who is the best soccer midfield player ?

nappa
In my openion midfield is the most important position. Because this position control the style of the game. I think David Beckham is the best in this position as well.
Jurado
Dunno if you can mention Beckham. Ronaldinho, Gerrard, Lampard, Ballack have more value then Beckham. But the most important position is the Def Midfielder. No good def mid and you will lose. So I nominate Makelele . Attacking mid you can find a lot, but quality def mid are hard to find.

Well, defenitilly Ronaldinho (no!! he isn't striker) - he has the speed, the shots, the game view.
he has evertything, wonderfull player.

Wow, a tough one. There are a lot of good midfielders out there. But if I have to choose the BEST among them, it is going to be Steven Gerrard (Because I'm a Liverpool fans). No doubt, Ronaldiho can do magic with his feet, show off to the defenders with his beautiful footwork. But Gerrard is the man. Althuogh he does't do any fancy footwork, he can revive his team in the most deperating time. In the 2004-05 EUFA Cup, he led Liverpool to succeed a miraculous come back after losing 3 goals to AC Milan; in the last FA Cup, he scored an important goal that helped Liverpool to tie the score and got into extra time. Even in the last match between England and Sweden, he kicked the ball from sweden just right in front of the goal and he made a header to give England the lead no long after that. He is a true leader, he can bring miracle to his team and that's why he is the best.

My vote goes to Ronaldinho.

midfield?? tough.. i'd rather answer who is the best defender.. i think i'll have no opposition: ayala. he's a wall with no doors. i also like heinze... but ayala is definetly the best. i've seen no other of any country or team who can match him.
selim06
I think Ronaldinho for offensive game and Patrick Vieira for defensive game..Actually the middlefield seperates two different types.: Defensive Midfielder and Attacking Midfielder.. so I think both players is the best in their position.
Hoogeveense RAT
Frank Lampard is the best midfielder, or maybe Steven Gerrard.
houyin
Gerrard did well in both Liverpool Club and England National team.
I think his is the best !!!

After watching the germany - argentina game and the france - brazil game. i have to say zidane is the best. followed by riquelme. ballack really didnt do much in the germany argentina game. but if anyone watched the france game, zidane looked like a magician against their defense. i'm not much of a france fan but zidane is on a roll right now.

Its got to be Beckham although this World Cup didnt see all of his brilliance apart from the free kick against Equador.
ncwdavid
Hey, Beckham is nowhere near the best midfield player in the world. He plays on the right wing which is a very important position because you have to give the team width but he does not have the pace or the skill to run past players or worry the defence. The only thing he can do is cross the ball and he does it extremely well.

In my opinion defensive midfielder is the most important position. The def midfielder has to control the pace of the game,he gives the other midfielders more freedom and he has to be a strong figure with alot of determination. If you look at the best def midfielders in the world like Roy Keane, claude Makele and Patrick Vieira they all have those quailtities and beckham does not.

David Beckham is.you can't know how great he is until you watch his game.

hey stinger did you watch the germany-italy game? where was ballack? no offense to you or german fans ( i wanted them to win also) but ballack was nowhere to be found in that game which is why he isnt even close to being the best midfielder. he rates close to number 5 or below. i think the best right now is zidane. he's old but he still got what it takes. also totti seems to be playing well. the best players always take their team to the end. and so far zidane has been carrying the french.

Yeah sure, I saw that just too clearly and my eyes are burning Rolling Eyes

gerrard because he is so versatile. he can play attacking midfield, on the left, on the right, and he has sexy long shots.
CBear
Absolutely Zidane.
CBear
Gerrard and Lampard are both worthless. The only things Gerrard can do is headshot and longshot, he can't do organisation work: actually Liverpool is organised by Luis Garcia etc. And so can't Lampard, the core midfield player in attacking in Chelsea is Makelele. And Beckham has only half a foot to play. No wonder England is kicked out
CBear
As to Brazilian players, Kaka's performance is just OKay, but he is not so creative. Ronaldinho is bad, I think he is too tired after a season in Barcelona. And he is not like Zidane, he doesn't know how to organize. Once his tricks were well studied, he would lose his threats. Others like Emerson and G. Silva are actually defenders, they do not know how to attack.
CBear
The Italian is a cheap team. God is unfair to pick it for the final, it doesn't deserve it. Totti is a guy who only knows to spit on others when he plays bad. Gattuso has no technique. Pirlo is OK, but its forwards are all silly. The key goals, out of luck, are kicked by its defenders, grosso and zambrotta, irrelevant of its forwards. And its defence is merely lucky to be free of suffering any goals. Viva la France! I hope France can beat Italy otherwise its totally unfair.
bugra9
Absolutely Kaka and Ronaldinho.

I'd have to sau ZIdane was the best in recent history. He had great skill on the ball and great vision. But now that he has retired, lets see... I think Gerrard has great results. Personally I don't like English clubs. But I have seen Gerard play crucial parts in games again and again. When there seems to be no hope he always works something out. He really inspires his team to keep trying. And the finest example is the Liverpool-Ac Milan final.

Ronaldinho plays more on the left wing than midfield. That is where he does his magic best. But he does move around on the field a lot. Above all he is a delight to watch on the field. Always with a smile on his face.

I think Ballack is noting more than just hype. I have not once seen him play a great game in recent hustory. But people and news agancies talk of him as if he is sooo great. I don't see any greatness in him. The same goes for Beckham. He does have a killer freekick. No one sends off a long ball better than him, which he does with pin point accuracy. But he does not have the depth of vision to control a game. Nor does he have the personality to inspire a team.

To summarise, I would say Gerrard is one of the finest midfielders playing today.
tkcy
Attacking creative midfielder, the midfield magician, i would say its got to be Zidane, followed by ronaldihno, Kaka and Leo Messi.

All rounded midfielder, my vote goes to Frank Lampard, Steven Gerard and Patrick Viera.

Defensive midfield, well, Makelele is one of the finest in this position, Emerson is pretty good and yes, Gattuso for Ac Milan and Italy.

Guys, I really think that you shouldn't judge players like Lampard and Gerard from their performances in the world cup. Cos i really feel that the real reason why they can play up to their potential is because of Ericksson's silly tactics. To be honest, I really feel that its Ericksson that screw up England in this world cup. What do u guys think? Cheers! Wink

I thought David Beckham was a forward?... but I agree that he has one hell of a long kick.

good day everyone.
for me the best midfielder would
be my one and only inspiration
ZINEDINE ZIDANE

I think he is the most skillful
midfielder i've ever known,
i know a lot of people would agree to
my opinion. because eventhough it's just
an opinion, you can really see that he is
the best midfielde ever..

A living LEGEND. a very skillful
athlete. Simple. yet has a
very good leadership..

Eventhough of his acts during the FIFA
worldcup 2006, that he head-butted mazzerati
in the chest, i think, he has
enough reason to himself
why he do it, Zinedine Zidane is a good man
he will not head-butt mazzeratti if
mazzeratti has done anything wrong,
or say things that are against
Zidane.

I HOPE you like ZINEDINE ZIDANE.
Thank you for his contributions
FRANCE were the FIFA WORLDCUP
CHAMPIONS in 1998

I can kind of agree that midfield is the most important position in soccer I say that because I think all positions are just as important but I can see why you would say that. I do not agree, however, that beckham is the best at this position. First of all I think Beckham is TOOOO over rated (the only reason people think he's all that is because of publicity: he married a spicegirl, had a movie named after him, which was pretty lame by the way.... yadiyadiya), and in my opinion anyone who says Beckham is all that obviously does not know much or ANYTHING about soccer, well--European soccer at least. If one of those apply to YOU then you also obviously like to follow the crowd..... Beckham IS good, but, he is not that good. If you are still convinced that he is that good you may be suffering from denial. Dr. Pro7 suggests that you watch some international soccer and find out for yourself. You'll then notice that Beckham is not the only soccer player alive, and that other players actually do exist. Let me point a few out:

Pavel Nedved
Luis Figo
Diego Maradona (also attacker, retired for those who dont know)
Zinedine Zidane (also retired)
Michael Ballack
Rivaldo
Ronaldinho (attackive mid)

I'm not trying to insult anyone but being that soccer fan I am I just want those who dont know about the sport to learn more by watching. Now, if you DO watch a lot soccer, know the sport very well, also know a lot about european soccer and still in your own opinion think that Beckham is the best player in this position you may ignore anything said above because it does not apply to you.... Smile
clowdiaa
just cuz im an evertonian doesnt mean nothing, when i say this.

arteta. hes amazing and really holds the midfield well.
magneto_ms
Zinedine Yazid Zidane in my opinion. Man that guy could do nything withe the football.
GoDHiM
the best midfield player is Ronaldinho, without doubts...he is going to win everything, because he's too young, and he does incredible things with the ball...
-C4-
Lampard or Gerrard, just they are simply the best midfields there are today.
sbel
Gerrard's distant goals can be a shocker at times. But that's just about it. You can't deny he is indeed world class. But if you're looking at flare and god given talent ... it's gotta be Ronaldinho. But he can be slower than most midfielders at times.
Beckham is a passing fancy. Though he still has the best D-kicks to date.

Mikel is one the numerous midfielders at Chelsea, not Manchester United. A big row about it back then, which ment that Chelsea had to pay both his team as Man United to get him. Good talent though like you said.

Zidane or Ronaldinho if he plays midfielder.. =)

I vote for Lampard. He is great and Exclamation thinking Exclamation mid-player.

I like Gerrard too. I agree he has great leadership. He does inspire the whole team to play harder.

But I am kinda getting bored of hearing how Liverpool won against AC Milan by coming from behind. True, they won that match in a most dramatic way. But other than that, Liverpool really doesn't have that same form. Especially domestically. When great teams in the Premiership is being discussed, it is always Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea that are talked about. After that a mention might be made of Liverpool, New Castle and such. That's all.
