what's your main focus when making a website?
... My main focus when making a website would be accessibility. Then comes design. I think a horrible design can scare away visitors, and so will bad content. For me, SEO fits somewhere in between all those. And I do not care about coolness such as flash.
My focus would first have to start with Web standards please see the quote below for more information.
As you can see from the quote that using Web standards is the way forward in web design for keeping your code clean, fast loading, accessible and of course work in all current browsers.
The next focus would have to be the design to the website and the content. Having a great design layout will draw a lot more people to your website. Also keep your navigation simple and easy to use. Next the content keep all content information on the website new and original making your visiters come back for more.
So there just a couple of things to focus on and keep in mind when designing a great website.

Web standards The term web standards can mean different things to different people. For some, it is 'table-free sites', for others it is 'using valid code'. However, web standards are much broader than that. A site built to web standards should adhere to standards (HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, XSLT, DOM, MathML, SVG etc) and pursue best practices (valid code, accessible code, semantically correct code, user-friendly URLs etc). In other words, a site built to web standards should ideally be lean, clean, CSS-based, accessible, usable and search engine friendly. |

I always end up focusing too much on the design and layout to care about actual content. Nobody visits my sites; none of them have a purpose. After all though, I really don't care if people visit my sites. I just like playing with creation elements. CSS is fun to play around with. Lately I've been messing with forum software. I want to try out Drupal, but I just haven't had time lately.
Well I first give preference to usability and then try to optimize my website for search engines.........
Accessibility/design for sure. If your site is easily navigatable then your going to lose traffic. On the same not if your design is not catching your going to lose traffic. Without a good design your accessibility will be limited; with a good design accessibility can be easily managed. Coolness is rarely a factor unless it is asked for when im making the site lol.
Having good content and a nice design comes first for me as long as it is easy to access for what is the point in having a great site if no one looks at it
