Tour De France

How about that Robbie McEwen.
I wish would have had a better showing in todays time trials.
But, he is doing great.

Too bad Ullrich and Basso didn't get to race.

The daily Saab contest code words are.
prolouge- cyclysm
stage 1- sprint
stage 2-breakaway
3- USA
4- cadence
5- Hincapie
6- Phonak
7- Landis

Petacchi is also missing...

McEwen is a great athlet, i don't think he'll win the Maillot Jaune though, he's more of a sprinter and without Petacchi there's a god chance to get into green.
De_Luis
McEwen will never win the yellow, so it's pretty much understandable that he took it easy in the timetrial. Don't worry too much about his result there.

With the top 4/5 of last year's end ranking not here it promises to be a weird and open Tour. Leipheimer was the biggest flop most noteably yesterday in the TT. He's supposed to be a specialist, but already lost 5 minutes or so on Gonchar. Can't see Gonchar win it in the end, but guys like Landis (who finished second) should be one to watch out for, for example. Although I hope it won't be an American again this year.
jwellsy
I like seeing Landis doing very well.
He's not as pretty as most of the other guys.
He has to get by on his ability, not his looks.
elcyron
i don't think a pretty face would help him through the mountains. he seems to be in good condition an is named as one of the favorites for yellow.

T-mobile is a bit of a surprise, lokks like they're riding like hell to get the vacant captainsposition. might pay the price later... let's see
jwellsy
The Saab sweepstakes daily code words are;

stage 8- Leipheimer
stage 9- Gerolsteiner
stage 10- pyrenees
stage 11- tourmalet

Good luck

wow... landis lost an awful lot of time today. i don't think he can make that up in the next stages.

so what do you think, with the favorite gone who will win?
jwellsy
Landis just doesn't have a good enough team to support him.
That last climb, just killed him today.
He probably didn't eat enough, then boinked.
When they get to the team time trial he will probably lose more time.

With another mountain stage tommorrow Perrero will be tuff to beat.

more code words
stage 12- Bastille Day
stage 13- musette (thats their lunch bags)
stage 14- domestique ( thats the team members that support the leader)
stage 15- Alpe D'Huez

I didn't catch todays code word.

there is no team time trial this year, but still he can't get yellow back.
perero is probably the best bet.
skynet
WEll After the former unsputed Champion Lens Armstorng has reataired.. it's will be very interesting to see who can win the Tour this year.
jwellsy
Thanks Elcyron, I hadn't noticed they were skipping team time trials this year.

How about that Landis comeback!
Down 8min, and back to only 30sec down.
One of the greatest stage wins in history.
He was constantly eating and drinking to keep from boinking.
What a stud!
elcyron
absolutly impressive!!!
probably the most amazing piece of riding i've ever seen.
he's wearing the red nunber today, maybe tomorrow he'll wear yellow but whatever happens he is the hero of the tour.

the other teams totally underestimated his will to proof what he's worth.
after yesterdays stage he realy got everybodys respect.
i still can't believe it...
jwellsy
WHO'S YOUR DADDY, NOW !!!

The third American ever to WIN the TDF!

Instead of being the Tour De Lance.

It's now the Tour De Landis!!

That has to be the best come from behind comebacks
I have ever seen.
Dragonfly
I have been trying to follow the Tour De France live on TV but I don't seem to understand fully. May be I should read it from Wikipedia more. But to me this sport is one of the most tiring and physically demanding sports I've ever seen.

With Lance retiring it looks like it is losing the glamour.... though it is really not in reality...
jwellsy
Here's a pretty good FAQ about the TDF.

Well, it's end. Who won? Last stage won Tur Hushoft (I don't know how he's writing).

landis won the tour with about 55 seconds lead.
not much, huh? take into account that on the last alpsstage he took the point for about 80 kilometers. he charged on the last ramp and made sinkewitz ( who has been on his backwheel all the time) look like an amateur.
by the end of the stage he had 8minutes+ on the peloton.

okay, i admit - the other teams didn't realy go after him but that doesn't make his ride one bit less impressive.
those 55 seconds hardly represent his effort.

IMO it has been one of the exciting tours in years,i realy hope to see landis return to the tour after his surgery

Lance is a butthead. He insults frenchmen then comes to our country. Beatch!

That is funny on so many different levels.

Is it better to be a head-buter, than a butt-head?

No one was even talking about Lance.

The American winner's name is LANDIS.
tribe
Its 1:44 PM here in the UNITED STATES, and it is still official. France Still Sucks!

O you freaking babies wake up. The US has the best athletes in the world. Why don't you train someone to be the American Disabled!

Lance had Cancer.
Floyd Landis has an arthritic hip.

All HAIL THE GOOD OLE UNITED STATES.
God Bless America!!!!

Make that 8 in a row!!!! USA USA USA!

How did you like our Serhiy Honchar win? Amazingly, don't you think?
jwellsy
Honchar had a fantastic time trial.
McCewen and Rassmussin both had a great TDF also.

a great time. winning both time trials proofs his worth.
if i remember correctly t-mobile initialy thought he was to old for the tour.
*g*

Well it's seemes that the american rolled the Tour (first Armstrong now Landis) ... nice win.. and this is really unexpectball.
d4rch
An american again... But it doesn't mean anything I think. There are not better than the others. There are just 2 or 3 cyclists who are very strong. The other coutries have also won many race (but not the Tour de France Very Happy)

However skynet, I agree with you : unexpectable !!!
HDirtwater
Good God! Landis fails a drug test!! Shocked WTF is wrong with these people. I would so much like to believe that (as I heard on the news) it was the cortazone shots he takes for his injured hip that made him test positive for elevated testosterone, but man what a moron if he really took anything. Especially knowing he's gonna get tested every day of the race!

Crying or Very sad
elcyron
those doping news are a real pain in the a**. it takes out all the fun of watching sports, and thats not only cycling.
it's all about wining, nobody remenbers the second one, no one pays to see a second best and then they still wonder why they cheat?

as long as winning is the only thing that counts they'll never get rid of the dopingproblem. if they come up with better test - someone will come up with better drugs.

what i don't understand ist: why testosterone? why use something that can be tested ?
the question should be : why not accept that he f*cked up his victory when he boinked? but hey, in this world only the winner counts. so if you cant beat them cheat them.

i hope the B-sample will be negative..
