Taekwando

Guyon
Taekwando Rocks! You can do Forms, Sparing, self-defense, weapons, and a lot more....

Not only do you learn about the martial arts of taekwando, but you get a Lot of excersize if you work at it

You also earn belts and go up to new levels and learn new things....
The belts are:
White
Orange
Yellow
Camoflauge
Purple
Blue
Brown Recommended
Brown
Red Recommended
Red
Black Recommended
Black
And for black you go up to degrees........ such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and when you die, if you make it up to there you will be 10th. It seems easy, and quick but it isn't. It has taken me OVER 5 and a half years to make it to 2nd Degree black belt desided

The most common weapons are:
Jahng Bong= a Large stick
Bahng Mahng Ee= small stick

and I still Need to Improve this......... IMPROVING AND ADDING NEW STUFF LATER

i was planning to go serious on my tae kwon do lessons for a very long time but since i can only practice 2 times a week (3 hours/day) i didnt really continue my classes. my friends practice almost daily and this discourages me a lot since at this rate its almost impossible to catch up with them.

since you're a blackbelt and all any tips on how to maximize my learning in such a limited time??

come on .. answer him ..
5 years to take a black belt is almost two quick, actually it depopends on how hard the examinartors are, when I was in Morocco, I was in the bigest club oof the capital city, and the examinators were coreans who could spek some arabic, my god they ewere good....
And hey Tae-Kywon-Do is ideal, if you have enough time, you'll become extremely quick, agile, able to defend yourself, work out like crazy, discipliend (this is no asian respect bullsh**, ztthisis real) and even get just enough öuscle to have a balanced body, not like thjose mister muscles that you can take down with low and high kicks in 5 Minutes if you know how to ömeke them dead tired...

Tae-Kwon-Do rocks!!!

I once saw a tournament that was open to all martial artists. There were: Judo, karateDo, TaeKwonDo, Ju-jitsu, Kick-boxing etc..
The matches were really awesome, since all the participants were blackbelts in their respective martial arts.
When the TaeKwonDo vs KarateDo match came, i was shocked to see the TaeKwonDo player flying (revolving action) on the air by just a sweep of a KarateDo player. I don't know how did the karateman made the TaeKwonDo player flying in the air in just a sweep of his legs with the coordination of his arms... But
As far as i could remember, the Taek-player was delivering a combination of bullet kicks and some other kicks to the karate-freak, when the latter had countered those with his wierd grap and sweep..

In TaekWonDo vs Judo...
The judo-man couldn't penetrate the taek-man easily coz the latter were quick to gave his job kicks with back kicks, until time came that the judo-man had caught the hem of taek-man's costume and the taek-man was thrown immediately, pinned-down and was locked on the floor...

Yet, i still like the TaekWonDo's art of kickings. TaeKwonDo rocks! Very Happy

These type of tournaments are mostly exhibitions, where fighters are using techniques they would never use normally in a regular tournament. Its like in the movies, do you think that someone would go with fancy circle kicks in a tournament, not likely, its not effective and way too slow. Smile

I just got my black belt recently and it took me almost 8 years. I find those 5 years he mentioned way too quick too, but who knows.

It doesn't depend on a county but a federation, there are more taekwon-do branches out there.

I really doubt that any sport when training properly will get you broken ribs. Smile The hardest thing was actually not to quit up first 2 years after that you will either get hooked or you will quit knowing its not for you.

Even thou there are accidents happening at the tournaments, at last tournament a friend of mine got her hand broken in final fight and she ended up 2nd maybe if this accident didn't happen she could've win.

Taekwando is very good sport to practice only for the sake of physical fitness and health. If one has to master and make money - use it for a living it will be tough. Sometimes, the problem with this kind of art is that the guys who learn became very short tempered due to the confidence they gain during the process. But the often fall when brickbats are thrown to them or someone stone them... Very Happy

I sure am not short tempered and neither am i a guy. Smile But i can assure you that most of the short tempered thugs you meet at some club or party are just thugs that may know a move or two but thats where their Taekwon-do skill ends. Wink Most of the guys that i know from Taekwon-do are just ordinary guys, you would never tell they have a black belt for sure.

And doing Taekwon-do for living, hmm i can't even imagine that, maybe in USA but sure not here. Wink

After several weeks i went to our 'dojang' last night to train. It was just for 2.5 hours & this morning when i woke up my legs hurt like hell! i literally had to drag myself to the office today. LOL

Ya, i think the sport is very good. it helps you in life. Both phisically and mentally. I got to yellow belt but i gave up because i was in with only a few people older than me and much more who were younger than me. it became boring and effortlessl. Nobody in the class was serious. I regret not doing it now.. I know a guy who is a black belt and did his final exam while STONED. OMG

Thats the tax you have to pay for skipping out trainings, will remind you to not to do it again. Smile

I started to train Taekwon-do when i was 20 so i wasn't young either and yep there were many younger people around with higher ranks but i wasn't there just couse i want to get high rank as fast as possible, i was there couse i wanted to train Taekwon-do, relax and have fun, rank was just something that came with it.

Guess what most of the people that trained there when i started never made it to 1st Dan i even know some with 1st Gup that were just one step away but gave up instead. Mainly those that started at younger age, couse during that years there are many life altering situations, so they had to quit for various reasons like they went to college or they started to work and there was no spare time left for trainings, etc.

Seems that you got the math skills, however i can be 27 years old, since in the second quote i said ALMOST 8 years. But truth is i am 28. Smile

I will think about it seriously.

I haven't done Taekwondo since I was about 12, but I definitely have some fond memories. A lot more defensive and dextrous than offensive, but that's what the point of this martial art is. Really technical and smooth, that's what I love about it.
SimonWSTS
I live in the England and I attend Taekwondo classes twice a week, it's great fun and great for your fitness.

Looking at the original post of this topic I'm confused though as we have different belts!?

Our belts go in this order:

White Belt
Yellow Tag (yellow stripe on white belt)
Yellow Belt
Green Tag (green stripe on yellow belt)
Green Belt
Blue Tag
Blue Belt
Red Tag
Red Belt
Black Tag
1st Dan (degree) Black Belt
(obviously then there are the further black belt degrees)

Then go & take your *balls* and post somewhere else!

In our dojang we dont have Green belts. But after Red there's Brown.

You probably meant Yeop Chagi which is a side kick in taekwon do, Dulyo Chagi isnt really a technique or kick, maybe you meant Dollyo Chagi which at the other hand is a round kick. Now you got me confused Smile

Anyway best way to train kicks is basically doing 2 things and that is stretching and kicking Smile Surprising isnt it? Stretching to just for the sinews to get used to it and kicking for the rest. Maybe this is dissapointing but there really is nothing more to a good kick technique. Wink

PS.: Sorry that i didn't answer sooner but i left this forum around 9 months ago and just now was i able to get back and get rolling again. Wink
