What was the most AMAZING thing you have ever done in life ?
And I don't mean:
Passing my driving licence
Kissing my dog
or saying NO to my girlfriend.

What I want are those really amazing things you have done.
The things that other Frihosters would say WAAAAUUWWW on.
If you know what I am saying.

Well I will start with my amazing accomplishment.
I was always a skinny type of guy in school. So whent I decided to join the Belgian Parachitist Regiment everyone went NOOO man don't do it.
The fact that I wasn't the Shwarzenegger type AND I was of foreign origin made the challenge bigger for me.
So when after four months I got my "dagger" (=commando) and another one month I got my "wing", the sky had no limits anymore for me.
I was the best, toughest and proved all my critics wrong.
That is when I found my selfbelieve back.

Last year one of my best friends and I, went out in the beginning of the spring back in my lake. It was frozen but we did not know that it was only about half an inch thick ice and could be broken. I ran across the entire lake, like a fruit cake and my friend was to scared to go halfway, so he went back while we went seperate ways, all of a sudden a hear a help help! Im drowning! scream and I run back and my best friend is stuck in the freezing lake. He couldnt get out because the ice was to slippery to grab on, and the water was deep, about 10 feet by the shallow area, and 35-90 feet in deep area. I ran for him and luckily I saved his life. This is one of the most AMAZING things I have ever done in my life, be a HERO.

Then some Crush Laughing with a girl was the most amazing thing that i have ever done in my Life.....

There were two things in particular in my life that I found as gigantic accomplishments, aside from "Sleep Deprivation Weeks 1, 2, and 3." The first one is actually represented in my Hall of Fame as a plastic Revolver. I helped one of my friends steal a vibrator and handcuffs for herself. It was just something pretty awsome in my eyes. Another thing made it so I wasn't afraid of anything. I don't know if it actually happened, because, I'll admit it, I was totally sh*tfaced, but it still has impact on me. I, apparently, jumped off of a 4 story parking lot and lived by rolling when I landed. After that, and I'm still not sure that it actually happened, I really wasn't afraid of anything anymore.

1. My absolute favourite subject is drama but my teacher said I'm not being confident in myself enough. I tried so hard to become confident so that I could succeed in my exam and I ended up getting 98%, top in the year. Smile

2. I survived this year.

3. I have never had a jab in my life and I am just fine.

4. I stopped this girl in my year who was really horrid to me, sent me and a friend hate mail and threatened to kill us commiting suicide.

5. I told my PE teacher where to stick it.

Well i would have to say getting 20 feet far off a jump on my quad. What i mean is i hit a crappy jump and it threw me 20 feet in the air (on the bike)

Also if you look at my avatart making it through that mud 3 times with out getting stuck on that type of quad is amazing.

Then when i was in elementry school in 2nd grade they wanted to hold me back (they didnt'). In 4th grade i was in some thing for reading support same with when i was in 5th. Then in sixth i was all fine in academics (placement of classes). I moved up to honors for math and science. Then in eigth grade i am all honors. Damn i want to wipe that in that ****** face who wanted to hold me back.

Oh and passing eight grade spanish with ms. braddock. That is one amazing thing to do. And just to show you how hard spanish was with her. I got a 54 on my final.

Nothing really breathtaking, for most but I really got a charge out of the following:
My first solo landing in an high crosswind
A flight on a B-17 (my dad's old ride in WWII)
Sliding from to tree to tree in Jamaica on a conopy tour

The above I recommend to all, the following I do not recommend:
Out-running a police car (I was young and stupid)
Hitchhiking across the US

I finally gone through another school year, I never thought it would go so Fast.

But what I find more amazing is I finally Launched my Business and Crowned myself as the President, CEO like 48 and somwhat hours ago.
(Making me one of the youngest Entrepreneurs at 16 Very Happy )

Now I'm working behind the scenes with my League of Evil Minions on my diabolical plan to overthrow the world government to start a new World Order where I am King. <SARC> Maybe next year.

I came across 5 NVA Regulars (Vietnam) that were fully armed, my partner was out of commission, so I drew my Jammin' Jenny (M16-a1), and true to it's name...it jammed. I was shot once but pulled my good old m1911-a1 .45 Colt autoloading pistol and my bayonet....bottom line, I was shot again, but I am here to tell the story....they are not. My partner and I were Medivaced out of the area...after the napalm strike. Ironically, my older brother was a member of the MIKE force to extract us....now that made me feel safe at the moment Smile

Not very pretty, but absolute fact...I got my life, and a (second) Purple Heart (this time with clusters), and my first Bronze Star.

There's a bit of a list of some more "amazing" things that I've done in my life so far (I'm only 17), but I guess I'll start. One thing that I'd like to mention and not put in my list is passing my driving test the first time around, as a lot of kids that I know had to redo it several times before passing.

1. I drove the farthest I ever done only the other week, around 400 miles (one way) from Chicago out to Columbus, OH to meet an online friend.
2. On the trip I took from #1, I got in my first car accident and survived. My dad was the man of the day and saved me by dragging the car home with me in the truck, and him not being pissed off at me.
3. Around the year 2002 I got together with a lot of friends in an online chatroom and made my own webgame, with the friends being staff members for the site, until sometime in 2004 when I sold it. I am presently making another gaming site and hope to make this new one better. Very Happy
4. Around the year 2004, after selling the website in #3, I started something different and got interested in computer hardware, and built my first custom computer. It's my fastest machine to date, but I don't really use it much. I really should soon. I use it for storage since 40GB is good for something. Razz (I bought that hard drive new only because it was the only thing I could afford at the time, but there's no real need to get anything bigger for that PC right now).
5. I saved up 8 weeks of my pay (I only get around $125.00 a week at my part-time job) and bought my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop around February 2006 for $750.00. It took that long since I had to spend money on gasoline for the car, and for my own sidelines for keeping me happy.
6. Since this was mentioned before, I never got drugged up, smoke, or drink. I have no need to, and I seen several people die from my work over several years from these things (one died of lung cancer from smoking and another burned out his liver from drinking too much)

This list is still to be concluded, since I'm still so young. I plan on doing these things definately later on in life :

1. Finding the perfect lady and getting tied down. Very Happy
2. If #1 happens, then I'll have children more than likely. (How thrilling it sounds to have them !!)
3. When things work out the way I want it to, my dad, my sister, and I are going to be joint partners in our own apartment building, where my sister lives in one, I live in another, and we rent out the rest. Whenever we want to get out, we can (it seems like) and move into our own house.
4. If my life goes out more according to my plan, I'm thrilled about thinking of starting my own business and making money off of that too.

- Mike.

I have accomplished many things. Along with these, I have accomplished several amazing accomplishments.

1. I saved my brother when he was 3 from a car speeding by. he walked into a busy street and i dove and sort of surronded him with my body preventing any serious injury to him. To my luck the car drivers were paying attention and skidded to a halt and saved my life.

2. i met alex ovechkin and even inspired him a lot. its kind of odd if your the one that inspires a pro athlete.

3. Made a website. To me itts an accomplishment ok.!!!!!!!

4. Hacked my friends "unhackable website". after this he took it down hahahah

Well I have to say my most amazing accomplishment was to catch a theft that stole my aunt's cel phone. He just took it from her hand and me and other 3 or 4 guys start running to catch him. But they got tired so I was the only one who got close; I grabbed his arm and he dropped the phone. I stopped cause I have to say, I got pretty tired too. But afterwards I heared that 2 guys catch him like 2 blocks from where I stopped and kick his arse :S
Cause this is a pretty small town that was my "make yourself popular" action. lol.

I took an insane decision to follow my childhood's dream of becoming a character animator, in a moment of my life where everything seemed to go well for me in a different direction. I was doing my master's in the US, I had all kinds of opportunities, but I put it all aside when I discovered the world of 3D computer graphics and animation. It's a decision that changed my life and continues to change it, for the better, and I'm happy I did it.

Hitchhiking across the US

Why not? I was thinking to do this for a long time. (with a friend for a little bit more safety).

Can you tell us about your experiences? (new thread if you like)

My most amazing thing? Jeez, I keep going over my life but nothing seems too amazing in retrospect, though I thought they were pretty cool at the time.

I survived being hit by a 65 mph SUV (and recovered in about a month from punctured lung and broken ribs, which they said would take 6 months at least.) I gained some weight during that month, but not too much, and I got rid of it by the following year.

I've been eating at least 99% vegan for the past 6 months.

I've lost 15 lbs /year for 4 years running.

I mooned (non-native-English-speakers: pulled my pants down and showed my ass to) my entire high school student body during a Halloween parade.

There was once a coupon offered for free 2 LT bottles of Sierra Mist and me and a friend went store to store one night picking up as many as they would let us take until we had 52.

I've read a lot. Probably too much. I don't know if that really counts, but hey, in 3rd or 4th grade I needed 5 sheets to fill out my summer reading list at the local library (nobody else had more than 2).

I pulled off a 5 (out of 5) on the English Compostion AP test even though I wasn't enrolled in the class for it, which was better than everyone else in my school (nobody tied) and tied with one other in my first high school.

I didn't care very much about my college applications so I sent in essays to two schools about masturbation.

I've broken into a lot of places I shouldn't have been (not to steal or anything), and been on the roofs of 30+ buildings. One time at my college I went up into the roof of the football stadium still being built, set off an alarm somewhere apparently, and 8 cop cars came to stop me from whatever they thought I was doing malicious, but I convinced them I wasn't and they let me go with a warning.

I've gotten more confident and I'm proud of how I handled myself in my previous two encounters with romance, though they didn't work out.

I've been exercising by playing an hour of DDR every day for the past month or so and I'm hopefully going to keep it up.

I've stayed in touch with 9 good friends for over 8 years, and with 2 of them for over 12. Considering I'm not yet 24, that seems pretty damn good, half my life.
hlavco
I sang karaoke at my school's all-night graduation party. (Billy Joel--Just The Way You Are Cool )

I was accepted to 100% of the colleges I applied to. (Okay, so I only applied to one college...)

I've been to the movies three times this year. (It's an accomplishment for me.)

So maybe I'm not that amazing...

most amazing accomplishment: definitely was learning to snowboard. my sister and i took 3 days of lessons in vermont a few years ago, and despite the anguishing muscle soreness and getting sick in time for christmas, i was hooked. it has definitely provided me with an opportunity to meet fascinating people and cure those winter doldrums. i look forward to every bit of snow! plus, a beer never tasted so good after a long day of carving the slopes.

I believe one of the greatest achievement is when I became a consistent topnotcher since grade scholl untill collge life.
Em_de_Tech
Im not much of an achiever... Im just really proud of climbing trees all my life and never fallen out of one. Once i was really high up on one and then i fell lost balance on the branch because i was helping a girl cross the branch. (She started to fall so i used my balance to reverse her falling causing me to take her fall.) So before i fell i thrust the girl back to the trumk of the tree where i knew that she wouldn't fall and i fell. But as i fell i kicked off of the branch sideways and latched onto a branch not too far away. (from there i got down without a sweat) All this and i had no time to think. Its like instinct or something...

We were playing the blindfold game and it was my turn to run after my brothers lightly blinfolded. As I was doing so, my elder brother ran towards an open dry soak-away pit and then made a sharp turn away from it. Unfortunately for me, I could not regain much balance as to make a quick turn away from the pit. Hence, I ended up inside the pit of about 24 feet. The amazing thing was not that I fell into the pit and came out alive, but the fact that I somersaulted about three times on the air before landing on my two feet, still blindfolded. Phew!

My greatest acheivement to Date? Most amazing thing?

Could it be getting my Eagle SCOUT. The Highest honor in Scouting. 3 days before i turned 18. In case you don't know after 18, you lose you right to get it.

Or how about graduating HS on my birthday?

Or maybe it was was posting a 5 minute mile, a 11:15 (2) mile and a 19:40 5K in the same day?

Or Winning a Bi-athlon with a good friend by him biking a 15K in record time and me running to 20 minute 5k's

Maybe it was getting married to the love of my life?

Could it be seeing the birth of my two sons? ( i get queasy around blood and needles)

This is a very hard question to answer. I count all of the above as ones i would pick.

But the one true answer, for me. Is watching, teaching, and experiencing my sons grow up.......Cause i never knew my father till it was too late....

I saved my best friend from drowning. The most amazing part is his size and weight compared to mine. I rested him on my chest and did the backstroke into shore. It was a pretty decent size man-made lake and we were in the middle when this happened. He had a bad cramp. Luckily, he didn't freak out too bad, otherwise he would have taken us both down. I completely collapsed on shore and threw up, my arms and legs burned and were totally exhausted.

Amazing to me.... I gave up drugs and alcohol over two years ago, after using them both pretty heavy for 15 years. I never thought life could be so good and fun without it.

I graduated High School with a Academic Award in Ceramics. The Graduation the biggest thing about it though because I have always struggled in school, and not only did I graduate but was accepted into ITT Tech.

I have now been in schooling at ITT Tech for a year and still going. Am on my way to reach an Associates degree in Multimedia Very Happy.

Also have finally discovered a group of friends can hang out with who not judgemental on my interests and unique qualities. I have found one particular friend in last five years who has come as close to me as my grandfather.

As for something survived. Maybe it was foolish... but got robbed not long ago by 2 guys with guns... I slammed the door on one of their arms before knew was carrying a gun and no shoots where fired. I also was the only one in family who they didn't get anything from. Smile

I was always in front of the computer. Always playing or watching things or reading in front of the computer. After some time I started studying in the computer and everyone said I was just playing.

Everyone said (everyone but my parents) that I was just losing my time.

A few months ago, I founded my very own internet company, I am earning money, and all of that is by staying in front of the computer. I showed everyone I wasn´t a loser, that I was inverting my time, not spending it...

By now, that´s my biggest goal in my life!

Of course, I just spelled "composition" wrong so that's a telling point to how much there is to those tests.

Although now that I think about it, maybe compost-ion is the more accurate term...

I just remembered another one: on either the English Composition or English Literature AP, there was a quote from Einstein's Dreams and I felt really special for having read it before they put it on the test. In fact I recommended it to a friend too and she called me up later that day or the next (mobile/cell phones hadn't taken off so much at that point) and asked me "what the ****** was that from??? I know you know!" It's a good book, too.

Oh, and here's another "wow" I've pulled: essentially everything I've written from 10th grade up until current day I have squirreled away somewhere. And it's a LOT. I kept an online journal every school day of my first year in college and I would write sometimes 5, 6 hours a day. Think about what that means if 16 of your hours are waking hours. Tthough I got a lot less sleep than 8 hours a day, some days I spent more time writing about my day than I spent on the actual day.

Every time I put up an away message, it is an original and new haiku.

I try to do six impossible... erm, amazing things before breakfast every day. Smile

The most amazing accomplishment for me that I can think of is drawing every detail of the most complicated clock that I saw on a magazine. Soon I will post it on my blog, which I will not link to right now.

I'd say my biggest accomplishment so far would be that i was Cinematographer on my first feature film at the start of this year. Its an indie slasher movie based in sydney.

It probably wont make it very far but the fact that i have done it once now shows me i can do it again.

The most amazing thing I have done is attempt to post a serious reply to this topic. I mean, can any topic be better for spam? I think it's pretty amazing that I spend my nearly all of my time on the web, and still have time to talk on Frihost.

Other than that, I did save someone's life once...or something.

The most amazing thing I've ever done is play football (American) which is a big feat for me because I am the exact opposite build for football. I am a tall and skinny person with little strength, but I have made it through 3 years of high school football and am about to start my fourth. I have worked my tail off trying to become the best that I can and I am very proud of my accomplishment, many people laugh when I tell them that I play football, but I just ignore it and tell them off on the field.

I'm 30 and I have nothing to regret. That’s my accomplishment.
I don’t have any addictions, unwanted children, undertaken responsibilities.
My biggest accomplishment is to have done for many years what I thought was right for me, even when it was against the tendencies of the world. In other words don’t letting the world extinguish the flame of my soul.

I know is not much, I don’t have a daughter, I haven’t save any ones life; but for me these things are everything.
d i have nothing to regret. Thats my acomplishment.

In August 2001 I became a Reiki Master, which had a huge impact on my life. There are some people who think that Reiki is a joke, but I have seen it in action, and it really works.

Since becoming a Reiki master I have experienced many new things in my life, including starting a new business, getting married and becoming a father, living in a foreign country, surviving an accident and starting another new business (the first was closed).

I still believe Reiki to be a powerful influence in my life, although I have not always used it daily. I also encourage Westerners who are interested to do it more in-depth, rather that doing it the "fast-track" way.

I'd have to say it would be getting into university with a rather shitty UAI (for those non-NSW people/non-Australian people out there, a UAI is your score that's used to determine if you get into Uni or not), when I thought I wouldn't. I still sit in my chair after all these years and wonder how I did it straight out of high school.

I suppose soon that will be taken over by me actually finishing off my degree, finding a girl, getting married, having kids, etc., etc.,

• I had this strange pain in my lower right gut area one night; it - of course - wouldn't go away. The next day it was more painful and I didn't go to school. That night I woke up screaming in pain and my mum rang the Dr in the morning, he was 'busy' and couldn't come out to my house so I had to get dressed and go to the surgery for him to check out what was wrong. I was in so much pain that it took me half an hour to get put my clothes on and then I had to crawl to the car.
When we got there I had to wait with the other patients before seeing my Dr, he told me to lie down on the bed things they have there and he prodded the area that I said was hurting. He quickly concluded that I had appendicitis and advised that I go to the hospital immediately for an emergency operation.
At the hospital I had to wait for a few hours and then I was taken into the operating theatre just before 9:00 PM. I was put to sleep under a general anaesthetic.
The next thing I remember everything was blurry and I could see my mum next to me, you'll never guess what I said... "What's the time?". It was 10:54PM if I remember rightly. Then I was asleep again.
The next day I had this icky stuff that had seeped from my scar during the night cleaned up and was right as rain, the pain had gone and I was OK. They told me what had happened.

My appendix had been left for so long (3 days) that it was bursting and I had almost died. But the operation had been done just in time, a few hours later and I could have been dead.

They say that appendicitis is as painful as childbirth, so girls: I know what it's like for you, O so terribly painful!!! Wink

• Second to that I stopped my friend from jumping in front of a car Shocked

• I've finally overcome my fear of falling (not fear of heights, that's not what bothers me)... or at least partly Razz

• I'm learning flips and my confidence is like a sieve so it's pretty hard for me to go and do a flip if I haven’t for a while, and I can only practice once a week Confused

I think that sums up most of the most amazing things that I have done in my life, I can't remember any more right now Razz

I doubt that this will seem to exciting to most. Much less AMAZING.

So I will give you two things.

The second most amazing thing I have done was swim in the ocean.

It really gave me a sense of how small I was. And how big the world around me is, even with modern things like the internet and planes. The world hasn't gotten smaller. It just seems that way.

The number one thing is having kids. Both of them.

It also let helped me understand how small I was. But in a different aspect. Because their future is so much bigger.

Unless you can realisticaly afford to do that - and it soulds like you can't - then giving to charity is a bad idea.

The extreme side of this is: if you gave away everything you own to charity then you'd have nothing, soon you would be the one needing benefit from charaties and the goverenment... Shocked

EDIT: I'm not saying that what you did is wrong (in fact the money that you gave is worth more than the millions wealthy people give who can afford it easily and it doesn't really matter to them), just that you've got to be careful.

Not so amazing, but definitely a rush... at a train station in Aichi-ken on the line running through Akaike (damnit, I've forgotten the line names) a boy about 11 or 12 somehow got onto the train tracks. I didn't see whether he fell, or jumped, or what, but people started yelling and panicking. The "90 seconds away" chime went off just as this happened. The platforms are elevated about four or five feet from the tracks, so the kid couldn't just climb back up again.

An older man jumped down, picked him up, and another college age boy and I grabbed the kid by the arms and pulled him back up onto the platform, then we helped pull the older man up. The man put his feet on the scaffold-type structure underneath the edge of the platform to climb back up, and the first time we tried to pull him, his shoe slipped off and he had to step back down again... We made it with a good 50 seconds to spare, but you could see the lights from the train all the way down the subway tunnel the whole time.

The older man who actually jumped down there and picked the kid up was the real hero, but I still feel honored to have been able to lend a hand.

I was driving to a convention and discovered a homeless hit and run victim by first noticing the blood on the grass... He had a compound fracture on his leg.

I used his outside shirt to tourniquet the leg with the open wound and called the authorities, of which firemen came, but they had enough equipment with them to keep the man alive until the paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital for surgery.

Pretty cool, I'm pretty proud of how I reacted to this situation.

Well, having a very premature baby and staying strong, confident, faithful and optimistic through 4 months of waiting for him to be released from hospital while the doctors thought he wouldn't live is something I think of as truly amazing. I found strength I didn't know I'd find.
And now, being his mom and watching him grow, change and become more and more of the person God made him to be is more amazing yet. I've found strength, love and patience I certainly didn't think I'd find.

Otherwise, I'm about the least amazing person I know. My most amazing accomplishments have involved whitewater kayaking, performing a song on stage that included the word "rutabega" (long story, it was a lifelong goal...), and learning to do a whole lot of things that seemed a lot harder before I applied myself and gave them a try.

Good topic. Thankyou.

Indeed, it seems that his sister owned both of em Wink

Just to back this up, here are some facts:

Quote:
The confusion about 'fruit' and 'vegetable' arises because of the differences in usage between scientists and cooks. Scientifically speaking, a tomato is definitely a fruit. True fruits are developed from the ovary in the base of the flower, and contain the seeds of the plant (though cultivated forms may be seedless). Blueberries, raspberries, and oranges are true fruits, and so are many kinds of nut. Some plants have a soft part which supports the seeds and is also called a 'fruit', though it is not developed from the ovary: the strawberry is an example. As far as cooking is concerned, some things which are strictly fruits may be called 'vegetables' because they are used in savoury rather than sweet cooking. The tomato, though technically a fruit, is often used as a vegetable, and a bean pod is also technically a fruit. The term 'vegetable' is more generally used of other edible parts of plants, such as cabbage leaves, celery stalks, and potato tubers, which are not strictly the fruit of the plant from which they come. Occasionally the term 'fruit' may be used to refer to a part of a plant which is not a fruit, but which is used in sweet cooking: rhubarb, for example. So a tomato is the fruit of the tomato plant, but can be used as a vegetable in cooking.

But i don't really want to be off topic and since i didn't post to this one yet, here i go. Smile

I was the best, toughest and proved all my critics wrong.

I've got a few:

1. I learned to play the flute like a mini-pro (I am working on the Entainer but...GEEZ, it is like on fast forward or something it's SO fast! But, as my flute teacher always says, "When you can't play something as fast as the real thing, play it at the tempo where you can play it, get used to it, then go a little bit faster until you've mastered the original speed) in like 8 months!
2. I learned a REALL hard thing to accomplish and to grasp in algebra in 1 day (a linear equation with 2 variables) when I was in 5th grade.
3. I got the most STUBBORN horse to turn while I was riding it! I mean literally, it was an accomplishment in itself! The instructors had a hard time helping me!! lol

Not sure how that works, but nonetheless, it was fun. Smile Met quite a few good and well-known bands when I worked at a music store in Providence.

The most amazing thing I've ever done in my life was beat chronic depression and stopped myself from committing suicide at 15. I did both without medication and with sheer force of will. Well... the depression isn't actually beaten, but at least I'm optimistic! Sort of...

But yeah, I'm turning 18 this year, and I never thought I'd get this far. I've also prevented 12 people from committing suicide since I was 9 years old.

When I was 9 years old, I fooled every person I talked to online into thinking I was 16.

yeah, my life isnt all that stupendous, lol.

The other day I pulled this 4year old out of a rip down at Salt Creek. The little dude was going down for sure, but luckly I made it out in time for the save and dragged the poor kid in. I'd say passing my NLS class. It is this really hard life guarding class in Canada that ususally takes place over the course of a few months, but I did it in a week. 9 hours a day for 6 days. On the last day, the pool's hot water was broken and on that day we had to be in the water all day. The chlorine really did a number on me.

That's, ummm... not amazing. I've known people do that for months, some guy I know almost did it for a whole year, which is pretty good. But I still think that it's just better to do the PE lessons, I mean... they're not that bad, are they? I'm not that sporty - even though I'm basically built for sport - and I do PE without a fuss... Well I havent done anything earth shaking that I can think of.

But, I did learn English in less than 2 years, (I went from zilch to honors english in 2 years, and I was the only one in the class who did so, most took 3 years to get out to regular english class) o.o I know it isn't awe-striking, but it was harder than it sounds and I'm proud of what I've accomplished. Not to mention my honors english teacher from back then loved my works =D

Oh wait, How about, I lost 50 pounds in less than 4 months? (most of it was bloat I accumulated that year since I was too lazy but who cares) =) It's true I did.

Awsome acheivements! I myself too was in the theatre scene when I was in college. There I went from virtual obscurity to having a starring role in the play "The Diviners" It was my only starring role I ever had. I earned myself a nod to represent my college in the ACTF (American College Theatrical Festival) due to my performance. When this all happened to me I knew down deep inside that an accomplishment like this would never be replicated so I ran with it. Somehow I pushed all my nerves aside and performed for 3,000+ on closing night when everyone realized it was a "Hit" (for what college theatrical hits can be). For almost every other show I was merely a part of the stage crew, so everyone was suprised how a set designer could go in and nail a starring role.

It proved a valuable lesson for me, anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I wished I could find some information about this show performed at my college but it was in 1995 and information is slim.

So far, the only amazing things I've read about here are all either luck, or really small things. Every woman gives birth; many people find jesus; everybody wants to give their girlfriend/boyfriend praise by saying they're the most amazing thing to happen to them. Only some of the posts were exceptions. How about some stuff that's really amazing, stuff that you are sure nobody has done or will be able to do. I'm talking about things that really test the physical and mental will. There should be items here that are amazing for humanity, not just your particular situation.

Please, if you have nothing to add, find another topic to post in.

These people are posting some of the best things they've accomplished in their lives and that is exactly what the topic is for. Not just earth shattering feats. Not just world records. It would be a very sparse topic if that's all we wanted.

You are welcome to post what ever you think is your most amazing accomplishment.

And it doesn't have to be earth shattering.

i built a refridgeration cooling system for my computer.
i bought a 1HP compressor that works with mineral oil and r134a refridgerant, and some copper tubing brazed together in a loop with a condensor where it coiled up real tight, and an evaporator. but i didnt stop there. i didn the IMPOSSIBLE in phase change...i made a DUAL EVAP system. systems that cost $2000 dont even have dual evap they cost more! and i built this for $500 (what can i say im asian (jk, im not being racist it is a joke)) and it allowed me to overclock my 3700+ to 3.4GHz which is really awesome and similar to a 4.6GHz Pentium 4!!!
it also allowed me to voltmod my 7600gt and flash it to 16 pipes, 750/1945, and 256-bit memory bus
this made my system worth $2000 more with $500!!!!! i am planning on selling phase change units to pay for med school

I think this is a very interesting topic. Because this is quite subjective with respect to time. A person can think that something he accomplished is amazing, but can have disastrous circumstances then on.

For me I thought being accepted for PhD in the USA was a great accomplishment, but as of today I regret applying for abroad study so much that I cannot describe.

So an amazing accomplishment, I think, can be judged at least 5 years on. Smile Yeah time will tell, as great Kane of the Nods said..

bah, where do i start...

my greatest SO FAR is getting 4.16 (all A's) gpa during my junior year. yeah sure, i know that isn't too impressive but to me it is. here's why:

I was a trouble maker since middle school. I hung out with skaters and got horrible grades since. I got a 1.5 gpa in 9th grade because I guess I wasn't smart enough and I wanted to play diablo 2 and counter-strike lol.

Then tragedy struck me hard.

I was so discouraged, I sunk even lower but managed to stay in school with a 2.5 gpa in 10th grade. The councelor thought a was an idiot, so she only allowed me 1 AP class.

During summer, I worked and boxed. At my gym, I talked to great individuals that overcame great adversity to serve the community. For example, the head coach's father was the great heavyweight champ, Archie Moore. The coach used to do lots of drugs and such, until one day he found purpose and god. I was so much inspired by people like him, so I wanted to make a change also.

Junior year was something; I had to study everything I missed since freshmen year. I worked, and finally achieved my goal; straight-A's for the whole year.

I've gotten so much confidence from that experience. Today I feel like I can still do much, much more than that. I believe that anyone can achieve great things if their heart and desire is strong.

This summer I've worked 30 hours a week to help my dad, trained for the PAL boxing tournament in CA, done as much community service hours as possible, attended summer school, taught myself web design, studied everyday for the ACT (I'm not smart, so I have to really work to get a 33 composite) and spent time with family (family is priority NO MATTER WHAT). I'm going to take 5 AP classes and 1 art major. I'm about to ask my councelor if I can take nightschool for the classes I messed up in the past. My final goal is to get into UCLA, NYU, Stanford, and Cornell.

Pour your sweat, blood, tears, and heart into your dreams.

Unfortunately its not that great, i did a little karate before i started Taekwon-do and there were like zero condition trainings and not really enough kumite going on, mostly concentrated on techniques which is great but it will not train your reflexes.

However it sure may depend on many factors maybe i just went to wrong dojo, but i am glad i left and started Taekwon-do maybe if i continued i would go bored and quit after couple of years. This way i spent years doing Taekwon-do already got my black belt recently and i am in no way thinking about quitting.

If you are bored by a sport then find another that you will like, don't continue just couse someone is pushing you. Sad

About the most amazing thing that I ever done in my life if shift from my previous course BSEE to BSComp-E. Because of that, I manage to get a grade of 1.5 in 3 subjects. That is the highest grade a student can get here in the Philippines.

Back in 1991, I was accepted into law school. I had taken the LSAT three years earlier, and had to apply or re-take the test. I waited until the last possible moment to apply, I think the deadlines were in March. I remember having to Fed Ex my application to Rutgers, the school that I eventually ended up attending.

Once I was admitted, I asked if I could defer my admission for a year. Looking back now, I realize that my subconscious was probably trying to tell me something. I didn't really want to go to law school.

So why did I go through all the motions? I think it had something to do with proving that yes, indeed, I was bright. It definitely had something to do with the fact that two of the women I dated became lawyers. They both dumped me, and in a weird way I felt I was getting back at them. I didn't need them, I could be a lawyer too.

There I was in 1992, managing the mortgage production for 30 branch offices, and commuting an hour each way to night law school. It was hectic, I was insane. I did make some very nice friends. We formed a study group and that was probably the most fun I had my entire two years at Rutgers. I quickly discovered that I wasn't really as smart as I thought I was. For the first time, I really had to do my homework- and most of the time, that wasn't enough. I just didn't get it. It was a very humbling experience.

It all fell apart my fourth semester. I kept missing class (sometimes on purpose, sometimes compliments of health). My back went out on me, and I missed school AND work. I couldn't keep up. Naturally, I decided to book a spa vacation in California. It was March, and I had an internet friend in Silicon Valley, so I went for a week up to the Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa, and then drove down to meet Sarag. I saw the green hills in the valley, and fell in love. Not with Sarah, but definitely with California.

I went back to New Jersey, applied to attend Santa Clara University School of Law, got accepted and quit my job. I rented my house out to a friend, and drove out to California with my mother and my two dogs in my car. I changed my entire life on a whim.

Now I definitely needed to concentrate on Law. I thought that if I was just a student, I would be a much better student. Unfortunately, that did not prove to be the case. I was still average, with an occasional "B" thrown in the mix to make me feel a little better. I suffered through until I graduated in 1997. Five years of my studying something I knew I didn't like.

So now, when asked about my greatest accomplishment, I automatically answer "law school". Most people do agree it's a terrific accomplishment. Ironically, it was also probably the stupidest thing I could have done. It proved I wasn't really that bright after all, since I never went on to actually practice law. But boy oh boy, do I have the student loans to prove I went. So no, indeed, I was not really that smart after all.

Ha Laughing I wouldn't call it amazing. I would call it obsessed. Honestly, you're more obsessed than one of my friends; and I thought he was very obsessed Shocked.

But completing Halo 2 on legendary is an achievement, I can't do all of it. What I find anoying is that I can hardly do any of the first level, but I can do the final level (except I never actually killed the boss because I was battling him for half an hour then I had to go and I just had to turn it off, after that I couldn't be bothered to go for another half an hour to get back to where I was Neutral).

It was a ton of work. There were many groups with their rope chains, ice picks, ice gear, etc. and we hiked up in normal boots.

While working for a Company that sells interactive Microscopes, I got into a panel discusssion with Carl Sagan and several scientists from Cornell. We were discussing what should be on display at the local New York Childrens Science center in Ithaca, that was purchasing one of the units. Since I had a Biology background, I told him, ' so what you would really like is a display to represent 'ontogeny recapitulating phylogeny'?", Carl lit up and exclaimed yes that would do it!, even though I have the science background, I am a Christian, so I replied, " well we just cant do that" He asked why not? and my reply was "because it doesnt exist" There was a short scilence, then a burst of snickers from this distinguished table of scientists, for they all got my joke right away.

That was the best played out apologetics I have ever been invold in. But I still to this day have an enormous amount of respect for Dr Sagan, as well as his wife Anne Druan. I just hope they got it in time.

We have a camp on the French River and we were all swimming and she refused to wear a life jacket, but we figured just a couple of minutes... we'll be fine, but we were wrong, just as everyone was out of the water, she had a seizure... I was alread off the boat house, but my mom can't swim... I ran from the top of the hill to the doc, jumped in and dove all the way to the bottom, which she had already reached. I pulled her up and did mouth to mouth, and she was okay... Thanks God... still though she refuses to wear a life jacket, so we just don't let her swim anymore...

The most amazing thing I've done in this world is flying. I'm not talking about in a plane. We're talking jumping out of a plane with a couple of chute's and an attitude. It's just so damn cool, free falling for what seems like forever. Playing in the sky, dancing with the clouds. Then you pop your chute and float for another forever, then the ground gets closer, real fast and you have to tap the earth but not too hard. This type of activity usually results in a smile that last for days.

Hi all,

I'm from China. The greatest achievement I've ever made in my life is to come and study in the U.S. It was a very tough decision because I had gone through 3 years at one of the most famous universities in my country. Coming to the U.S. means that I have to forgo all of those 3 years and start everything over. I did not know if it was a right decision that time. However, everything is coming out right for me now. I graduated and worked and enjoyed my life here. Sometimes you need to take a risk to achive something amazing.

I think it is an interesting thing to know this kind of stuff from other people. In my case, I think it is possibly the situation I master while traveling to totally new areas by car, while I'm abroad.
THis is especially difficult for me when I have to hurry, when I'm totally not enough prepared for the trip. This happens often, but until today I mastered every situation. And I'm quite proud for that.

Ive spent more hours on the computer than I have sleeping/walking/standing/eating/and talking. No seriously, it all started when I figured out what that big white button did on my computer in 1992, when I was 4 years old... and thats the greatest thing Ive ever done since I can give the geek squad a run for thier money when Im still in High school.
Ray Gravin
hmm? this is proving difficult. Its so hard to find something "amazing" when sifting through the list of mundane experiences I've had in my short time here. For the most part the experiences in my life have evolved me coming close to amazing situations and dodging out.

Ok I think I have one?

When I was teenager I had a friend who lived out in the country near the town I was living in. I used to walk to this guys house on the weekends and run amuck with him. We would sneak out at night break into his grandpas metal shop to steal beer and shine. He's grandpa wasn't supposed to drink because of medical reasons so hid his alcohol in the shop. Typical teenage mayhem I guess.

One time I was staying over at his house and we got incredibly paranoid about getting caught. He said he's step dad was going to break my arms. Of course I was scared. The next morning before anyone woke up I decided to leave. The only problem was that it was winter time in Ohio and there was a serious storm going on through the night and into the next morning. I also was by no means dressed for the weather. All I had was a pair of jeans a button up shirt and a raggedy old army coat. I left anyway though.

It was cold as hell and the snow was up to my thighs. It was dry at-least and the snow drifts were nice to look at. I walked down the railroad tracks to stay of the main roads. I cant remember exactly how far of a walk it was but I think it was probably about an hour walk give or take. I was pretty fit from walking to and fro though. I walked allot as a teenager. I had massive calves lol!

I made it home fine. No sniffles or anything. Fear is very empowering I guess. Its one of my fonder childhood memories : )

You are exactly right; if you are giving charity and are not happy about, then there is no point of giving that charity. It's doesn't count then, only to you it does. So If you are asked to give say I don't have anything to give. Don't put your self in a misery. Sad

Hi brothers, this is my first post ever since i joined. Anyway, sharing about something amazing in your life is up to your on discretion. Some felt the achievement in cracking passwords, some saving lives while others passing their driving license.

In my life, i spent 2 decades of my life ths girl chasing patiently. Ever since in we knew each other in play school, i've been wanting to tell her i like her but it was after being friends for 2 decades and maintaining a "MR NICE GUY" impression, i told her i liked her ever since.

It was my courage built up over the freaking 20+ years that i asked her to be my gf. NOW, we are happily married with 2 children and i felt that breaking my my timid and shy self is the most amazing thing i did in my life.

Hi,

Well, the most awsome thing I`ve made in my life in some way was for sure mthe first day of my secondary high school. You know, my school was close to some other, private one. And heh... I went to that private one. It was the beginning of the year, so some Mrs came to me and said, that I`m not on the list. I thought, as always they have a nice mess, so said to her to sign me up, because I was sure, that I`m signed up. So she did it. Next I saw, that I have only 7 person, or so in my class... Well, but that didn`t made to think that something must`ve been wrong. Maybe, because I was a little nervous, excited... nvm anyway. So I went then to the all school meeting. Mrs Headmaster sth. said, that they closed the second store, because our school now is very small. Private, intimate school. And you know I had a timetable, etc. and without curiosity of my mother I`d be going there... and then after the month we`ll all have a nice surprise: the biil :]

Apart from that last time I was trying to join up some game development team (I was working in some before, even was a leader of one crpg project) Aazero (www.aazero.com). And to my astonishment I passed all tests very good for a scenarist. And well... so good, that now I`m the leader of all the Scenarist in this project.

Ohhh and couple days ago I have a nice adventure too. Well, maybe not too nice. We (me and some guy) arrived in Denmark for our studies here in Herning (www.hibat.dk). We arranged everything by e-mail, but when we arrived our hostel was closed! It was about 4 in the morning or so. We didn`t know the city... well, we knew, that we have to wait until they open up the building of our school and probebly for some responsible people. But... then everything was good. It went out, that out hostel is closed till 15th of August and none informed us, so now we`re staying temporary in some nice apartment :]

the most great accomplishment i have made is learning islam and quran.
it changed my life so i feel i'm really a human who worships Allah (god)
if you ask me why you call this an accomplishment? i say:
because in this world today it's hard to believe in god with all the things around us, it wasn't like this in the past.
the strange thing is that i found god power in everything around me and in myself too.
for example: everyone knows Air, right?? soo why Air? becuase it's everywhere? so what!! everywhere so that you don't search for it, brilliant isn't it? we need it so god make it easy reachable for us and made it just!!! for us. he could make us live without air and he is capable of this and this is another key and this another power , god made us needy for air to show us that we are creatures for a creator that he had choosen how would we live we didn't choose how we live and what our needs are god choose for us and made it good and easy for us. soo it's obvios that there is a god who created us.

well the most amazing things i ever done were:

1. learning php, cfx (Cold Fusion), html, C++, Unix5, building computers from scratch (hardware) in 10 minutes when i was 10 years...

---dang, when i look at all those books about C++, cant belive i actually learned it.. makes me sick in some point.

2. learned how to hack,
--- when i was living in The Netherlands, 1 year ago.. i got in problems for hacking a school server, got thrown out of school and a 1300 euro ticket

3. learning 3D modding and making really big progress ( best prog= Blender (just my thought))

4. made really good mods for 2 fav games.. Diablo 2 LoD and GTA SA..
alot of my friends are playing these mods nearly every day now .. feels nice to make something and that so many people u know, actually support it.

5. making plans on building up a server... dont know alot about that.. so just a thought... anyone interested in helping(just explaning what are the main aspects and how to setup the OS on a server..) ????

This summer I was fortunate enought to travel all over Europe, including: London, England - Vienna, Austria - Interlaken, Switzerland - Munich and Kaiserslautern, Germany - Venice, Florence, Rome and San Remo, Italy - Madrid, Barcelona, and San Sabastian, Spain - and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Getting to see and be in all those places was definatly amazing. I got to go canyoning, white water rafting and paragliding in Switzerland, see a world cup soccer game (US vs. Italy) in Kaiserslautern, Germany, surf in San Sabastian, Spain, see "Blue Man Group" in London, Mauthausen (thats a death camp) in Austria, and all kinds of historical places and things all over Europe. It was definatly a great experiance, and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about maybe traveling overseas. I went with a school group for 6 weeks then traveled on my own for an extra week. Being with a school group I got to see all kinds of museums and historical buildings and castles and such, but I also got to experiance the night life, dance in some clubs and hang out in some pubs, and try the amazing German/Austrian beer. I matured like I never would have thought I could, and it was definatly the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me and that I was able to experiance.

The most amazing thing I've ever accomplished is staying alive. I had horrible knee pain due to a horrible knee problem. I went through horrible physical therapy which produced more horrible pain. Sorry to use the same adjective there, but I wanted to get my point across: HORRIBLE.

During this time, I was very severely depressed, compounded by bipolar disorder. Though medicated, life was truly h-e-double-hockey-sticks, and I didn't want to live anymore. Instead of giving up, I sought mental therapy and learned to cope, albeit miserably.

Finally the doc sent me to a surgeon, and so I was scheduled for surgery. I had simple, same-day surgery and was expected to walk in two days. Instead, I developped DVTs... blood clots in my leg. What fun. I went to the hospital, went through the ER, and was admitted because it was so late at night by then (they kept me in the ER for 5 hours). Otherwise, I could've gone home with Lovenox shots to the belly.

Instead, I stayed overnight and was given a private room. The next day, a blood test came back positive for the Prothrombin Gene Variant, which meant trouble. I was sent for an echo-cardiogram, which looks at your lungs, and multiple blood clots were found there. These are known as Pulmonary Embolisms / Emboli. A friend of mine, only 32, just died of PE last fall.

All told, I was in the hospital for 13 days due to all the clotting, rapidly-changing INR (blood-thinning factor), excruciating pain (I screamed for God to kill me repeatedly one night when a particular nurse wouldn't help me), and infection. When I left the hospital, I had lost 15 pounds and couldn't sit up for more than 20 minutes. Talk about being weak and miserable.....

After three months of gruelling physical therapy/torture and of course more mental therapy to deal with the horror of it all, I'm finally able to get back to a mostly normal life, despite the Coumadin. This drug thins the blood, so getting cut or bruised is potentially very dangerous and possibly fatal for me, depending on the severity.

This is, therefore, the most amazing thing I ever did... I survived all of this. I know other people have it worse, so I'm not putting myself up on a pedestal. I just know that I was a miserable, cynical, horrible person before all this, and now I truly do see how fragile we are and therefore what a privilege and a pleasure it is to be alive. The most amazing thing I ever did was learn to appreciate life.
Vlien
Not really an accomplishment I think, though probably amazing: I survived 'convulsions' when I was 4 years old (nearly killed me).
Then, a serious accomplishment, survived years and years of bullying (until I turned 16). And last but not least, after years of thinking that guys didn't like me Rolling Eyes met my lovely BF two months ago!

Usually I get pretty good grades, but a while ago I just completely failed one class. My dad always makes me show him my grades, but I guess I failed that class so badly it didn't even show up on my official grade sheet. I had another copy of my grades though that had the F, but naturally I decided to show the more appealing grade sheet to my dad.

As he was congradulating me on my good grades though, my conscience kicked in and I looked him straight in the eye and told him I actually failed a class.

Now getting an F is not really an accomplishment, but I felt proud that I actually told the truth when I could've so easily gotten away with a lie.

Nothing really amazing if you consider that the amazing term only compares to breathtaking experiences.

So ill reply in terms of most interesting things i've encountered so far in my life.

I took part in a website project born in 1998, http://www.game-fr.com, one of the very first videogame portals in Europe.

Even though, the website is no more updated as it should be, it still stays one of my most memorable experiences i've ever had on the Internet.

I could pinpoint other interesting things ive done yet like beeing a radio host in Brussels/Belgium here : http://www.radiopanik.org and speaking out your mind to probably a million individuals once a month, lol Laughing

I guess the most thrilling challenges are still to come, thus :

- Going parachuting;
- Saying 'hi' to the great white shark in a cage (of course).

I would like to add that waking up everyday for various purposes isnt that easy and remains somehow an amazing thing to do Very Happy

it changed my life so i feel i'm really a human who worships Allah (god)
if you ask me why you call this an accomplishment? i say:
because in this world today it's hard to believe in god with all the things around us, it wasn't like this in the past.
the strange thing is that i found god power in everything around me and in myself too.
for example: everyone knows Air, right?? soo why Air? becuase it's everywhere? so what!! everywhere so that you don't search for it, brilliant isn't it? we need it so god make it easy reachable for us and made it just!!! for us. he could make us live without air and he is capable of this and this is another key and this another power , god made us needy for air to show us that we are creatures for a creator that he had choosen how would we live we didn't choose how we live and what our needs are god choose for us and made it good and easy for us. soo it's obvios that there is a god who created us

Well ever since I was a child, I was into photography. So one day I looked on the web n found a contest which was offering a 10,000 dollar reward. I was so siked so I started taking a ton of pictures. I finally knew it was time so i picked my best photo. I mailed it to them n about a week later I got a mail saying I was accepted. I got to go to las vegas for 3 days talking with famous photographers from national geographic n other famous magazines. It was like a dream come true. We all presented our photos and talked about the moment. Then the time came for the winner to be announced. My heart was beating crazily until they called my name. I went on stage and collected my prize. The end.

but I guess my work with children that left their homes and parents is important, and i know I had amazing moments there. when children smile, when they feel needed and loved, when they feel they can do anything and nothing can stop them. But there are meny ugly moments too and a great deal of hard labour. still... it's pretty friking amazing.

The most amaizing thing I've ever done?

Well, in grade 7, our project of the year was to go out and volunteer our hours. I signed up to help in the hospital.

I REALLY wanted to work in the Children's Ward (where all of my other friends were working), but my mom ended up signing me onto the Elderly Care Unit. I was really upset.

On the first day, the volunteer co-ordinator introduced me to the lady I was to take care of. Her name was Netty. Turns out that Netty was really cool and I loved visiting her!

However, 2 weeks later, Netty passed away. I was devistated! I didn't want to volunteer that day. My mother ended up convincing me to go, though.

That day, I wandered around and helped random elderly. As I was heading to the punch out clock, a little voice said "hello". I looked around and saw a little old lady laying in her bed.

"Who are you?", she asked me.

"I'm a volunteer. My name is Jessie", I responded. After talking with her for a while, I learned that her name was Madeline, and I agreed to visit her every Tuesday.

We eventually became good friends, and I even bought her a little seahorse beanie baby! I'd paint her nails, talk to her, take her for walks, play board games...etc.

However, the last day of school was approaching, and it was time for me to end my volunteer work for that year. It was my last visit to Madeline, and I explained to her that I'd be back next year.

I left her for a little while to go visit some of the other elderly people. When I got back, I realized she was sobbing. I asked her what was wrong!

"I-I know this must sound silly, but are you my guardian angel?", Madeline asked.

I was in shock and completely awe-struck! Then...I thought for a while and realised how important my visits must have been to her.

"I might be," I said. I was choking back tears. Before I left, I held her hand and hugged her.

It was only a few months later that I met her younger sister and I was told that Madeline was suffering from Alzheimer's.

That is my greatest achievement. Being a "guardian angel" to a woman who needed me. =)

My biggest accomplishment was when I earned my black belt. I was so happy. After 4 years of karate, around 5 months of Black Belt Training, an extremely hard and long combo, and not crying when my sister slamed me to the ground when we were preforming defensive moves on testing night and I couldn't breath. I was so happy that I made it and the fact I didn't cry on my big day. That we really big of me when I was 11. I wish I could do it again.

Another one was recently. I was helping out at a enrichment camp for volunteer hours. I was with some elementary kids. At the end of the camp the kids had to write what they liked about camp and one kid said the volunteers. And on that day a young girl gave me a card that said thank you for helping. I felt so happy I made a difference in the kid's experience there. I can't wait to help next year!

The most amazing and superb thing that I have ever done is love a girl. I was one guy who was living a wayward life until I saw her. She is the most beautiful thing on earth.

I think one of my biggest accomplishments was successfully starting my own business. Business is a very tough thing to get into due and I've dreamed of doing it all my life. There is so much education and things to consider that one can get lost in planning. After over 7 years of ambition and waiting, I finally took the leap and its great. I love business so much and having a business that I can actually experiment with is exciting.

I like to learn things from people more than books. I love sharing stuff about my business and getting constructive criticism on how I can improve my business. I think people are often misunderstood and its fascinating to get into the psychology of the customer and market. I think it teaches you so much about people and I find that more satisfying than anything because I feel like every customer I gain, I gain a new friend.

One) It's football
Two) Scoring seven goals means nothing because you could be against a rubbish team
Three) It's football

4. Around the year 2004, after selling the website in #3, I started something different and got interested in computer hardware, and built my first custom computer. It's my fastest machine to date, but I don't really use it much. I really should soon. I use it for storage since 40GB is good for something. :P (I bought that hard drive new only because it was the only thing I could afford at the time, but there's no real need to get anything bigger for that PC right now).

- Mike.

Ok, before I comment on your comment: Please stop posting quotes of your post at the bottom of your posts. You don't get extra points for frih$ for them, it's just spam. Also, you double posted earlier in this thread, but you'd edited the 2nd post, not just quoted yourself. To get more points / frih$ i presume? Don't do it, it's spam.

Now, it's not very nice of you to put other people's achievements down. Giving birth, an event that you mentioned is - in fact - amazing. No one can deny it, women spend 9 months of their life carrying another living being with them and that is a very very important and memorable time for them. You say "many people find Jesus," right... so you point is? Your greatest accomplishment is, as you say: learning Islam and Qur’an. But isn't that pretty much the same as finding Jesus, or maybe not so amazing - I'm not sure. Also, bare in mind that some people posting here are young, which means that they've had less time to do so many amazing things.

If you want something that tests the physical and mental will: I can ignore pain, take control of my mind and stop things happening, even think without thought in words (which is a very interesting experience). I can quell head aches just by thinking about them, stop my feet aching if I've been walking for a long while, stop myself sneezing just by thinking about them. I can make myself more confident, or make myself fall asleep; maybe wake myself up if I'm falling asleep. I can look at things and make them change shape, move or disappear; and I can make things appear just using my mind (of course they don't really do this, but it looks like it to me, the changes happen in my mind).
These things seem to fulfil your criteria... but I didn't post them before. Everyone can do the things I've described and more, much more; it's just a question of whether you will be patient enough to do it.

PS. I just got my English and English Literature GCSE results back, A for English and A* for English Literature. I did all the coursework and exams in 1 year, instead of the usual 2, and Now I've started AS level English 1 year early as a result.

Hi, I used to have a huge fear of heights. I was afraid to stand on the balcony and look out windows in high buildings. Then I decided this was silly and I needed to get rid of this fear. Some time after this event, I when to Ocean City Maryland with my family. During a walk on the boardwalk, I noticed a park with all sorts of rides. The biggest and scariest attraction was this huge sling shot that shot you like 100 meters in the air, spun you, and carried you back to earth. The forces felt at the top of the ride (the stopping) was about 5 times the force of gravity. The ride was so scary looking that even my dad, who isn't afraid of most things, did not want to go. I focused myself and went on the ride. After that event, I am no longer afraid of heights.

One of the most amazing things I've done is gone into a sauna from 2 AM until nearly 7 AM in Finland after my cousins wedding. The temperature was 85 degrees Celcius or about 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Not surprisingly the next day I felt terrible, but indeed it was quite amazing. Another amazing thing was this summer during World Cup 2006, I was in Germany. I got to experience a soccer game form within a beer tent. The town set up the beertent in the middle of town and the game was projected onto the wall of the tent. About 500 Germans packed it and everyone was insane about the game and the celebrations were endless after a 2-0 win over Sweden. Partying continued many hours after the game.

85 degrees Celcius, poiko123! I don't know much about saunas, but that's seriously hot; are they actually that hot? Because I would start to literally melt if I was made to sit in 85 degree temperature, I think all my organs would just expand and explode. Wow that's hot, I find 40 degrees Celcius too hot for me Shocked

The most amazing thing I have ever done.

Well, I can't say that's amazing, but that's the funniest and stupid thing I have ever done. That's when I was writing my exam. I got my SLIP (COPYING) in my paper and asked the teacher to verify my paper, but the SLIP is inside it!!!. My hands shivering and everything is worse.

And My idea? I droped the SLIP when the teacher came, but she saw that one and took it away from me and silently dropped away!

She's so good yaar. Otherwise, that will be my end of the studies!!!

This is what I think is my greatest achievement.

We had a workshop near the place where we lived. One day as the men were welding using acetalyne gas cutters, one of the workers accidentally forgot to put of his torch and went away. He placed the torch too near to the gas cylinder. The cylinder got punctured and caught fire. There were many cylinders nearby and all of them started exploding. The entire place became a mess.

Flames started rising. The air was foul with smoke. I was roaming nearby and I saw people running. One man was running towards me and the suddenly one of the exploding cylinders hit him with such force that he got knocked out. He was very near to the roof and it was about to collapse. I saw that the roof was about to collapse.

I caught hold of this mans collar and pulled him to safety. After sometime the roof collapsed and I was happy I saved him. Had I not pulled him away he could have become chicken roast!

He had 13 stitches to heal the cut that the cylinder had caused. I got minor burns. He was wearing plastic clothing that had caught fire. As I pulled him away my hands got little burns. Of course superficial. I didn't notice them in the excitement but later a saw that my hands were burnt.

That year the company sponsored me a prize for Rs 10000

I think this is my greatest achievement. Making people believe cooked up stories. Hope you caught it.

I don't quite understand this line. Are you using pathetic falacy to portray your feelings through the weather, or was the weather just a bit bad?
Now, as you never said that she said something, I'm assuming that she didn't. Although I might be wrong. In this case: maybe she though that it wasn't right to go out then, because it looked like it was about to rain. Or perhaps she was just shocked that you had asked her out and couldn't think of something to say (this could of been because she loved you but previously believed you didn't love her). Or did she actually hate you from that moment on?
I'm sure you can't say that it's option 3 out of those, can you? Anyway, were you not still friends afterwards? If not, (and if it was here that didn't want to be friends) then she probably wasn't the girl for you anyway.

My best had just friend just failed his yearly exam and i didnt want him to move down the year. So I had one day to hack our school network from home and change his grades. What i learnt was terrible. The school records IP's of those entering its remote documents.

Where students can access their accounts via home. My IP was recorded and emailed to the admin. I only reliased this when my ISP's virus protector ntl:Netguard showed my IP had been copied. It was too late either my friend had to face his doom, or i get into serious trouble. I took the chance when the teacher was outside the class-room and when into her computer.

I reached the Excel fle containing our grades, and changed my friends, there was a strong motivation to improve mine aswell, but my friends hurried me. I was so scared if i got caught. However God was on my side. From now on i told my friend, " God has given you a chance take it and study hard".

It will pay of when you get a good job.

A true story. The morale is study hard and you will be rewarded. Thats what im going to do this year.... Just focus on studies.

My story...
Early in June 2005 the strangest things happend.
We had a class trip at a lake/water. We had fun the whole day, and when the night came me and my mate was going up to the mountains(clock is 22:00). We walked on the mountain in around 3hours before we headed back to the camp. The teacher stands outside our tent and asked where we had been, we sad:
-We have been.. On a trip on the mountain..
And the teachers just told us to go to bed.
Well, 30minutes later I waked 7people in 3tents over a period of 1hour. I wasnt sleepy at that time, but I would sure be!
We was awake the whole night, and when we was heading back to the school we have to cycle down a long and dangeriouse mountain-road before we get to the real good road.
And down the last hill(I was sleepy) I was gonna pull over to the real good road when I drove down at the road, and in a tree...

The moral is: Dont cycle when you have been awake in over 24 hour!

I think the most amazing thing I have done is completed my senior year in high school. I live in a "richy bitchy" neighborhood, where everyone's dad is a white collar worker, and everyone's mom is a housewife. It's kind of like a real Suburbia. Anyway, I got pregnant, a huge "no-no," and battled through my last year of high school. All but one of my friends stopped talking to me, and I'd say 90% of my family members all wrote me letters about how stupid I am and how I will never finish high school or be anyone in life. I went to school every day, went to all my classes, had my beautiful baby boy, and walked across that stage and received my diploma. Not only did I prove everybody wrong, but I am one of the few people on my dad's side of the family who actually has received my high school diploma.

Back when i was in HighSchool i used to walk along the main back road which was a very long strip of road around 5 blocks worth.
Some Bulles in a car picked me up by my jacket and dragged me along the strip and let me go half way. When i got up i realised why.
they were trying to avoid a 16 wheeler who was skidding to avoid hiting their car, it ended up skidding and blocking the whole road around 70 miles per hour.
i was so beat up from being draged that i didnt have the energy to get up so i just sat down.
There was a gap between the hook-up of the cargo and the cargo wheels and most of it was jammed with the car that dragged me.
I survived cause i sat in the exact possition the remaining gap came through, around 30 inches or so of space so they told me afterwards.
The Bullies in the car died instantly in the accident. one of the poles (those extendable poles sealanders have when they arent being carried) jammed right through the drivers seat.

I dont Know if it was luck Fater or Concidence.. all i have ever thought about that moment was one word

...Karma..

I've done this, and she was HOT! Note to all of you... stockpile those condoms! Have them everywhere!

Now, as far as the most amazing thing I've done, or so I feel as my (current) best personal accomplishment. I went back to school.

Big friggin deal eh? Well, I guess I've had a simple life... anyway, I had been out of highschool for about 6 years, and had forgotten anything I ever learned. I was actually quite frightened of University. I think culturally, the subject gets played up quite a bit as being nearly impossible to succeed in.

Couple that with the fact that I was going in business, which requires some tricky math, and I couldn't even add 2 fractions anymore (I'm talking 1/2 plus 3/4 was scaring me) let alone converting 27/60 into a percentage.

Well, I just started my sixth semester yesterday, and I've beem kicking ass all the way through. I have been well above the class average all the way through. The decision to go back, and actually following through has changed my life forever, and I suggest that if any of you are considering it, then do it!

Just make yourself a list of tasks leading to the next milestone and start focusing on one at a time, and before you know it, you'll have a degree and be set for life!

I wanna try astro projection some time too. (For those that don't know: astro projection is where you kind of leave your body and travel around outside it. Last year, I've done my kinda amazing accomplishment while I was slidin' down from a peek.

There is a very stony rough "path" with noting to hold but two ropes tied to the trees beside the "path". And it had just rained the last night, the surface was very slippery.

I finally reached the peek, it's very difficult to reach there. In the beginning, we have 7 people together, but after we reached the peek, only 3 guys stood there, the other 4 went back on their halfway.

I stood there for a while, and was goin' to run down the path. Suddenly, my feet slipped off a stone and I was slidin' down the path. I was scared, and held the rope tightly, but I was still slidin'. When I was about to slide out of the path, I grabbed a tree's trunk, and cautiously got back to the path. When I got back to the foot of the peek, I was like shaking. It was like I will slip to the deep valley if I hadn't grabbed the trunk.

I've always had a terrible fear of heights, and of public speaking. When I was a young adult, I gathered a group of about ten friends together to form a private skydiving class. We all made our first jumps, and though I was still terrified, I continued to jump until I had made drops of up to 30 seconds. I finally got over the worst of the fear and then I broke my leg on a bad landing. I couldn't jump again for quite some time, and finally decided to not continue due to the risks, but have always since been able to conquer that ever-present fear of heights.

I was forced into challenging my fear of public speaking when in college. Several of my classes required presentations, which were quite difficult for me. Later, when acquiring an MBA, I had to give many, many presentations, and found that I actually have a decent presentation, if I speak without notes. I still have the fear, but as long as I am speaking of something I have knowledge on, I can give a pretty decent presentation.

K well xbox's were released with faulty powercords a while back. My xbox started smelling like burnt plastic and would shut off on its own, then you could see whispsmoldering & stuff, then before long it would smoke & spark from where the power cord went into it and I had to have the power cord taped down at juuust the right spot for it to work at all & not burn my house down Embarassed. NOT GOOD!

So when it finally wouldnt work at all anymore, I looked it up and found out I could repair it by soldering this spot on the powersupply's circuitboard inside the box. I've only soldered something once in my life & that was in grade 9. So not knowing wtf I was doing in the least, I completely took apart my xbox to get the power supply free, and since I didnt have a soldering iron, using nothing more than a torch-lighter and a butterknife & a bit of solder borrowed off a friend, with a witness at my side for the entire 3 hour ordeal (I was being really careful, my xbox is my baby) I totally fixed it all by myself and it worked!! I didnt even think I'd pull it off myself! My friend (the witness) couldnt believe his eyes! it was truly a moment of glory...

Married life require commitment and sacrifice. Sometime it cause you your life. But by giving up your life in order to bring another life into this world, it's a greatest ever achievement for anyone. Period.

I haven't lived yet, so I wouldn't know! I'm only 16..

- I'm trying out for Australian Idol next year in Brisbane so I could be going to Sydney if I get into the top 100!
- I'm going to New Zealand to Sing in July next year!
- I'm going to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert next year... IN SYDNEY!

Well I've never been out of my home state Queensland, Australia so I'm excited to do it 2 (or maybe 3) times next year!

The most amazing I have ever done might be picking up mushroom in a cemetary, or climbing down a wall without doing anytime before. Also at the beginning of my University time a had to go over a river by a rope, of course I landed in water. To get warm I drunk plenty of alcohol, and throwing frisbies on all my fellow students.

Hey, I'm very sceptic of your first weird experience, but I'm a sceptic believer of psychic stuff, and mediums etc etc. Please could you explain both these events as fully as you can I'm honestly really interested. I wanna try astro projection some time too. (For those that don't know: astro projection is where you kind of leave your body and travel around outside it. I'm not sure what leaves your body as I don't fully believe in a soul, however it might be your soul that does - I think it's also known as astral projection. See here for details)

Ninjakannon,

I didn't try an astro projection. It was a kind of almost death experience. I lost too much blood at an emergency surgery and had a shock (my blood pressure got zero). Then I was floating on the room and I saw the medical team trying to save me, shouting one another. They put me upside down to prevent brain damages. I was felting a deep and strange peace. Then I could see nothing again.

Later I woke up alone in a bed with a nurse. My doctor told me I was born again. And every day I thank God for this extra time He granted me.

But I tell you: I really don't want to pass this again, and I would never try an astro projection before or after all. Think about it.

About the aliens, It's another matter I can tell you another day

I can't think of the most amazing thing, but I can remimber one crazy series of events. Started out on friday, went to classes, came home and jammed with a band that I was playing in. Then I heard that there were some of my friends from back home staying at this camp near by, so my friends and I decided that we were going pull a prank on them. So we drove over there and toilet pappered all of their cars at like 4 o'clock in the morning. We sneaked into the camp and everything. Then I got home around 6 and had to be up at 10 to go jam with another band. After this I had to get ready for a semi-formal that was that night. So I left for dinner around 5 and then danced all night till and didn't get home till like 3 or 4 in the morning. Went to sleep had to be up at 8 for church. And then after this much sleeping occured.

I don't know if this is amazing or not to you but I'm surprised I'm alive to tell you!

Last year I was cycling home from school down an old railway track that has been converted into a cycle path. One part of the track crosses a river. When I got to this part my feet must've slipped off the pedals or something. Anyway my bike swerved and I tumbled about 30 feet down the embankment, just before I got to the bridge. I tumbled and tumbled, being hit by my bike all the while. I stopped at the bottom, just missing the river! I lay there for a minute, scared to look down or move in case I had really hurt myself. When I stood up I suddenly realised I wasn't hurt one little bit! Not even a scratch or a bruise AND my bike was okay! I felt lucky to be alive, let alone not hurt!

Well, lets see... this is some kind of brainstorming...

I once hitch-hiked through Iceland, short on money and thus nourturing myself from blueberries and such... camping wildly, and sleeping in caves and under bushes in regions were camping was prohibited... very beautiful country, and somehow I came to get to know it in a much more intense way by that.

I climbed a mountain higher than 5000 meters, in Georgia.

I ran the marathon.

I got lost in the mountains, and climbed a 50 meter wall as it was the only chance to save my life.

Those things sound so much bigger than they are.

I'd have to say that the most amazing accomplishment of mine would have to be the time I went deep sea diving. On my way down, I saw a dog under the water. He had a broken leg and was drowning! Sorry, but if that's the most amazing thing you've ever done you can't have done much at all in your life.
You say that eating magic mushrooms was the most amazing thing you've ever done... but eating the magic mushrooms is as amazing as eating a potato, or a carrot or a piece of chicken. They are all classed as EATING. Therefore you're saying that the most amazing thing that you've ever done is eat. Which isn't amazing.
I assume that you actually mean that the effect the magic mushrooms had on you was amazing; am I right? Even if I'm right I can tell you that it's not an accomplishment. Don't eat them next Wednesday because they're not the best things for you.

http://www.homehealth-uk.com/medical/magicmushrooms.htm wrote:
What are magic mushrooms?

Magic mushrooms are a type of mushroom, a number of which grow wild in the U.K. The main type of magic mushroom is the Liberty Cap mushroom. Magic mushrooms are also known as; mushies, happies, sillies and 'shrooms.

What do magic mushrooms look like?

Magic mushrooms look like brown dried up mushrooms.

How are magic mushrooms taken?

Magic mushrooms are usually eaten raw, dried or cooked in food. They can also be brewed and made into a tea-type drink.

What are the immediate effects of magic mushrooms?

Magic mushrooms make the user have a ‘trip’ a bit like taking L.S.D. but milder and shorter. People taking magic mushrooms often laugh a lot and feel very relaxed. A trip usually lasts about 4 hours.
Users may experience a bad stomach-ache, sickness and/or diarrhoea. Worse still you may eat the wrong type of mushroom, many mushrooms which look like magic ones, are very poisonous. Eating a poisonous mushroom can cause serious illness and even fatal poisoning.

A bad trip may also happen, especially if the user is already feeling anxious or depressed. A bad trip can be very frightening and once the trip has started there is no stopping it.

What are the long-term effects of magic mushrooms?

If taken regularly magic mushrooms can cause and complicate mental health problems.

What is the legal status of magic mushrooms?

It isn’t an offence to possess raw magic mushrooms but it is an offence to possess any preparation of them e.g. when they are dried or stewed. Once prepared magic mushrooms are a class A drug.

So yeah... have a good time giving yourself mental health problems. Or you could take my advice and not take ANY, EVER AGAIN.

Passionate aren't you! Do you know it has been clinically proven that breathing air will give you cancer?

I'd have to say if somebody is so inclined to eat the 'shrooms mental health isn't their only problem, but then again I'm not totally against the whole drug taking thing. The reason I say that is there are 'safer' drugs than magic mushrooms, but I know people who have tried them once or twice and they say it was good but they aren't going to be abusers of it ie. eat them regularly so I really don't think trying them a couple of times is that bad.

My 2 cents.

Yeah, I bet breathing in air will give you cancer... just stop and think for a few seconds about what's drifting around as well as the air. Vehicle exhaust fumes, smoke from cigarettes, factory pollution etc.

Anyway, about these magic mushrooms. Yes, there are 'safer' drugs than 'shrooms, but that doesn't make it any safer to eat them. Also remember this: even if most people have to eat one magic mushroom every [let's say] a day for [let's say] a year, to start getting any problems. But what happens if it's in your genes? Some people are much more susceptible to getting things and you never know how easily or how much you're gonna be affected when you take a drug.

I'm just trying to get across my point: drugs are bad for you*

* Drugs are bad for you when taken if not needed or taken excessively. Drugs can, in fact, be very good for you and cure illnesses / save lives. It's just that people only get those types of drugs at the doctors, at a hospital or if they want to take an overdose and kill themselves. The drugs that people take on the streets are almost never good for you.

The most amazing thing in my life that I first think of was back in highschool, and it's something that is more personal to me. I had been in the school's marching band. Our school was notorious for coming in second for ten years running in the district competition. We had figured by this point that the school that won ten years in a row must have had an in with the judges.

At the beginning of my senior year, we were determined to finally win in the district competition. The prior year we had petitioned one of the judges as having a bias against the other schools. We hired a professional set designer. We practiced our tushes off.

We finally won that year. As a result of our win, we were invited to the President's inaugural event, three national parades, and four guest performances in various events from the surrounding states.

I believe that the school has continued to win every year since I graduated. It's almost funny to me now to hear the school kids complaining about it that my old school has won so many times in the last ten years that they almost believe that our school has an in with the judges.

Turnabout is a funny thing in this case.

The one of the most amazing things I have ever done was to smuggle money into a country that was amidst civil war and give it to refugees who were starving to death. To do that, I had to walk through jungle, mined paths and well-bombed pathways, as well as evade bandit soldiers and rival militia – any of whom could have killed me and left me for the flies. Once I found the refugee camp, I had to find the people to whom the money was to be given. I could barely speak their language, but somehow, I got in and got out without anything bad happening to me and I accomplished my mission.
There must be someone up above looking after me.

I am a simple teacher who felt heartbroken when I heard the stories of my students’ family members suffering and close to death. So I volunteered to be a courier and take their money to their family members.

true that we don't know the mass of the entire universe. but the mass of the observable universe has been estimated at 2.4 x 10 to the 52 kilograms. this value multiplied by 299,792,458 squared yields the entire energy contained within the observable universe, in kg x m squared per second squared, otherwise known as joules. i simply reason that all that energy is what was transferred by "god" (assuming god exists) into the universe at the moment of the big bang. the product of mc squared thus provides us with the total energy of god. although we can't qualify "god", einstein has allowed us to quantify him. realizing this, i think, will prove to be the greatest accomplishment of my life. i thank albert for e=mc squared.

Ok I've changed my outlook!!!
The most amazing thing I've done now happens every other tuesday!
I am now a part time computer teacher and teach up through Middle school, at a Christian School, every other tuesday I teach 8 (thats right cout them EIGHT) classes of preschoolers!
WOW unbelievable! They dont know much yet of course, in fact at the first class most had never touched a mouse before. I' am really taken that now they are starting to be able to make sense of menues a bit, certainly the icon driven kind.
thee first couple of sessions have just been on a drawing package, Kid Pix, and they are getting it, VERY short attention spans, but they stay with it.
Its just awesome to think how far there computer skills will go ! I didnt do what they were doing until I was in college. Just think about it!

I completely changed my life in a couple of years ago. I went to college and passed a leaving cert and a national cert, 3 years after leaving school. What I like is languages, travels and electronics, so I multiplied my life by 3 Shocked

After one year of good experience in France I moved to Dublin with my car as only friend, I had no job and nowhere to sleep, that's how I spent the first night in my car. Then I got employed in the biggest American computer company one year ago for 6 months, time to learn English... and Spanish so there are a lot of them in Dublin.

Then I got a permanent full time job for another American giant making microprocessors and other ships, actually the biggest at the moment (yeah, some recent bad announcements but that didn't concern Ireland Confused I still have my job ).

The last crazy thing I started 2 weeks ago is to go back to college (again) to study a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering in English... in part-time and still working full-time. Hard to find time to improve my Spanish but it's only when we keep busy we do lots of things...

It's not only one thing but a succesion of decisions that now allow me to travel (my third life) around Ireland and in Spain so far. I also learnt how to make basic websites through Internet and now I try to keep in touch with my friends from different countries with amazing pictures.

My favourite saying is: nothing is impossible when you Love & Learn!!!

Hmmm, what I remember...

I changed my whole personality. When I was in the Middle School I was sooo selfish, agressive, possessive but strong snotnose, and then in age 14-15 I changed into sad, scarred, weak but delicate with romantic mind kid. In over 17 I started to be stronger, even with problems in school I wanted to be huge and kill all those math*** fuc**** who were laughing from me- mostly teachers Smile. Now I'm 19, and one year ago I moved from Poland- where I was born, to England. After one year in stupid jobs like warehouses or factories, I started College relevant with music which is my passion and that what I want to do in my life. And my own personality is an amount of 2 previous, different personalities, with the best parts from them: strenght, like unknown, thoughtful, romantic, altruistic.

I'm 19 now but I look like 15 Very Happy

Last time I was at Gary Numans concert in London. There was a girl, well girl, with who I started to dance on the last song. Other guys, especially one guy, tried to flirt with her, but he did it with soo normal for a man style, he just put a hand on her ass and that kind of things. But I did it in different way, I took her hands and I was moving her in the slow music rhythm (A Pray For The Unbourn song Wink ). Actually she didn't know, during the song, that it "me". So after that song, she looked at me with surprise on her face. And, we went together to the underground station, we were talking, and she told me that she's 34 years old and she has a husband and she is a teacher...on the gig it was quite dark, and I couldn't see her face Very Happy She looked older then me, ofcourse, but she was pretty.
cool

I think that's it...no:

Once I said, when I was 16, I said to very nice woman in school, she was in the "cloakroom", she was taking jackets in the winter, and I said to her "Please take my jacket faster, then I will give you a rose on the valentines day" she said "Yea right" but she took it. So on the Valentines Day, I gave her a rose Very Happy She was schocked probably...

I think that's it, what do you think?

Rock climbing in the Rockies. What a rush for me, someone who was afraid of hights at the time to be climbing Pikes Peak near colorado Springs. Where while sitting on a cliff looking out over the land, and look down at the top of a tree that stood over 300 feet tall. When you look up at one of these monsters is one thing, but to look down on one knowing your next step is along way down. I think you get my point. What was odd was when I ran around, it was much harder to get my breath back, because the air was actually noticably thinner. Smile

Easily, becoming the father of two children. Watching them grow has been incredible. Granted, my first is only 1 1/2 years old, and my youngest is a bit over two months old now. I find as they grow, I'm growing too. You see the world differently when you see that the world we're in will become the world your children will inherit. It makes the tragic much more tragic, and inaction irresponsible. My greatest accomplishment will be helping make this world a better place for my children to grow up in.

This may not be THE most amazing thing I've done, but it gave me a start.

After my third year in college, I was at a crossroads with my schooling and needed a real adventure. The whole Jack Kerouac idea of traveling always appealed to me, so I decided to hit the road. I didn't have much money, so I thought I'd travel through New England with just a backpack and the willingness to get jobs along the way.

You know what they say about the best-laid plans.

That April, I got myself a backpack and took a bus to Albany to stay with a friend for a few days. Her dad helped me decide what I should take and what I shouldn't, and then she dropped me off near Bennington VT so I could start walking the Appalachian Trail. Mind you, I was a young woman on my own with absolutely no experience backpacking.

I started up the very steep trail and walked a few hours before I pitched my tent on a logging road. That night I had a dream that I was sitting in my parents' living room. I was very upset because my tent was in Vermont and I wasn't. When I woke up, I was relieved to find myself in the tent.

The following day I walked and walked. I guess I started the trip north a bit early, because I hit snow in the mountains and began to lose the trail. Not only that, but I was falling in up to my thighs in the snow with the 50-pound backpack not helping. But I made my way until close to sunset. It wasn't at a shelter, and all I had was the water I packed in. I found myself a log in a bog and put my sleeping bag on that. I was afraid that I'd freeze through the night, so I put on lots of clothes and got into the bag. The stars were out and the wind was blowing through the pines and I was literally baking in my bag. That was when I decided enough with the idea of a 3-month trip, I'm heading back tomorrow.

Luckily, in the morning the snow was crustier so I managed to stay on top of it. I made it to a shelter that night, ate most of the rest of my food, and had a little fire. The next day I walked out from where I started.

The weird thing is that not once in my 3 days on the trail did I see one other human, but when I walked out to the parking lot, I met a man who said he'd been hiking on the trail. He seemed nice enough, and he gave me a ride to Bennington, bought me breakfast, gave me some pointers on lightweight packing, and took me to the bus station. My savior!

Since then, I've taken other big trips, including hitchhiking across the States one summer with my friend. But the first one tested my mettle more than any since.

Btw, even the teacher ran after me o.o, really, i'd never believe i could run that fast, even jumping several stairs degrees, in the and they caught me =(, gladly they were kinda
nice xD.

What i did? well, i went to the bathroom, when i was returning, i heard a teacher talking about how he suffered in his life, was a touching moment (sounds familiar doesnt it? Razz), but then, i guy opens the door and shouts at him, commands him to do his job instead of talking, that guys was me of course, the rest u already know =]

well, last year i had to drive a 11 ton truck from Orlando to Miami. The load was an simulation platform designed for military training (it costed $3Milion+).

The thing about that is, well, that I don't have a truck drive license ...and not just a single car license neither.

Shut down the WTO in Seattle. While the WTO went on to try and hold meetings for years after Seattle, it was great to have Madaline Albright locked in her hotel room for five days because she was afraid of the people on the street. Governments should fear their people, people should not fear their governments.

av1595 wrote:

If a country fears its people, then there is something wrong indeed with the state of that country. A government would need reasons to fear its people; now can any reason that promotes this type of fear be a good reason? The people of a country will become threats to their government when they start to disobey it, they will only disobey on a level where they government must fear them if they strongly disagree with what their government is doing. Thus, the government which fears its people is not a good government.

In my opinion the best way to control / have power over a person, organisation or group of people is to make them fear you, your group of people or your organisation. I am not saying, however, that this is a good thing - simply that it is the best way to achieve this control.
Now, as the best way to achieve control is to induce fear, is it therefore alright to use fear to control? I would say that in some cases it is. For example I believe that in schools students should be made to obey teachers by using the fear of pain. In other words, students should be punished with pain of some kind or another; I am not saying that this is moral, but I am saying that it would be the best way to control the students and thus the best way to create an environment in which to learn.
However, this is not true of all situations. If a government induces fear of itself in its people then the state of the country cannot be good and welcome. The general feeling and morale of the people would not be a pleasant one and thus soon the people would loose faith in their government and soon take action against their government. Therefore a government should be cautious about using fear to control, for this and many other reasons into which I will not probe.

I conclude that a country in which the government fears its people or vice versa is not a country in a good state, or a country that you would want to visit (for please purposes (for example a holiday)) or live in yourself.

The most amazing thing I've ever done would have to be the time I went bungie jumping. I was really scared because I thought the rope might break. I know that was stupid to think but I saw it happen on a video once. Anyhow, when I jumped it was the coolest thing ever! My stomach went up and I felt like I was going to fall to my death. Let's see....

I've stabbed myself in the leg with a pencil (not a mechanical one) through my pants at a perfect right angle and have it just hanging there...

I think those are my best accomplishments.

GET OUT AND DO SOMETHING! Seriously, sitting in front of the computer all day is really bad for you. If you’re still growing then it will weaken your bones, making them more likely to break in later life - especially when you're very old. You'll obviously be really unhealthy, have low stamina and die earlier (well, at least you won't break so many bones).

Just go for a jog, if you get tired start to walk, then jog again. And do something like press ups and sit ups before you go to bed - even if you can only do one or two. You'll improve slowly. Trust me, it's really worth it.

Taking a flying lesson.

Just one yes, but I felt so good, up in the air. Seeing the entire island from above. Texel in The Netherlands for those that want to know.
My instructor was a guy my Age, so two guys of 20 in a plane. Clear skies and the best thing was I got to see Dutch F-16s fighters, the real deal, making low passes and rocketing back into the clouds after another low pass on the training grounds. We spend another extra 30mins circling around the top of the island just to watch those F-16s fly and do their thing FROM THE AIR.

And yes, I want to sign up for the Dutch Royal Airforce. 8)

The most amazing thing I've ever done is to come out of my mother. Hahahahaha!

Seriously though, I think the most amazing thing I've ever done is to resolve the conflict between doing what I love and getting decent pay. The answer was so simple, I couldn't believe it! Now I'm doing both: I have a job that I fairly enjoy and that gives me a little more than enough for me to get by while giving me lots of free time to do what I really love.

When people ask me what I do, I still say I'm a writer, because that is what I do. Where I get my money is just my brotberuf--breadjob--as Kafka would put it. It gives resources so that I can eat. But writing is really what I do. Smile

I'm pregnant by almost 3 months now and I have to say I think that is the most amazing thing I've done in my life so far. I may young, but I am now more motivated than I've ever been to go to work and school and make my life a good one because I'm not only doing it for myself anymore, I'm doing it for another living being and wanting to give that being everything in life has made me realize that I really need to get my life moving along and back on track. It's made me realize that I need now more than ever to accomplish the goals I'd set for myself upon graduating High school so I'd have to say that getting pregnant is the most amazing thing I've ever done. It made me realize that I could be and do so much more and plus, there's a living being growing in me ^_^ That itself is amazing Smile

4. If my life goes out more according to my plan, I'm thrilled about thinking of starting my own business and making money off of that too.
bluegreen25
The most amazing thing I did was take a trip around europe on trains with some friends for a month and a half and hardly had no money. It was great fun going from place to place and roughing it' walking all day in the boiling sun (summer at the time), swimming lots on the beaches, and just having a good laugh while seeing the sights.

You will be surprised how good it can feel to rough it for so long and get out of the routine of sitting around watching TV and playing on the computer. Even if we had to sleep on trains or search for places to sleep Razz. We went to practically all the main capitals around eruope and many towns as well. Sure it could get really gruelling walking around all day every day but it was worth it. I got lost in Buccarest (Capital of Romania) for a day and a half (forgot the name of the place I was staying haha) but I look back at it has a expierinece I wil never forget Smile ).

I even met a very nice girl while on the trip and we had a great time Razz - and we hung around together for a couple of times and we had a wonderful time talking about things, checking places out having some intimate time together Razz.

Well i finally got back a month and a half later 2 Stones lighter (never been so thin) and told every1 what a great time I had.

My greatest accomplishment would have to be the time I saved the world from ending.

It was 1978, and I was a wet-behind the ears secret agent in America's elite Central Intelligence Agency. I was apart of a team code-named "Yoyo", because we would often leave the country and come back in rapid succession on quick sorties.

July of 1978 we were sent into Northern Lativa on a mission to recover some stolen nuclear materials and make bad press for the Soviet government. The material, however, had fallen into terrorist hands and was being transported to Palestine. When me and my team arrived in Plaestine we set to finding the terrorist cell that had abducted the sensitive material, through "persuasive" techniques we found the information we were looking for and captured the man responsible. He had planned on building a nuclear bomb and setting it off inside the Soviet Union and blaming it on the United States, thereby causing nuclear retaliation and a lots of large booms. However, luckily we were able to stop the man and execute him and his comerades before any of this happened.

True story!

Disclaimer: This story is not actually true and is pure satire. I lead a boring life and wanted to create a fun story. In truth, the biggest accomplishment I've done in my thus far is get accepted to Marine Corps Officer School! I leave in October, yay!

Getting born and accompanying this world with my brilliant mind! Really, it were dark and sad times before I got born. There were no intelligent minds in the world to offer a clear view on the society those days. But look now! If you're the most intelligent you'd know that "splitted" isn't even an English word, and that we are not "with" six billion people. There are more than six billion people in the world now and you claim responsibility for that... wow you've been busy! Laughing

It's not too hard on Heroic, but I've never tried that level on Legendary, apparently it's very hard on Legendary though...

I would like to post here about my amazing achievements in AS level English Literature, which I'm doing a year early with only half the time that a normal AS level student would. Unfortunately, I only got a C (61 marks - 63 was a B) in my first exam. I'm retaking it because I got a B in the mocks exams and quite a few others got As. I know I know I can do it... It will just be a challenge.

Well I really enjoy volunteering in different organisations and helping people I think one of the most amazing things I've done is actually participate in building one's home with Habitat for Humanity.
Another thing although some people will think this is lame I met someone who loves me just as much as I love them and we are married.

Oh wow! That's like... Awesome! I don't know anyone else who's done that, I think you're truly amazing and an inspiration for the masses because of what you've done.

Hang on... You didn't even do anything! It was basically all your mother's work. Trying to take credit for someone else's amazing achievement, moreover: your mothers! That's just sad, oh dear alexdude, oh deary me! Razz

I'm sarcastically attacking you here because that post was one of the most pointless posts ever. I could easily have reported it as a 'poor quality post', however it would only be fair then if I went through this whole thread and reported many similar posts.

There are two really great ones that I am going to list. For one I helped many, many cub scouts get their arrow of light(for those who don't know that is the highest and last rank in that program), I have also helped six or seven boy scouts get their Eagle ranks which is the most recognized achievement in their lives as well as my own. I think that all of that is really amazing.

Once I did more than 10 pushups (13 exactly).
I read Dandelion Wine all the way from cover to cover, almost.
I drove my truck more than 90 miles per hour.
    I can run really fast.
I decided not to get a trepanation.
I was really nice to my sister.
I cut my neighbor's grass while he was on vacation.
    I can write pretty good.
I got a cool cell phone (chocolate).
I am gonna get a new better ipod.
I can ride a two wheeler with no hands.
    I am good at stuff.
    And I like to draw.
But the best thing I ever did is wait 10 years+ (1997-...) for Duke Nukem Forever to come out so I can play it.

Don't know if this qualifies as amazing, but it was definitely a rush... at a train station in Aichi-ken on the line running through Akaike a boy about 11 or 12 somehow got onto the train tracks.

The most amazing thing I've ever done was give birth to my daughter without pain medication-and yes the father is still alive even though I threatend him with a horrible end. My child is the most amazing thing in the world-and yes I am very biased about my kid.

Second was crashing into a corn field in Nebraska when my child pulled my hair. She pulled so hard and at such an odd angle that I lost control of the vehicle and crashed into my grandmothers corn....ah how I still get ridiculed for that to this day.

Um.... *thinks desperately to think of something really cool*....

Wow this is a tough one... maybe my life sucks? Um.... the most amazing thing I've ever done in my life is... yeah I got nothin'. If I tried hard enough to actually think of something, it'd probably just be something lame enough to humiliate me more than I already am. I make websites?

Damn. Too late.

I've done that too, and I must admit that earning Eagle Scout is probably the most amazing thing I've ever done in my life! I value my Eagle Badge more than anything else. I also got my Arrow of Light, but that was when I was ten, so I don't remember it to well. But I remember everything about Boy Scouts and those memories are priceless to me.

All of my best memories have grown from Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts taught me how to camp, lead, etc. It turned me into a huge thrill-seeker, adventure junkie that keeps going further and further. Pretty soon, I'll hopefully be up at the summit of Mt. Everest, the grandest of peak of them all. Backpacking/trekking is the greatest thing ever. Being out in the wild for weeks at a time and not seeing any other person, just animals, except for the friend or two that you're with is amazing. So is the survival and adventure that comes with it. All of these things were possible from that one accomplishment - the Eagle Scout award.

Wow, i just realised i haven't done anything VERY amazing with my life, i feel really empty right now lol.

I don't think anything I've done yet warrants the description 'AMAZING', but... I finished a short story the other day. I've had writer's block and various motivational issues for 6 years. So this felt pretty great. Maybe if I finish NaNoWriMo I'll feel 'AMAZING'!

Well the whole life is a part of an amazement, lets thank God for that, to be precise I have adopted few young born squirrels and am caring them these days, they are very small and yet not open their eyes.

I have made computer viruses together with my friend and scared many friends out of their S###. Also made antiviruses for that viruses!! , hehe

The done biking at high speeds, of course the speeds were not upto the limits that are in the western countries but still done to the top speed of my bik.

Then yaah in anger I smashed up my mobile into numerous parts over no issue!!

There may be many more, actually I am not unable to categorize amazement to non-amazement Smile

I don't know about my whole life. There's probably some really deep answer I'm forgetting. lol

But a few weeks ago my sister and I saved a dog from getting put to sleep by taking her to her new owners. She's such a sweet dog!! It felt really good to help her. And afterwards I went to a really awesome DIY punk show. So that was pretty amazing!

I while ago I put up a sign expressing my displeasure with the city's plan to tear down a whole block downtown, and it got mentioned in the newspaper. XD The flyers I made about a racist bar owner in my town never got into the paper however...

I finished my first novel manuscript last night. It took me 20 years to summon the courage to finally do it.

The most amazing thing that happend to me is that i survived a near death experiance and thanking Almighty GOD for this second chance of living. it has also made me realize that life is not for wasting in trivel things but to be as useful to others as possible and to always remember to thank our loved ones for just being there in time of our need and telling us never to lose HOPE.

Would probably be my travels to the US and Southamerica two years ago, where I was away for half a year with a friend of mine... I find myself putting everything else going on, into a context concerning these travels; when I feel down, or just want to put thing into perspective, I usually think about this...
Also the field of anthropology which I'm studying now, has given me alot

well i have done many things which may even be indescribable. but the one thing i did which was the most adventurous one was going to the bungee jump 3 times in the same day. it was like crazy.
we knew the manager resort well, so he let us do 2 times more.

i did 2 bungee jumps and 1 swing in the same day. so from that day onwards i am not that scared to do the bungee jumps. and till date i have done over 8 jumps.

next time i go to a bungee jump i will attempt to do back flip jump.

i hope this time it will be even better than my previous jumps..

During year 12 of high school I slept with my principals daughter(I was 18 she was 21 at the time) and she got my initials tattooed on her lower back. Everyone found out.

I passed Airforce training with honors and distinctions.

4. Around the year 2004, after selling the website in #3, I started something different and got interested in computer hardware, and built my first custom computer. It's my fastest machine to date, but I don't really use it much. I really should soon. I use it for storage since 40GB is good for something. (I bought that hard drive new only because it was the only thing I could afford at the time, but there's no real need to get anything bigger for that PC right now).

I'm not sure that I would be able to say what is the most "amazing" thing I've ever done. Moving to one coast, then the other? Going to Peru? Study abroad in Europe? Writing poetry, painting, having a kid? installing the air conditioner in our first apartment in NYC? Killing giant roaches, getting lost in Barcelona, driving in Los Angeles, having an epiphany in the National Portrait Gallery, skinny dipping in the Illinois river? I'm proud of these experiences... not sure what the most amazing one is, or if any of them qualify.

The most amazing thing I ever did? I don't think I've done anything that would be considered epic by all of your standards. The closest thing would probably be when I started making websites. Now, I'm making quite a bit of cash. And, with that money I can do amazing things, like hanggliding, or buying a massive tv.

TURTLE!!! Ages since we've chatted. Hope you are well.

I have done nothing extraordinary or amazing. Travelled a bit. Studied a lot. Moved around. Met lots of interesting people. Lost some interesting people out of my life too.

I guess I hope, somewhere or somehow, I've touched the lives of those who've meant something to me, and made a small difference in their worlds, as they have in mine.

Pretty sappy, huh?
