I've thought about a BMW and a Mercrdec

I think you must buy a BMW.
I think BMW too.
Because BMW has more security and comfort than mercedes.
I think mercedes is made of tin.
I have seven BMW and I'm very pleased.
Mercedes because, mercedes technical service are many but Bmw no undesrtand technical service my side.
It depends on what you are talking about:
- C55 vs M3 - I'd take an M3
- E55 vs M5 - I'd take an E55
- Any S-class over a 7 series - I'd take any s-class - even one w/out a seat warmer
- ML65 vs X5 - ML any day
- B-class vs 1 series - 1 series, any day (i don't think i should even compare them)
- SLK vs Z4 - SLK
- CLS vs 6 series - Who the feck would choose a CLS?
see what I mean? i think you have to talk more specifically. But generally I have a bias towards Merc. i think its because my aunt once has this really crappy beemer! The damn thing was brand new from the assembly-plant and still it gave her more grief than anything else. so since then I have always thought beemers were sub-standard!!! I used to drive a c-class and it never gave me any problems. I gave it all the problems!!!

If Money is not a real issue for you, the world is yours 
Here in Germany there are 3 top brands : BMW, Mercedes and Audi. You have to keep in mind, when you want to sell your car in a few years then Mercedes will sell best. In other word BMW and Audi loose a lot of value in the first 2 years.
In my opinion i would go for a Mercedes CLS...

if you have 100 000 + euros - buy mb cls
if you have less - buy older mb
if you have less then above - boy a bmw

Buy BMW, it's a great car. Center of gravity exactly middle of the so no turning problem...
and also BMW is technically better then Benz.
BMW for young people -
Benz for older people- it looks more classic..
Mercedes are generally HIGHLY overrated.. they only have a few models that are competitive with BMW.. but they do have a lock on the luxury/snob appeal.. so if your primary criterion is to be seen, or to cruise around with every luxury, then buy the Merc
whereas the standard BMW will blow away most Mercedes in performance and fun
but if you really do have as much money as you like to say, I'd look at a Bentley.. that's the best of both worlds
I think that BMW cars are better built. They use leading sdge tech and seem to be the real driving experience.Of you are going for looks go for the merc!

Definately Mercedes. Although quality soard a bit last years their definately back on track. Their latest models are much nicer than BMW.
No offence, but the new S-class sets a new standard in luxury sedans, on which 7 series from BMW yet lag.
And if I may choose, lets say, the E55 AMG 
BMW has their own unique look to it, looks, that other companies dont have. the car stands out. Mercedes are becoming cars that you see everyday, but if you happen to pass by a M3, M5, M6 or whatnot, you would look.
For a more formal approach, get the mercedes
But if you really want fun in your driving, get a bimmer!

Mercedes is for me personel a better car to watch and to drive:)

i agree with Outlaw Spirit, the Beemer is definitely the poor man's Merc.
Mercedes is at waaaaaay higher level in terms of class and luxury and brand name and comfort and style and respectability and ............
My uncle used to have a Mercedes S500, and then he owned a BMW 745. Since then, all the cars he's had are BMWs: a 645 and a X5. (Hope I could afford a quarter of any of those cars...)
He told me that BMWs are much better than Mercedes.
Neither get an Audi. That's just my opinion though.

Now we're all differing in personal opinion...
To get a better idea in comparing for example the BMW M5 and the MB E55 AMG Motortrend has an article on those two specifically.
Really to get the best and most unbiased advice in this matter, you must do research on the companies that compare them, the BBC does road tests in Top Gear and Fifth Gear, you can find stuff at Motortrend, and many other places as long as you just search for it.
Then once you've researched their technical data, look at which one you like the looks of better. Personally if I had to choose, I would go for a 2002 BMW M3 Hard Top Convertible just because that's what I like. I love the power and handling of the M3 it's not too much, it's not too little, and the Hard Top Convertible gives me the option to pick up girls easier...Personal preference...That's what these decisions are all about... get a nice luxury sport beamer
BMW is definetly an excellent car, but still Mercedes will always be Mercedes, with no doubts the best car.
BMW is more Sporty, Mercedes is more sports Luxury
