I have a nasty problem on my forum.
One of the registered users (who i banned now) wrote ugly things about me and others.
I have his email and ip address and I know it is someone from my neighbourhood as he knows a lot.
Is there a way to know who this person is by his email or ip adress.

The only way to do it would be to ask his ISP for details. However, they are HIGHLY unlikely to do that.
Anononymity is both the beauty and the downfall of the internet.

It's about your country's laws..In Turkiye We can learn it by petition.But you can learn the city..So the names are really hard!No advise ? ? ?

For the IP address... You could do a whois lookup on the IP address... A typical whois output would be something like:

And as for the e-mail address, you could do a finger lookup on the user@host
A typical finger output should be something like this:

Note: this is a local finger lookup
Although I doubt that you could finger a user@host because most probably, finger connections to remote hosts are blocked.
The whois lookup would be very useful though. It'll tell you the "owner" of the IP address or IP block.

bro it is difficult especially becaues changing of 3 last nubmers of Ip and email very hard....in one my translation of phpbb forum says:
you can't ban him permanently,he will always come and spam....

but that kind of people is better to ignore.Because then they wiill faster leave.If you try to stop them in evertythign they will try with all forces to do by theirs. rafifaisal, just find his ISP and call them.
With some simple social engineering, you can easily find his phone number or even the address.
With social engineering it's also possible to close his connection(at least temporarily).
Social engineering is definitely the future.
