More than 30 killed in London explosions (Al Qaeda?)

A few explosions in London. The BBC suspects Al Qaeda.

TV coverage
Two people died and large numbers of casualties were reported after at least six blasts on the Underground network and a double-decker bus in London.

A police spokeswoman confirmed there had been two deaths at Aldgate and UK home secretary Charles Clarke said the explosions caused "terrible injuries".

The BBC's Frank Gardner said Arab sources said the blasts were probably the work of al-Qaeda.

London's police chief said traces of explosive had been found at one site.

Sir Ian Blair urged people to stay where they were and not to call emergency services unless it was a life-threatening situation.

Sir Ian said there had been "many casualties" but said it was too early to put a figure to those killed or injured and he reassured the public that an emergency plan was in place and the situation was "steadily coming under control".

Mr Clarke told reporters outside Downing Street: "The health services are in support to deal with the terrible injuries that there have been."

Sir Ian Blair said there had been at least six explosions, but said the picture was still "very confused".

Scotland Yard said explosions have been reported at Edgware Road, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East and Moorgate.

I've listened more deads.

How in the world did they only have two dead with six explosions??? ... Considering the accounts of a bus (or more) being "torn apart" and all. Either those explosions were quite weak, or they were really bad and there was just too much chaos to account for more dead. Seemed the dead count was at two for quite some time (intact bodies???? jeeese Sad hate to think that was reason only two were counted as dead).

BTW, In the bus explosions in Israel, I've heard that they count the dead by the number of heads that they find, hopefully this doesn't apply in the London incident.

This may or may not be accurate, but plausible considering the huge numbers of people wounded:

"The Associated Press is reporting that a US law enforcement official has put the toll at 40 killed."

The 2 dead is quite old and hasnt been updated yet. dead bodies down in the underground have not been counted yet as they have to be left for forensics.
The busses werent full but (this applies for 1 dont know about the rest) but in fact empty (bar the driver) and as the explosives on them were small and at the back of the bus not very effective.

unfortunately, the amount of victims at this hour (i've just listened on the radio) is 45 deads and near to 1000 injurieds.

that terrorist act looks like the one we had more than 1 year and a half ago in Madrid, i lived very near that horror because those trains pass through my town and i took those trains diary in my younger years to go to study to Madrid, also my brother in law just leaved one of the trains 5 mins before it exploited.

i know how all english people are suffering right now, and all i can't do is send them my deepest condolencies for all the victims and families and all the strongeness to pass through this sad and terrible moments.

All Spain and spanish people are with you all London and the whole England, be strong, the peace and democracy will win, be sure.

with affection and sadness

I think this whole "al-qaeda europe" thing is crazy. It is just people giving a bad name to Muslims. Apparently they claimed responsibility on their website. Has anyone been able to track it down?

This London Bombing has really made me realise that we need to "take care of our friends and not let them get out of contact". It turns out that my friends wife ( who lives in London ) missed one of the tube bombs by a matter of minutes.

So, if I have learnt one thing from this bombings, is to learn to keep my friends close - they may not be here tomorrow and then you missed your oppertunity to have contact with them.

Cheers,
Nick.

This was an awful thing to happen and the day after some great news as well. I was worried that my relations in london may have been in the area at the time as he works there.

I'am very regrest to this sad event of Brishtish civils, especially right after London is chosen the one who operate Olympic Summer. Terriors use this event to make impression to everybody all over the world. But I think we will not be afraid, each one need to take care international Terriorism and need to against them. Just do that we will win and keep peace in the earth. Besides, I think some government (not all civils) as USA, UK.... make causes that terriorism use to object us, particularly Iraq event, Watanamo Jail...

The world is very complexible, everybody need to take part in common work to keep peace on earth!!!!!!!

This may sound rude but I think these guys are amateurs...
If they would like to make something really awesome that would make the whole world go Shocked
They should do 5 bombings in every european capital at the same time...
Or every day in another capital.. that would scare people, this is just... ok..

Polish Security officials gathered just after London bombing were really concerned about the possible communicatin disorder as an effect to explotions.Suggested solution is to create one Central communication system between all the City services inc. Police,Ambulance,Firefighters etc. to coordinate all the forces. And I just thought how easy would be to destroy that system if it is the only one .Despite that I think that we as a human population should more discuss reasons of spreading out terrormore than just being concern on protecting our own business. This is to stop unavoidable escalation of the process.Peace.

Yeah, it does seem amateurish considering the potential number of casualties that could've resulted if they had more resources and the knowledge of how to use them. However compared to the palestinians and what's going on in Iraq right now, the attacks in Spain and England would be considered nothing short of "professional," if that's the right word for it. When you hear about suicide bombers in Israel, more often then not, it's laughable how few people they manage to kill, typically single digits or maybe just themselves LOL. I take the reason England incident wasn't worse that it was, was probably due to the risk of getting caught and possibly a certain degree of security, awareness, and paranoia about terrorism... It's clear that resources are wearing thin for terrorists in the US and to a lesser degree Europe with respect to suspects getting locked up / deported, confiscations, going after money supplies, surveillance, etc..

In Australia we have been shocked by the events in London. There are around 300000 Australian's in the UK. 7 Australian have injured, one critically so.

I hate it when something like this happens. But it's not a suprise (for me at least). But, of course, it's terrible
MonkeyWrench
it sickens me, wouldnt of happened if we didnt let in all those immigrants. i am thinking of moving to portugal, way better than pathetic pakistan.

Did Al Qaeda even claim responsibility for the attacks?

If Al Qaeda is to blame, do they actually think that Britian is going to back out from the war in Iraq? I understand that Spain did, but I don't think Britain is going to. If anything Britain will up the involvement in the war on terrosim.
If the terrorists goal was to make Britain retract, there plan is certainly going to backfire.

Tony Blair has been getting alot of negative press for his involvment with the U.S. and the war on terror. I wonder if these bombings may change some of the opinons:?:

I live in england in london. I think that 152 people were killed and the same amount injured. The people know who did the bombings now and i think it is silly. What is the point when you are going to get killed. You aren't going to see the result are you? But why do you want to do such a thimg. So much people dead. And even if they had lived the police would have caught up with them in the next couple of days or so. If you look at it there is something bad on bothsides. Death or jail. Neither is welcoming! I think that no one should pay recognition to those sick people. What should the get recognised for. Blowing up a qaurter of london! And i dont think it was al qaueda directly but a group that supports it.

yes let's give them ideas lol
Seriously, I think the terrorists are acting in desperation. It's sad they have to kill themselves for Allah. I am very aware that their actions give Islam a bad name and that other muslims are ashamed. However, I think the biggest help would be for the Muslim community to take action againt the people they claim to be ashamed of.
