memberlist browse/search structure

I was perusing the memberlist for my own listing today and I found a minor inconvenience that someone might have some design tips for. I was using my laptop with dial up and it took me several page refreshes using alphabetically ordered (though numbered instead of listed by letter) pages to fing my own id information. Has anyone else found this rather time consuming. Maybe a simple search box (I did not see one, is there one) would have saved me several 56k minutes, orI hope an set of alphatetical links instead of the usual "1 2 3 4 .....234 235 236 NEXT" format that is currently listed. I hope this is seen as the humble advice it is meant as, and not griping. I am amazed at the FriHost product/service. There is more offered here than I know what to do with (YET).

A good idea, have been meaning to mention it for some. I'd suggest addind a "a, b, c, d, e, f, g," etc list though. I currently have this on my forum and is great if your running low on time.

Sorry, didn't think. What about adding both? Click on the letter that corrosponds to the member name and then have numbers below this showing the pages?

Then again, a search box would be much easier Very Happy

Just added a seach username feature and a feature that only shows usernames with a specific letter on my forum, if you want you can check it out at www.mezmorizing.net/forum/memberlist.php - Bondings only trusts his coding so Rolling Eyes

If all you wanted to do was check your own profile then all you could have done is hit the Profile button on one of you posts.

Its that simple.

Have you seen IPB or vB boards memberlist. They have the option to sort it by names too. But not all the members are listed at once (for the same reason u mentioned) but in staggered manner with each page having 50 members or so.

As for jumping huge numbers in phpBB memberlist here's the trick (GOD knows how many times I have said this here Wink

)
After you have it arranger as per your requirments, go to the second page and you will see this
http://www.frihost.com/forums/memberlist.php?mode=joined&order=ASC&start=70
Now change the number to where you want to go. You can maybe multiply the number of members shown on one page (70 on frihost) or just enter a random number.
e.g. Directly to page 35:
http://www.frihost.com/forums/memberlist.php?mode=joined&order=ASC&start=2450

or a random number
http://www.frihost.com/forums/memberlist.php?mode=joined&order=ASC&start=12414

NOTE to Bondings: Can we have the number of members shown on one page increased to 100 from the current 70.
