Handling Css using Javascript

I want to know how to controll css properties using javascript.
like
if I have to css file for different look of web page and i want to change the look of the page just when user click on a text. what should i do then ?

or i want to change the look of backgroungd, text colour, a, a:hover , alinked , ul etc . just on one click. what code sholud i insert.
