Hi everybody, I just wanted to share a cool Instant Messaging Client that I found that's entirely web-based. You can connect to AIM/ICQ, Yahoo!, Jabber or GTalk, and MSN entirely free. I use it all the time instead of actual programs anymore, it's fully featured and contains smilies, away message support, invisible support, and provides chat transcripts of all your conversations.
Check it out and let me know what you think:
www.meebo.com
Nice use of Ajax.
This site is quite useful for a lot of people, especially those who sit behind proxy servers that allow only HTTP traffic and thus can't use IM clients. I regularly use it when I'm at the university.
One gripe I have with meebo is that there is no proper visual indication when somebody IMs you. There is a sound alert, but speaker/headphones are not always available. A non-invasive visual indication of new IMs would be very helpful. However popping up a Javascript dialog to inform of new messages is definitely not going to be useful. Hopefully the people behind meebo will come up with something good.
It's a good site. I also use this sometimes when I'm behind proxy servers. It's a pretty neat site.
However I find that there's a bit of a delay when chatting which is understandable. I wish you could also use voice chatting with it.
I would like to implement something like this on my own site. Can someone direct me to how I can start doing that?
Cool. One application based alternitive is Trillian. If anyone wanted to know.

"Websites" forum.
Does Trillian have a web based application? If it does, I'd like to know. So far it seems like it's only a standalone desktop application.
What about e-messenger? It is a good and fast web-based IM with several platform. Webmessenger for msn is a good one also, but only serves msn...
well I used e-messenger in the past but I use http://www8.meebo.com at places where im clients don't work...... I think meebo.com is better and also support many languages........

e-messenger does not support Gtalk does it? I think it only supports msn, yahoo and aol.
How safe are all these web based programs? Can they capture our user name and password? I'm a bit paranoid about it.
I do not know if they record username and passwords but there is an option of secure login in e-messener.net....... Also, meebo.com states that It encrypted passwords with 1024-bit RSA keys......
Yeah meebo.com is great service and have some sort of security. Great for emergency situation when you use some other PC but need IM. Anyway it's very uncomfortable to use webbased chat IMHO. Prefer the software one.
I also use meebo.com at the university.
I've signed up for a meebo account, so now, I can store all my chat logs and review them anywhere I go.
The passwords are all encrypted, so meebo is all secured.
This is an amazing service. It's really useful especially if the computer you're using doesn't have IM. And you don't even have to install software because it's web based.
Awesome.
On a related note, has anyone any idea of any website similar to meebo, but connecting to IRC networks ? I know about the chatzilla extension to firefox, but that is not always an option.
Meebo is now blocked for me
. I tried different servers of meebo like www3.meebo.com, www8.meebo.com etc etc but to no avail. Another meebo type of site?
There is another one similar to Meebo called KoolIM. Goto www.koolim.com. You can use Aim, Google Talk, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and ICQ.
www.iloveim.com is another one I've just found. It does not have Google Talk in it though.
I never enter my gmail or hotmail password on any other site apart from hotmail and gmail itself. You never know wheather they are storing your passwords in a database or not
That's a new one for me. I will test it right away. Great tip since all Messenger service ports are blocked at my University.

www.iloveim.com
Thanks to all members who were posting in this thread b'se they all gives me so helpfull sites. These all sites very helpfull in my office for me & doing all things very clean.
Meebo is better than e-buddy ? Which is faster ? as for gmail you dont need a web based messanger since you can chat from your mail account.
But most schools and work places have gmail blocked. So meebo's the best way to go.

Thank for your sharing, I used to do with this tool, and it is cool indeed, but much too simple. However, it is worth you to have a try
I use this site all the time! I have four IM accounts all in one. Its easy to use, and you dont have to download anythig. 5 stars.

Looks like the program in Ubuntu;)
I think it's good idea. I chat with my friend at once, now I talk my experience:
1. The GUI is friendly in the mass, but there are many bugs. For example, I can't restore my chat window as I had minimized it.
2. It is slow as I was chatting. I think it's serious problem, for slowness will affect remarkably the experiences of customers.
I think the website will popular if customers can use it as same as doing IM. Good Luck!
David
thanks for telling me about meebo!!! it's really gr8.... excellent implementation of ajax
beautifull
I love Meebo too. What's really nice about it is that they update it really often and keep redesigning and adding new features. It's already extremely popular and they launched pretty recently, considering. Wow.

Wow, thank you. In the past I use ebuddy.net , but meebo.com seems much cleaner. And I also have that fear, that these things save our user names and passwords. So I use to change it right after I used it. But now I can chill a bit.
