I thought that I was clever when I put some code in to hide the warning messages that some calls to getimagesize (PHP) was sending back. It was beautiful - I created a DIV class style that set the font size small and to a color that matched the background.

I sat back for a couple days - and noticed that the # of indexed pages by Google had dropped from 14,000+ all the way down to 650. There goes my traffic for the month!

I have since fixed that code - and (finallly) the numbers are starting to climb again - although very slowly for now. I think that I earned some minor Google penalty. It has been a couple weeks now - and I feel a slight bit better, but when I didn't know the real reason - what a nightmare.

Yup, that's how their ranking criteria works, I did a module on this at uni...to prevent against "irrelevent" pages (They think it is irrelevant because you have hyped your own site to such an extent!).
