What would be the best graphics card for me?

Thanks! I have decided to get the nVidia GeForce 6600

I have a Dell Inspiron 3100 and need a PCI-X graphics card. But I hvae looked at the boxes for some and none make that much sense. They all have differnet names for things and none mention Transform & Lighting!

I was just wondering what card I should get if I want to be able to play all the latest games, like LOTR BfME II, Sims 2, Battlefield 2, etc.

Thanks! But where I am, I can only get the basic cards. Like NVIDIA GeForce 5700, etc. I can't get things like NVIDIA GeForce FX... Out here the market is garbage.

I can basically get the following:

NVIDIA GeForce <number>
ATi Radeon <number>

I don't want to order anything over the internet because the customs guys out here tend to smash things with hammers to find out what is inside. The GPO out here is rubbish as well. I don't want to take the risk.

I am posting this because the boxes are all flash out here (cheap anime drawings and pics form the Matrix) and no information about the card except it's name.

So a name would be useful.

DELL...is that a laptop? sorry, i ain't too much of a wizz in those things. Firs aff all chose a brand. Whan't to play games? Get nVidia. Whan't latest games?Get latest card. Check info on them though. there are different versions of the same card. The main thing you first have to know is how much do you plan to spend on a card.

The best for price/performance ratio is definently the 2nd option. It is a GREAT card, I love mine.

Check the following:

There are mainly two big manufactures: nVidia and ATI
Both name there models according to 2 things:
1- Generation (how old the card is)
2- Performance (the market target)

For ATI cards:
PCIe cards models are basically:
First generation: x300, x700, x800, x850
Second generation: x1300, x1600, x1800, x1900

The performances are:
300: for home/office simple use (movies, word, etc)
600/700: for games not full quality, full resolution. Best price/performance
800/900: power gamers.

For nVidia cards:
PCIe cards models are basically:
First generation: 6200, 6600, 6800
Second generation: 7200, 7600, 7800, 7900

The performances are:
200: for home/office simple use (movies, word, etc)
600: for games not full quality, full resolution. Best price/performance
800/900: power gamers.

I would recommend for casual, but good gaming experience a x1600 or a 7600, if there are on your price range.
