What is the fastest you ever driven?
The fastest i have driven myself is 215 km/h!
But i wondered how fast others have driven in their life!
But i wondered how fast others have driven in their life!
This is for anybody here who visits the USA or lives there. Just watch out for the cops, but if you get on a 50mph stretch of highway thats 8-lanes wide and straight for 4-miles dont stick to 50, your car needs a blow out, just rag it down that stretch! I mean cmon the limits over there are stupid, 50mph on a highway with 8-lanes and not a curve for 4-miles!!!! You can get to optimum speed on there.
On a Hayabusa on closed track: A bit below 290kph - 288-289, measured by GPS.
On the road, it's relatively rare that I'll go above 200kph (there's a limit of 130kph here, anyway). When I have, my own bikes - a Ducati S4R and an R6 - have been 238 and 250kph respectively in perfect conditions, corrected for speedo inaccuracy (246 and 257 on the speedo). Both seemed like they had a bit more in them, though
And 276 on an R1 on the road.
But I'm more a sucker for accelleration/torque than speed

Mmm, 'busa...
I've only been on a closed track 1/4 mile at a time, but I've had my share of 175mph+ trips up a few roads here in San Diego on a couple different bikes, my brother's GSXR and my TL1000. Speeds were as read from the speedo, so error may be a small factor. It's amazing how stable the current bikes are at those speeds. But heaven forbid if you hit a squirrel or cat or something. (I exclude anything larger because if you hit that, it's GAME OVER.)
To be honest, once you get past 130+mph, it's not that much different. The sensations of speed slow down (or at least did for me). And yes, the accelleration/cornering is much more fun that straight up speed.

Though I am not proud of this, because it is dangerous and stupid, but once while on the highway in Ontario and I was younger I noticed the highway had barely any cars on it. "It's a good time to see how fast my car can go!", I thought...lol
My car by the way was my parent's 2000 Chrysler Intrepid.....
So I floored it and kept going until it woul'nt speed up anymore.. Stopped accelerating a 190 km\h...

You're not alone. Below 120kph, I've developed a bad tendency to think I'm going at around 60. "Speed tolerance" build up, I guess

Yeah, it is dangerous and stupid - very much so - but then, most guys tend to be dangerous and stupid

True, true and true. I concur on all accounts.
100 - 120 m/h (160 - 190 km/h) with renault 19
~120 MPH in a 1999 Cadillac DeVille.
My dad did 183 km/h which drinking a cup of coffe
, 220 km/h with my grandma in the passenger seat and 247 km/h on the German autobahn. The most I've done is a shameful 120 km/h although a more surprising speed on my bike (pushbike, you know with pedals) is 82 km/h which was 12 km/h over the speed limit

Around 225 MPH. Flat and straight of course. Supercharger with a huge scoop and about $15K of engine and drive train under it. 68 Camaro SS built to race.
Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9
hit 135 mph but the car was rattling
My truck is geared too low, it tops out at 110-115.
I wouldn't be surprised, however if that is the off-road speed record here. (Yes, I have done 100+ without the benifit of a road.)

LoL.
The aero-dynamics on a '68 wouldn't allow you to go over 175ish or you'd be 'sailing the seas of cheese'.
Perhaps you replaced the body and suspension too, eh?

Did 235kph years ago for about 20 minutes. Surprised the car didn't blow up.

I am just saying what the speedometer said.
I do not know what was all done to it. Not my car. But the speedometer was hovering in no mans land. Beyond the 210 top number.
This car had a lot of work done to it. I think the only thing stock was the body and some of the interior.

the fastest is i drove was 245km/h in an bmw x5 4.4l V8 and i can assure you thats real fast
i must say it was really cool to do once but i don't think i do it twice
125 MPH plus or minus 5mph
A 68 delmont 88 that belonged to my mum. The ride was nice and stable but the speedometer was jumping all over the place. Only reason I slowed down was I passed a lady in a mustang doing 100 and it we played tag for awhile...Ah to be young again

LMAO!
Perhaps you scared yourself and couldn't read the speedo??????
The speedo on a 1968 Camaro only reads up to ONE HUNDRED TWENTY mph, not TWO HUNDRED TWENTY mph..

You are trying way to hard to impeach something that you have no clue about. Jumping to conclusions like a child.
How the hell do you know what kind of equipment the car had?
But I guess you are all knowing and too good to ask questions to find out what you are talking about.
The Speedo that was in it went to 220. If the original speedo only went to 120, then I guess it wasn't the original speedo.
I learn new things every day. You should try it.
Because you have no clue what the car had in it or what parts were original. But you sure as hell do like to act like it.
So why don't you cool your jets.
BTW, the speddometer didn't look anything like that. It also had a boost meter on it and something else I can't remember what.
Nice try but you are just wrong.

I'd love to break 200mph... unfortunately I don't a supercar or an air strip hahah
I have never flown. except in a chopper.

I had a 97 trans am and found a guy who happened to be driving the same way on a toll highway in a 97 Z28.
so same car, different panels... and neither of us had been over 120k
so we took it to the speed limiter him watching the front and myself watching the back for cops.
it is pretty awakening when you pass someone you know is doing 120 but it is as if they are standing still...
and you hope like heck they dont change lanes cause there is no stopping.
pretty dumb but I am mature now LOL
see the new laws in Toronto and the recently crushed cars?

135mph about 2 mins before my car's engine blew up... some part of the piston rod flew out the engine block and almost hit the guy behind me. Another bit got lodged in the exhaust manifold... then I was stuck 20 miles from shade, 11am, just starting to get hot... with like 10% humidity... then I started pushing... got a mile, then decided to walk.
A state policeman gave me a ride... we didn't talk much.
Teaches me to speed with that oil light on.

I've done 142 mph in my car, so that's the selection i used on the poll, but i've been riding in an RX-7 doing 181 mph. It's scary knowing that if you hit even a small bump you could catch air and flip, but the adrenaline rush was just flat out amazing. 142 mph is what I went to when I shut down, I don't know how much faster it could have gone, but it would have taken quite a bit further than I had to find out. Corners ahead when trying to slow down from 140 mph in a 30 mph zone is stupid.

I love those good old GTI's!
most i have ever driven my car is 142 mph in my Nissan Silvia S12 (200sx USA) here it a little pic of my baby
Sorry for the large pics
Just rebuilt her and now on the road again. Also have a landrover Defender but that only goes 70mph max lol

Way Back I did 125 Mph in my mustang. I guess it was the speed but it felt like my car just went to sleep after that, the top speed is governed. When i hit 125 I could feel my car hugging the road and my engine was only doing like 3500 RPM. I had great gas mileage on that tankfull though.
two things.
One : I messed up the poll because I thought it was about km/h. So now I am one of the 4 people who did more than 160m/h but actually I ment more than 160 km/h.
Two : I did it on my bike 10 years ago. It was a Kawasaki ZZR 1100. Late night, the road was open and there was no other soul. I thought that was the moment to look how fast the ZZR could go. But at 180 km/h I was thinking "What if there is an animal on the roud ? What would happen with me ?"
I slowed down and came home safely.

I went to like 80mph passing someone on the hightway. Yeah, I'm an exciting driver. Hey, I had a learner's permit and my dad in the car, okay? (2003 Chrysler Sebring)
I've ridden with my brother in his 2000 Mustang GT a few times. It had some work done before he bought it, so it was a little faster then stock. Probably about 320hp. We got up to 135mph, though he says he's gone faster while alone.

280kph on a suzuki gsxr 1000
I voted 190 - 225 km/h.
I have been driving ~200km/h a few times. Since I have a turbo charging 1,3 bar I have a lot of power even then, and going faster would not be a problem power or controll wise, but since I dont want to run my car with more than 5000RPM for several kilometers I usually dont go that fast.
I dont really get any thrill from driving very fast... anyone can push the throttle to the floor... it´s when it comes to cornering and accelerating hard you can proove your skills.

Me too, between 190 and 225. Once I was testing a new Skoda Superb 2.5 TDI 155HP. It was out of town in Poland. I thought I was driving about 120, but when I looked at the odometer, it was slightly over 200 on a 5th gear! (the gearbox had 6 of them) Great car, anyway. Try if you could.
Repost
Fastest I've ever driven was about 200 km/h on my old 1999 Kawasaki EX250 Ninja at Mosport International Speedway. Yeah, it was a 250, and that's pretty much top speed. It had an aftermarket airfilter, stage 3 jets, and a 2-into1 Muzzy system, so the thng could boot pretty well for what it was.
Still kinda regret selling the thing, as it was a load of fun, but I have a car now, and am much more happier in the winter weather.
Still kinda regret selling the thing, as it was a load of fun, but I have a car now, and am much more happier in the winter weather.
The fastest I have driven a car was 140mph (225km/h) in a 1970 Pontiac Firebird with a big block 400. That was read from the factory 160mph speedometer, with about 1-inch of pedal left. I didn't feel safe beyond that because I knew I was missing a lugnut, and later found I was missing two on the same wheel!.
The fastest I have ever been was on a 2004 Kawasaki Ninja 636. I made 151mp/h (243km/h). That was read on the factory digital speedometer. The top speed is listed at 160mp/h, and it probably could have done it had the tires been touching the ground more often. I sold that bike after one year per my worried wife's request.
I am currently building a 1968 Chevy Camaro pro-touring car with a 6-speed and 450 horsepower. The gearing will allow over 200mp/h, but I suspect it will come off the ground long before that without some extensive aerodynamics. 450hp probably isn't enough to go that fast anyway. So far I have had it to 125mp/h with 300hp and a 4-speed trans, and it was maxed out (rpm not power).
By the way, the Camaro has a General Motors 160mp/h speedo that I found at a swap meet. I think they came in some models, but not sure which.
As you might have guessed, I am a risk taker. If you don't have unlimited funds to build a "safe" ride, you often develope a higher tolerence for risk. That being said, I am fully aware that my life has been in danger many times. HOWEVER, I have always done my speed runs with no passengers, and nobody on the road. It is not acceptable to risk the lives of others based on my own need for speed.

Crashing at that speed is even worse, trust me
Some thrills are just worth the extra risk.
135mph around a super tight corner in a 1991 Dodge Stealth Road Track Twin Turbo Race Edition ( only 12 in existance ). Very scary. A night in Maine, where a moose could walk out from no where.
But, airspeed, that's a different story. I've done 550mph in a plane.

1026 Km/h in a plane (637 mph). But honestly there is nothing special about those airspeeds. Just about everyone who has flown somewhere in a jet has gone that fast. Hell right now I'm doing about 1,660 kph just sitting here at home rotating with the earth.
But back on topic I get my license on the 6th of March and I got my first car last week with a claimed top speed of 240 km/h or something. But I'm so scared of dying or getting a speeding fine the most I'll do is about 120 which I've already done in it with dad next to me.
With my 1.6 corolla `02 on a highway 215km.

Not only would that be the fastest 68 Camaro in the world, but it would be defying physics. That supercharger would limit your top end so much you wouldn't even come close to those speeds. And if, by some miracle, you had hurricane force windws right on your tail, the car would shake apart and the tires would explode.
What exactly was this camaro built to race in? With a top speed like that, it wasn't built for the drag strip. And I can probably think of a million other cars I would put on a track before a 68 Camaro. (don't get me wrong, one of my favorite cars, it's just not a race car.)
I've done about 160MPH on the highway, would go more but my car cant go any further without shaking and I really dont think it can go any faster without blowing up lol
Most i've had was 210 km/h with my Fiat Stilo on Germans Highway between Stuttgart and Hamburg. I tested what my car can. At that time my hands shake and i got fear but i was so excited
I am still working on the Pro-Touring 68 Camaro. The new engine turned out slightly better than expected, at 460 hp. With the 6-speed transmission, I have been getting about 21 mpg (when not making high speed runs). I have now had the car to 145 mph, and that was in 5th gear! This was mearured on a new Auto-Meter 200 mph electric speedometer. The car seemed really floaty at that speed, so I called it good for now. I need to reconfigure the rear suspension before making any more runs. I will probably change the gearing in the rear end to make 6th gear more useable while I'm at it.
Just somewhere between 140 - 160 m/h (225 - 260 km/h). My car cant go any faster and then theres not too much space to drive, too much potholes and police around.
My highest speed is 70Km/hr on High way only
The fastest that I've ever driven is 115 m/h (185 km/h). It's pretty fast... but not as fast as some other people have driven.
Where do you live? In the U.S. you'd get pulled over for driving that slow. Driving that slow is dangerous, considering that everyone else around you is going almost twice as fast. Our speed limit on most highways is 65 m/h (105 km/h), but most people go around 80 m/h (129 k/h)... some even go faster.

A friend of mine just got a new Dodge Charger and took me out for a ride in it. Man that thing hauls! I didn't time it, but it only took us to the end of a highway's on-ramp to get up to 100M/H. We went a mile or two up the road to get away from some cars and then he took it up to about 142M/H. So, I guess the fastest I've ever been in a car is 142
ide say around 500mph.....in a jet haha
..on the road here the most 120mph..mazda 6 rental car
In a car only about 115 mph in a 70's Lotus.
On a bike 150 mph on a Suzuki GSX 1100
On a bike 150 mph on a Suzuki GSX 1100
180 km/h on a freeway- max
The fastest I've ever driven is probably about 90 mph. I'm not really one to intentionally break the speed limit or bother taking my car to a track to drive. It's just that on I-95 no one really pays attention to the speed limit anyways and I wanted to pass a truck. I didn't even know the minivan could hit 90. I was impressed with the girl.
I drove my honda accord coupe at speed of 120m/h one time when I raced with a honda civic, I think I can go faster than that but i don't want to kill myself.
Fastest I ever drove was in a 1970 Pontiac GTO, had a Ram Air IV 400 Cubic Inch Engine, 6.6 Litre for the euro crowd. Car was raging fast from 0 to 60, from about 40 miles an hour up to about 90 it felt like a turbo kicked in, even though it was a simple 4 barrel carb. Thing was at about 130 mph it hit it's trap speed and started floating. I had to let out of it because I was afraid of loosing control of the car. Wasn't very aerodynamic. The engine could have pulled the car a lot faster though.
I was young and dumb, could have killed myself in that old boat, but I had no fear. I've been faster in a 1992 ZR1 Corvette, but I wasn't driving, thing is that car hit about 160 mph and was smooth as silk down the road, just held to the pavement like glue. There is a lot to be said for aerodynamics eh?

I got a BMW up to 225 kph once. I wigged out before the car ran out of power! It was kind of scary!
178km/h is my fastest.
Would love to have the opportunity to do >200km/h but unfortunately those opportunities are few and far between

I've hit 122mph (198kph) personally. I had the opportunity a few months ago to take my truck down an airports 12,000 foot runway with a speed read positioned in the middle. Somewhere I have a video of that day. 97 Chevy 3/4 ton with a 5.7L Vortec V8. Those strait pipes were singing a wonderful song on that one.
Speedometer tops out at 100mph and that needle was buried. Didn't even have it fully floored at that point either. I've had it up to 95mph a few times on interstates and don't even mean too, such a smooth shift and ride it doesn't feel like your moving that fast.
One thing on US interstates is that no one goes the speed limit. A posted 65mph means the traffic is moving at 80-90mph

old land speed recorder . . . by Bluedoll
I was all alone on the road but wouldn't say what year. It was quiet, no around for miles, a really straight stretch so I put the pedal down. Bang, this old plymouth (an x police cruiser with a big engine) slammed into lower gear accelerated to where the telephone poles flew by the side window like they were resting on each other, then with a crash sound into high gear and still accelerating. Ease off on the petal just a bit, to take a quick look at the speedo that said 'registered' top speed 140mph, it showed one hundred and thirty-two and my eyes were right back on that middle line that was guiding me straight to the corner coming up far in the distance, couldn't do this forever and besides the steering wheel felt like it was ultra power steering and this was one heavy car. Funny thing was it wasn't really that exciting, it was rather comfortable and peaceful but didn't want it to get exciting, not at that speed, so I let the petal spring return and was surprised to see the corner coming up as fast as it was so pushed on the brake that felt strangely mushy, sped around that mild curve going faster than I would ever drive it and decided from that point on - a normal drive would suit me just fine!

"Those who have drove fast know that 150 mph is not as easy as it sounds - these guys (professionals) want to try to go up to 200 but that may or may not happen.
They fixed the body so that at 150 miles per hour, the rear window doesn’t blow out and the roof fly completely off."

Last day I drive my maruthi wagnor at 70 km/hr in airport road. Even though it is not the top speed, to me it is a great speed

Both seemed like they had a bit more in them, though But I'm more a sucker for accelleration/torque than speed |
WoooooooooooW
Thats Insane
Are you a test driver or a racer
We can never imagine those speeds at my country... Well. If I had a closed track and a good enough machine I could try
I've Only had my share just over 100kmph :9 its around 105kmph on a Bajaj Pulsar 180cc with a chick on as my pillion. It was on a open road with other vehicles coming both ways. Pretty stupid eh
Low to try the 200kmph mark with on a 4 wheel ( I mean not a bike, but a car or something)

most i have ever driven my car is 142 mph in my Nissan Silvia S12 (200sx USA) here it a little pic of my baby
Sorry for the large pics Just rebuilt her and now on the road again. Also have a landrover Defender but that only goes 70mph max lol |
Woah nice pics
I've gotten up to around 160kmh... not particularly fast, but fast enough, given the roads in this region. I live in a pretty rocky, hilly region, so straight stretches are generally less than a kilometer long, or else it's pretty likely that you'll encounter a cop. Speeding is likely to result in loss of control on a turn/hill or getting caught
