Hello People,
I just had LASIK performed on both my eyes.Earlier,I couldn't see across a room very cleary but, now both my eyes are 6/6.
Isn't this wounderful?
Any of you have had this /is considering this?
My vision is becomming a bit blurry... I almost can't see clearly across the room either. How much did this cost? and tell me if you get any long term side effects/reprocussions

I never considered having it done because I can see better than 20/20 with my contacts, and I'm able to wear them nonstop for approximately 4-6 weeks before putting in a fresh pair.. I once calculated that it would take over 10 years for the cost of LASIK to pay for itself over what I pay for contacts
but I've been reading stories about how successful LASIK surgery is now.. within a week or two, patients are fully recovered.. how are you doing?
Hi kronso.23,
Hi JoeFriday,
Sorry I'm late with my replies. You see, I was on a weeks 'enforced' rest after LASIK - no reading, no computers, no TV. This is not mandatory - infact my doctor told me I could start reading and watching TV right from the next day - but I thought I would play safe.
I'm in India, so getting LASIK done might be cheaper here. I payed Rs. 23000 for both eyes, that comes to about US$ 500 aprox. We also have some good surgeons here.
Joe, I also used to wear contacts, and was pretty comfortable for about 2 years. I was satisfied - until they began to cause allergies. My eyes would be red by the end of the day. My doctor told me that there's a limit to the extend to which you can place a foreign body in your eye and get away with it. The limit might vary frm person to person, but eventually it will be reached. So I switched back to glasses. I chose the frames badly, hence I began to get skin allergies around my nose. I should say I was pushed into LASIK.
You needn't have much fear for the success - it is a very simple operation, and takes about 10 minutes for a skilled surgeon. If your power is low, you can see well right away - may be after an hour at the most. If your power is above -5 like me, it might take 24 hours (it did in my case, but not in another). I did not have any pain or discomfort after the surgery. My vision is just beautiful. I can make out letterings really far away, and I surprised myself and my surgeon by reading really fine print from 3 meters away. I could, of course, read the lighted board easily - I had difficulty in doing this with my glasses before.
You have to take some light medication before and after surgery - mainly vitamin C and antibiotic drops. One thing I noticed was your eyes get dry when you wake up in the morning - but they warned me of this, and I have been given artificial tears to use for three months. I'm also having trouble with my eyelashes dropping off, but they say that's due to the drops and will eventually stop. I have to avoid water sports for a month, and have to wear day/night glasses to avoid dust for two weeks.
I would advice anyone to have it - provided they are fit enough. You will have to pass though a screening before they accept you for surgery. Once you pass the screen, your chances are pretty good - infact, excellent. LASIK has been around for more than ten years now. I did some research on this on the net. I guess if you're healthy and have a good surgeon, it's not risky at all. There are many graphic illustrations of this technique on the net. The most scary part is the making of the flap - there is no pain, but I felt pretty stressed.
But If you are in US or UK, you probably have Lasers to do the flap making too.
Thanks guys. I would urge you to think about LASIK. It has been good for me - but you should definitely do some homework before you make a decision.
I'm a contact lens user, and i still don't whether to undergo LASIK in the future. My friend wants to undergo it in the future. So if it would be that good, I would do so.
But for people that have only slightly blurry vision, I recommend going for glasses or contacts.
