What dose it mean to be a Jedi?

We r the SYC
Jedi-ism has has been recognised as a religion, at least in this country.

Why and what is it? is it as its pertrayed in star wars? or somthing else and how do u live as a jedi?

if it is as in Star Wars dose Sith-ism exist?
Roald
Well Jedi-ism is just based on the basic principles of all religions: Love your everybody, help the poor people, protect the weak people.

Quote:
New Zealand weathered a similar Jedi incitement during its 6 March 2001 census. In an e-mail reportedly sent to thousands, Star Wars buffs encouraged New Zealanders to declare their religion as "Jedi", claiming if 8,000 did so it would be officially recognized, along with the others listed: Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Jewish. Once again, wishful thinking met up with cold reality: According to New Zealand census office representative Elizabeth Clements, there is no magic number that will put any religion on the list for official recognition.

Jedi is NOT an official religion in New Zealand, nor anywhere else.

Even if it were, saying 'I'm a Jedi!' will not make you a Jedi.

Omg. This is potentially a flaming topic of which the likes has never been seen. I myself have a rather hard time nodding to that specific... mentality. It seems somewhat... eery to get inspiration to a religious movement from a sci-fi (sorry, fantasy) setting. But what do I know? Maybe we all get the religious call in a year or so from a SMS preacher by the name of Obi Razz

aah... a relegion I haven't heard of, I don't know if I got it correctly but by reading above I came to understand it as a relegion. so I would like to know more about it.. who do you worship or is it a way of life (like hinduism) rather than worshiping.. who is the founder, is there an association or head office or something like that for this relegion, where is it first formed, do you have to be born as one or anybody can convert to this.. I got a lot of questions on and on.. cause this relegion or what ever you are talking about is new to me.. so somebody please enlighten me.. thanks..

It's a fictional religion from the Star Wars franchise.

I'm only half sure you're not joking, as I thought everyone had seen the films/cartoons/computer games/any other piece of merchandise you can brand. :p

Being a Jedi is like being a BUddist Monk

You must give sacrifice of many things to see the truth and understand it correctly

You must Meditate to reach enlightinment

You must treat all life equally, and help whenever

You cannot have marriage

I cannot honestly believe there are people discussing the virtues of a religion that exists ONLY IN MOVIES. This is why so many scam-artists make so much money. People will believe anything. I mean, I respect the rights of anyone to live however they like, but I also reserve the right to mock how they do it.... Rolling Eyes

Um... No. Jedism is only a fictional religion. It's not a question of becoming Luke Skywalker whatsoever. There is no such religion as Jedism.

Haha... Those Star Wars Fans... I'm a fan myself, but I'll stick to being not religious or addicted.

Once again, the fact that a lot of people put it on their census forms as a joke, and that a load of others are obsessed with that particular fictional universe does NOT make it an official religion.

And it has not been recognised as an official religion by any country.

In much the same way that learning Klingon will not make you a Klingon, or that Elvish is not an official language in any country in the world.

WAKE UP TO YOURSELVES

Your guys are ripping into other peoples faith, if you like it or not there are people who believe this and no its not obsession with star wars. You are insulting and down treading their beliefs..

Religion is not just a belief in your god or one of the worlds more well known and accepted faiths, religion is often not applied to certain cases where it should be. You dont have to believe it but no matter how obscure it is you have to accept it.

You all claim it comes from a work of fiction and therefore cannot be real, well others can claim the Bible is a work of fiction so does that mean all religions based off it cant be real?

Jedi-ism takes the ideals portrayed through the movie star wars which is a mixture of many different faiths, it combines them under one unitied banner.
You will see aspects of many religions in it, its a search for inner peace, a striving for balance in nature, protection of those who cannot protect themselves, understanding the way of life. Theres many other aspects, feel free to search the net.

Basically its not about being the next Luke skywaker, none of the people who truly follow this religious belief say they have powers and lightsabers and can throw lightning at you, that isnt what its about. Just like the followers of Christ dont say they can turn water into win, walk on water and feed 5,000 people.

Now please just because the faith comes from a slightly obscure place look beyond the name and dont disregard other peoples beliefs even if they are strange to you.
