The Canucks this year (2006-2007) have a chance of winning the stanley cup. With aquisitions like Roberto Luongo and key losses such as Ed Jovanoski, it is hard to tell whether or not the Canucks will be abble to produce wins this season.

Yep, I'm a fan. I'm also a fan in the other topic just a few lines down the first page here...http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-45097.html

I hope this ' Rolling Eyes ' is at someone else. I started this topic a month earlier then the other one.

I love hockey although I have never played it myself (other than the roller hockey I played with my friends in the middle of the road years ago).

I'm not too crazy about the new rules that have been created ever since the strike was resolved. Getting rid of 2 line passes and ending tied games in shoot-outs. I really think that that stuff hurts the game.

Shootouts are a travesty to the game, but eliminating the 2 line pass is something most die-hard hockey fans have been asking for for years. The NHL is the ONLY organized hockey league that had that rule. Not in the olympics, not in college, not in AHL/IHL, not in high school. Eliminating it is the best thing NHL hockey has done in years.

We all know the buffalo sabres should have won the cup. After destroying philly and beating Ottawa (who many said were the best team in nhl and built to win cup) their only downfall was not trading backup goaltender marty biron for a dman before teh deadline.. Game 7 against Canes they were down 1 top forward and 4 top dmen. They were screwed by injuries. They basically had a junior varsity defense the later half of the series bc of injuries.

Hockey fans are everywhere on the Internet. Why is that?

Well, because Hockey is played in primarily cold countries. And when it is cold (almost all year round in some places), you can do one of two things. You can go out and play hockey. Or you can stay home and use the Internet!

I have competed in sports (baseball and hockey collegiately) for all of my life and love all of them. However, hockey is bar-none the greatest sport in the world. It's a blast to play and fun to watch.

All my life I've wondered why the world is so screwed up and just doesn't grab on to hockey, but now I'm happy it's not so popular so that it feels more like your own.

The new rules NHL is also the greatest. It's more like European hockey and they way hockey was meant to be played. Give it about 5 years and the numbers (albeit small) will be back. The shootout is good for the casual fan (kind of like soccer/futball), but as long as they keep it away from the playoffs we'll be fine.

I think futball should change the worldcup and playoffs into sudden death, like hockey. No team should ever win a match/game of such importance on a stupid shootout. Sure during the regular season it's fun to watch, but come when it counts, do away with them.

HOCKEY RULES!

Does growing up seeing games at the Boston Garden and wanting to be Bobby Orr count? Smile

Of course, the only hockey games I see now are the ones on American cable channels, and I was grateful to be able to watch most of the Stanley Cup finals this year.

I'm a huge Flames fan having lived there for a while. I only saw the Flames get stronger this off season. They made some great aquisitions with Tanguay, Friesen, and McLennan, while not losing any real key players with the exception of Simon, and maybe Donovan. Either way, thier stronger than last season. Now, let's just see if we can get Sutter out from behind the bench. Wink

Daryl Sutter resigned from the coaching position two months ago, in case you didn't know. Unless you're insinuating that you don't wish to see him with the Flames organization. :s But although Sutter dropped his coaching job, he retained his general manager position. One might say that he fired himself. I guess the GM wasn't pleased with the coach after the Flames' playoff performance. Wink
