Interesting Portfolio Layouts

I am currently in the process of building my own portfolio site at http://bubinski.frih.net.

I am looking for the "best" way to display my work under the portfolio section with a relatively simple graphic layout.

What are your experiences with portfolios, and what are some of the existing coding solutions/methods for displaying thumbnails and larger images such as high res photographs. Would JavaScript be the route to go here? I'm open to anything.

Also, if you know of a great portfolio website, please post the link. I'd like to know my options before I begin designing.

To create proper thumbnails (yes, thumbnails can be done using javascript but for both load times and appearance its a rubbish way to do it), i suggest using imageMagick - it resizes the images before the page is sent, and it does it beautifully

I like to use a nifty little Javascript for my photos. I upload and display the thumbnails, and then, onclick, open the full size images ina popup window... fast. Let me know if you're interested...

there's an ajax gallery that will do a on page pop-up sort of thing. you might want to do a search on google for it, it's reealllly nice.

hmm the XML and CSS validator for your site isnt giving you the full points! look that over.
