Apache is good, but I prefer to use it on Linux. IIS is for Windows, but I don't know so much about it.

I've alreayd got apache 2 server running on my windows machine. How can I set it up as a HTTP Tunnel Server? I would like the ability for Http Tunnel clients to be able to connect to my server for bypassing firewall.

Do u intend running a proxy server service?
if so try and compile a java app that your clients can use to connect to your proxy rather than use HTTP Tunnel.

I just want to set a server up so people behind strict firewalls can access the internet freely. Can you please tell me more about your solution? I don't quite understand it.

You can find some software to bypass firewall and bypass proxy server (http tunnel). Some of them are free. One of the free software like that is http://www.hopster.com/. You can use these type of softwares to bypass

Have anyone tried using any free http tunnel software for voice chats? I want to know if any of them is good enough to do voice chats. I heard that most free http tunnel programs are for low bandwidth. I want to know if it would be faster to set up a server with a good bandwidth and have http tunnel clients using it.

if speaking about VoiP, then yes it is possible.
You can setup a server to run a proxy, it would work.
What operating system are you planning on using?
what type of box or server, bandwidth and transfer bandwidth?
remember that people using your proxy will run up your bandwith.
so if you have 100 people downloading 30GB you'll need 3000GB tranfer bandwidth!

Thanks for your suggestion. I'm planning to run it on my Windows XP machine. I am limiting the number of user to only a few of my friends who needs to bypass the firewall. I have a 24Mb/s download speed and 1Mb/s upload speed. I've got P4 3.6GHz processor and 1Gb of RAM. I want it mainly for my friends to use Gtalk voice chatting which is blocked in their country.

Can you also tell me how to set up this proxy? I have apache running on my box already.

Thought I'd bump this thread as I'm interested in getting web access (namely web-mail) through a strict firewall.

I've thought about HTTP tunneling andtried setting up barracuda drive on XP, although I get a secure connection and can use telnet succesfully, web access just times out.

I've also thought about setting up a VPN but I've heard this is more tricky.

Can anyone recommend a free http tunnel server or VPN server that's pretty easy to setup?

Yes, I would like to be able to bypass the firewall (not under my control) to access the Internet for legal downloading, etc.

Seem no one has any solution so far.

Hope to get some help for this.

With regards.

Have anyone tried using "Your-Freedom" program to bypass firewalls and proxies? If so, can you tell me how it works? Will it slow down the connection?
networktunnel
http://www.networktunnel.net

Super network tunnel is a personal http tunnel solution, include client and server program. Server program usually install at home computer, client program usually install at office computer. It like a secure VPN software, allow you to access your internet programs with not be monitored at work, school, or the government and gives you a extra layer of protection against hackers, spyware , ID theft's with our encryption. Bypass any firewall also that gives you access and security of the web in one program. Surf, IM, P2P, Game, etc.
The difference is that with other http tunnel software, super network tunnel is a two-way http tunnel software, office computer can access home computer's network and control home computer, and can run game/IM/P2P/Stock software via Home's network, also home computer can access office computer's network and remote control office's computer, and can continue your work in home.

To simplify your configuration work, super network tunnel integrates the functions of similar 'sockscap', you now only need to click the mouse, select the program and drag it to the tunnel list of programs, the work is completed.

With the subscription http tunnel server service method compare , use super network tunnel you will get the higher safety, because your private transit data not need transfer with common http tunnel server, and in this way ,your speed is more than many times compare subscription server , because your server is designed for only your client services, do not need to share with others in this server.
Super network Tunnel really equal SocksCap + Bidirectional Http Tunnel +Remote Control. It's the first realize two-way http tunnel software in the world.
