I have a tv tuner card and I can record whatever that's showing on tv onto an .avi file. However, the file size really huge!! Just a few seconds of the recording is like 50MB. I would like to compress that file to something much much smaller. What program can I use to encode the huge avi file into a smaller file?
Is there also another way or program that can record the capture straight into the compressed version?
y not use NERO. i think that will do...
Use SUPER, http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html It's great for converting any kinds of video formats and audio formats including .mov, .wmv, iPod, PSP and a hell lot more
Just remember there is no magic bullet...the more you need to compress, the crappier/smaller/more jerky the picture will be.
Cucusoft is a good program to convert all file types from avi to dvd's to mpegs very simple easy to use format i recommend it to anyone who is trying to convert avi to mpeg or other formats
The Best and the FAstest is WINAVI converter... can convert all types of format.

Are there any programs that will capture input from a tv tuners or web cams and saves to a file which is compressed? I'd like this to happen simultaneously so I can record things from my tv tuner straight away without using too much hard disk space.
You can use WinAVI program
visit www.intervideo.com
they have a product there that you can use to capture movies directly from your tv tuner and i think it uses compression for less storage used.
im not sure of whats the name of the software...
