Need help with subdomains of my hosting account!

SpellcasterDX
I'm on DA, for the record.
How do I change it so that I can make a subdomain replace the url of my frihost domain (sdx.frih.net/index.php)?
What I want, is: to make http://boards.sdx.frih.net/index.php
be the url of my message boards, instead of http://sdx.frih.net/index.php being the url. How do I change directories or whatever to make boards.sdx.frih.net/index.php lead to the boards and make sdx.frih.net lead to my main site?

Ahh, I knew there'd be a problem placing the forum here somewhere along the line.
You may be able to create a simple forward, however, this will mean that you can have no index page so this cannot be an option.
The only thing you can do is....

  • You first have to create a subdomain, name it boards.
  • A folder named boards will now be in your public_html directory. You have to now move all of the forum files into the "boards" folder.
  • I cannot remember a lot about the forum sofware you are using, but I'm almost certain that it will now not work. You will have to download the forum database and search the file for "/" or "sdx.frih.net" or "sdx.frih.net/" or "sdx.frih.net/index.php" or any other combination that has "http://" or "http://www." in front of it. When you find it you will have to change it to its new location. You could do this through phpMyAdmin but I personally find it much easier looking at it in a file on my PC.
  • You may also have to edit the config.php file to represent the new location (the forum that your using doesn't have this exact name but it is however similiar).

I think thats it. PM me if you need help. And I don't have your hosting details on file now so if you need me to access your account you will have to re-send them me.

That's the part I don't get. What do you mean there?

The location of your forum installation should be located in your database. If it is then it will not work until the location (www.sdx.frih.net/index.php) is change changed to the new location (www.boards.sdx.frih.net/index.php). To do this you should download the database and find where it says your forum is installed and change it to the new location. Does that clear it up ?

Ah, ok. How do I change it to the new location? And where in the database? In one of the tables?
wumingsden
The database is located in your DA under MySQL Management. Login to phpMyAdmin at http://216.32.85.170/phpmyadmin Then click "Export" on the main screen and choose your forum database and download it. Check this file for the olf forum location and change it to the new fourm location. You can also search for it through phpMyAdmin although I recommend downloading the file.

try renaming your subdoain to be subset of your reqired sub domain,
furthe you can manage the url using the directory scheme for the resource classification.
