Hey, I was just wondering what type of system you are running at the moment. Here is mine(its a piece of crap)
Dell Dimension 4100
Intell Pentium 3
20 GB Hard drive
128 MB Ram
Thats all I know about and its useless but I am getting a new PC within the next 2 weeks which is a massive difference compared to my current PC:
XPS 700 (D07XP7)
Intel® Pentium® Extreme Edition 965 Processor (3.73GHz, 1066MHz, 2x2MB cache),
Genuine Windows® XP Professional, SP2
2048MB Dual Channel DDR2 667MHz [2x1024] Memory
500GB Serial ATA RAID 1 Mirror (2x500GB 7200rpm drives with DataBurst™ cache)
500GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA/100 Hard Drive with 16MB DataBurst™ cache
16x DVD+/-RW & 16x DVD Drives
512MB nVidia™ GeForce 7900GTX graphics card
128MB Ageia™ PhysX™ PCI Card
Dell™ 30" UltraSharp™ Widescreen Flat Panel (3007WFP)
Sound Blaster® X-Fi Xtreme Music PCI Soundcard
Dell™ A525 Speakers with Subwoofer
and a load of other stuff.....its looking good. Im so excited about getting this PC.
P.S. What do you think about the new one?
oO woah not bad a config... mine's currently an amd athlon 64 3200 wif 80gb hdd, 1gb ram, dvd writer and x600 sapphire graphics card. rather proficient still and can play most mainstream games well coz i dun really go for the extra details and stuff..
but regarding ur rig..you could always invest in a dual core processor..more effective in the long run..especially in AMD dual core X2
I'm running:
Single Core 2.2Ghz
7.1 Surround Sound
GeForce 7900 GTX
2GB RAM
300GB Hard Drive
Some nice Sony drives (52x) one for DVD/CD burning and one just for playing.
XP Professional
550W PSU (supporting my new stuff)
I've got a Dell Dimension 4100 upgraded to 256 MB RAM for testing purposes.
My other computer I'm on now is a IBM Intellistation A Pro.
AMD Opteron Processor 2.8GHz
64MB NVIDIA Quadro
1 Gig Memory
80 Gig serial ATA drive
XP Pro
Intel P4 2.8GHz
256 mb ram
80 gb hard disk
1mb cache
On your new comp, I'd wait just a few weeks to get the Conroe procs in that PC. They absolutely flatten the AMDs.
My current system is in my sig and dual booting windows and linux.
I also have right now a laptop running linux:
PII @ 333mhz
64mb RAM
4GB HDD
and another desktop running linux:
PII @ 333mhz
128Mb RAM
10GB HDD
dell 2.8ghz
80 gig hard drive
512 mb ram
but yet im still runinng windows ME .. lmfao
i have actually used windowsXP and i didnt like it all.......
so... i stick with my windows ME
p4 1.8ghz
384mb ram
40gb hdd
winxp pro
1. AMD Athlon 64 3000+
512 MB ram
200 GB HDD
Lanboy cabinet
2. Apple iBook
G3, 640MB ram
Hmm some nice systems, just got my new one built today:
GPUs: 2x GeForce 7950 GTX's (Quad SLI)
CPU: Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 (fastest CPU out there its whipping the AMD's atm
)
RAM: 4 Gigs of Corsair DDR-2
Case: Thermaltake Armor
HDD: (4) 200gig SATA 2 drives in a Raid 0 config
Monitor: (2) Dell 2405 24" Monitor
OS: Windows XP
I am getting some problems with the duel monitors when gaming but it doesnt take 2 seconds to switch too one
Ive got a second pc still pretty new.. it can play probly every new game at a pretty cool fps. Ive got it on a duel boot with linux/XP
Apple Powerbook G4 15"
1.5GB ram
1.67mhz
80GB@5400rpm hard disk
??? graphics card w/64mb (64 is low, but it runs everything surprisingly well)
MacOSX 10.4.7
I am completely satisfied with this laptop.
I'll get an intel-mac in a few years.
Currently I am running:
a custom built desktop, water cooled with the following specs to this point.
dual core 2.8 ghz
2 gb of RAM
256 mb ati radeon
7.1 built-in surround
(4) 80 gb hard drives
it rocks, but i am building a couple more to run other operating systems
this one currently runs xp pro.
building one for linux, and soon to be for a vista box for testing the beta out.
we will see how those come along. doing them little by little. not in a rush, but want to get them done soon and hooked up to my home network. should be sweet when all is complete.
I have too many PC's around here that I've actually lost count. (Knock on wood, I got another yesterday).
So I'll only tell the specs on the 2 primary machines that I use regularly :
Main Machine (At Home)
================
Dell OptiPlex GX240
Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.4GHz (Upgraded from 2.0GHz originally)
768MB of RAM (Upgraded from 256MB originally, but it's not able to hold 2 512MB chips, so I'm maxed out on memory)
80GB HDD (Upgraded from the original 40GB hard drive)
DVD+/-RW Drive (Upgraded from the original CD-ROM drive, then to a CD-RW and a DVD-ROM [two separate drives] until I bought my DVD burner)
ZIP250 Drive (Upgraded, as it never had one, and I like using ZIP drives for some files)
Internal Card Reader (Upgraded since I took out my 2nd drive when I bought my DVD burner, it's connected to the internal ports on my USB/FireWire PCI card)
17" Dell LCD Flat-Panel Monitor (Upgraded from the original 17" CRT Dell monitor, as it was cheap)
64MB video card (Upgraded from the original 32MB card)
I got this as a Christmas gift from my dad to me in 2003, but I think I spent more than $1,000 on it over the past few years on upgrades for it. I put a USB/FireWire PCI card in it since I had too many devices to plug into the 2 USB ports in the back since I was running out quickly. This I think I'm going to keep for awhile since it's not a bad system. I upgraded smaller things with it, like my speakers, the mouse, keyboard, etc. It adds up when I'm starting to think about all the money I put into this machine.
Laptop Computer (My Main Mobile Machine)
============================
Dell Inspiron 6000
Intel Centrino @ 1.7GHz
512MB of RAM
60GB HDD
DVD+/-RW Drive
External USB Floppy Drive (Upgraded, since in my eyes it's not complete without it)
External USB-Powered ZIP250 Drive (Upgraded too, as it's useful to transfer bigger files from my primary machine to my laptop if it's not hooked up to the internet).
Lots of cool and interesting knick-knacks that I spent a few hundred on to make it a cool device to toy around with, and might be useful someday.
I paid $750.00 for this system, excluding the upgrades I done for it. I plan on getting the maximum RAM for it too (2GB) but that will cost me an arm and a leg to buy, but eventually I'll go out and buy them. Other upgrades are always possible too.
- Mike.

Hmmm... My desktop is an old 3.2GHz Celeron, 1Gig ram. 60 Gig HDD. Graphicscard NVidia something. 128MB.
However, on the more interesting touch, my PC that I use as a gw is an old 486-66, 16 meg of ram, 260MB HDD. Running S.u.S.E. 7.0 on it.
I also have a samba-server, with two 250Gig HDD's. An old 133MHz 64 MB ram and 4.? Gig HDD. Running SuSE 8.1 on that one.
And I have a small Libretto70CT. With bluetooth and Avaya wireless card, all for sniffing, and pocketsize at that. Oh, and if I ever want to hack...
I have IceWM on it, but I do prefer running text-mode programs. Like pebrot for MSN...
Too small for any document-typing sort of use. But then again, I never did like doing office-things...
and I have a few other stuff laying around. Even have linux on my X-Box. (no, not suse) However, that wasn't very usefull. Apart from being a rescue-thing for my BIOS on it.
Oh, and I have an old Dreambox. Imagine, a satelite-decoder running linux?! So nice!
I wish I had a cell-phone that ran linux as well...
Well, it's probably happening any day soon.

Processor is AMD athlon. I am pretty impressed by this processer. I bought i at half the price of the then intel counterpart Pentium 4. It is fast as well.
My mother board is mercury and it is working good for the last 4 years.
My RAM is just 256 and i really need to upgrade to higher. I dont ahve a graphics card, not much of a gamer.
My floppy drive isnot working but who cares, floppys are extinct.
I have one CD-ROM-Writer.
My screen is a CRT of 17 ".
I am not planing on upgrading as i use the desktop of my office mostly.
The specs are pretty impressive:

CD/DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW IDE Reader/Burner
AGP 8x DVI/VGA XFX NVIDIA GeForce 6200 with 256MB DDR2
I got the barebones which included the case, mobo, processor, heat sink, and fan for $90 after rebate + s/h. Just goes to show why you should always build your own computer from parts online - companies like dell will overcharge you for preassembled machines.
