About 2 days ago I accidently deleted a 21 gb folder on my windows xp.
Now, I need to get my data back....
Please recommend me a software that would be able to do that.
I would prefer a freeware or a demo version but I also do not mind paying for a really good software......
ok the best software recovery software out there to date is O&O disk recovery and u can get a free trial for a couple of days and this would be well enough ... but there is others which are free but i will be honoust all they will find is really photos but i could be wrong but anyway i recomend O&O
Try this -> getdataback http://www.runtime.org/gdb.htm
its very powerfull, I am high recomended for you to using it. Even if your hardisk accidently formated, getdataback can recover. Good luck

No matter what the disaster scenario is-
GetDataBack will recover your data if the hard drive's partition table, boot record, FAT/MTF or root directory are lost or damaged, data was lost due to a virus attack, the drive was formatted, fdisk has been run, a power failure has caused a system crash, files were lost due to a software failure, files were accidentally deleted...
Recover even when Windows doesn't recognize the drive-
GetDataBack can even recover your data when the drive is no longer recognized by Windows.
It can likewise be used even if all directory information - not just the root directory- is missing.
Get everything back-
Advanced algorithms will make sure that all directories and sub directories are put together as they were, and that long file names are reconstructed correctly.
GetDataBack is safe-
GetDataBack is read-only, meaning the program will never attempt to write to the drive you are about to recover. Please make sure to read the safety instructions...
GetDataBack is easy to use-
The software enables the regular user to conduct his own data recovery by guiding him through five easy to understand steps, thus gives the advanced user the possibility to interfere with the recovery and improve the results, by examining the scan log, the file system details, file and directory information, by selecting the sector range to be scanned, by choosing excessive search for file systems or search for lost files, by calling Runtime's DiskExplorer. |

Dont you have backups :s
What filesystem are you using ??
But to be honest if you want it done propally then get a data recovery expert to sort it out
i can also recommend getdataback
helped me save a 250GB disk once so its my personal favorite...
Well my file system is FAT32.
Well I used Recover My Files, But it does not allowed me to obtain my data in the same directory structure and with the same files name.
Is there any software which can recover my data with the same files names as they were present before.
can GetDataBack do that?
you should try to know it, but this is true worked for me. I think getdata back the best software for like this case
ok getbackdata looks gud but its not as powerfull as O&O disk recovery

can you give explanation where or how powerfull o&o disk recovery than getdataback ? so i can try later. thanks
As somebody said, it is best to have up-to-date backups. But, anyway,
despite being aware of necessity of them, I never do them. Because of lack of time or need to allocate some storage media.
Anyway, when I have a problem with data loss, I use the cool german free tool called PcInspector. It is available here: http://www.pcinspector.de/
try Recover My Files 2006 ( V . 3.94 ) it is a very powerful tool for data recovery .
you can download a trial version from : www.recovermyfiles.com
good luck !
GetDataBack, definitely.
And take a look on this post also:

Try to see if you can recover it using GetDataBack.
http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-downloads.htm
"Recover your files when the data is no longer accessible due to formatting, fdisk, virus attack, power or software failure. Get everything back even when the drive's partition table, boot record, Master File Table or root directory is lost or corrupt."
"When performing a data recovery with GetDataBack we recommend that you proceed as follows:
# Install GetDataBack on a healthy Windows machine without the drive attached you want to recover from. Make sure you have sufficient space on the "good drive" for storing the recovered data. You also can store the recovered data to a LAN if have access to one. The machine you are running GetDataBack on can have any of the following operating systems: Windows95/98/ME, Windows NT, W2K, Windows XP.
# Shut down the computer and attach the drive you want to recover from ("bad drive") as a 2nd drive. You might need to jumper it differently. Make sure it is recognized correctly by the BIOS when starting up the computer.
# Start GetDataBack and verify that HD128: is the "good drive" and HD129: is the "bad drive". Perform Steps 1 to 3 of the recovery process for the "bad drive" HD129:. Please follow the instructions provided with each particular step.
# When Step 3 has completed and you are ready to copy the recovered files over to the "good drive", you need to purchase a license code if you have not already done so. Do not quit GetDataBack for purchasing or entering the license code, just enter the code and continue with copying the files. It is a good idea to start with the files you need most.
# After copying all desired files shut down the computer and remove the "bad drive". Store the "bad drive"in a safe place.
It is recommended to build a brand new system now. Use components other than the "bad drive". Install the operating system. Install the programs from their installation CD-ROMs. Finally import the recovered data to the new drive.
Verify you got back all the data you need. Do not recycle the "bad drive" before you are absolutely sure about this. It is a good idea to wait 4 weeks before re-using the "bad drive". If the "bad drive" had any mechanical problems you definitely must not use it again.
If you notice any mechanical problems with the drive, such as bad sectors or unusual noise, you should stop the recovery and make a drive image first. When successfully created, you can recover from this drive image as you would recover from the original drive. A mechanically damaged drive can fail entirely every second. It must be your primary goal to pull all raw data off such a drive as fast as possible. Making an image also reduces the load on the drive because each sector is read only once. Professional data recovery companies always make an image of the drive before trying to retrieve any files.
If your drive has a physical problem and you're unable to obtain a usable drive image, we recommend that you contact a data recovery lab for data recovery service.
If you divert from the process described above, always make sure you:
# never install GetDataBack on the "bad drive"
# never use the "bad drive" as the boot-up system drive (CSmile
# do not have temporary files and folders use the "bad drive"
# never copy the recovered files to the "bad drive"
# make an image first if the "bad drive" has mechanical problems"
