Play mp3 from windows shares in ubuntu

marioflory
Hey you!

Maybe yYOU can help me. I have a strange situation. I installed ubuntu and use mostly amarok and vlc to play multimedia files. Both work great. But when I open a windows share in Nautilus to browse my mp3 on the remote windows machine, I cannot play them in amarok or vlc. However, they play nice in totem video player. Anyone knows why? And if so, do you have any idea how I can change this? I'd love to play each and every mp3-song in my network over amarok, because it is cooooooooooooooooooool!!

Thanks a lot for your help

Hello my potential helpers....
Ummm....

noone can help me? I cannot believe that you didn't have a similar problem.. can you actually tell me if maybe you CAN DO what I'm trying to do? I mean if it is even possible... that would help me at least a little bit.

Thank you very much in advance.

What are the errors output? And do you have write access on your Windows partiton? Maybe Amarok needs write access to play a MP3.
