Copperplate Gothic Bold (with bold formatting on top) in size 12.
I've had it on my MSN since 2004 once I got my fonts settled down. Might just be me but I think it's great.

there are absolutly hundreds of sites out there that give away free fonts....try a google search and you may just be surprised, and the best part is the most of them are royalty free
check out the favorites on dafont.com and you should find some pretty nice stuff. or you can always make your 'own' fonts by taking some existing crap and running it through filters.
The first ever font you must install is Pristina (it's the font used for Frihost).
You can download it here - http://www.momscorner4kids.com/fonts/pfonts.htm

www.fontseek.com is also quite good.
My favourites would have to be 'Cezanne' (there's also a slightly bolder version called 'Hannibal Lecter'), 'Ardenwood Demo' and 'Starstruck'. Silkscreen is quite useful, too.
I also adore the ones which look like different languages: 'Nyet' (Russian themed), 'Pseudo Saudi' (Arabic) and 'Electroharmonix' (Japanese) are all good fun.

For those who hate truetype fonts, there's a very cool site with bitmap fonts.

I just have to say... WOW... I have a lot of fonts that I have gotten from various places on the web but I have never run across www.dafont.com before... I went and checked it out and have to agree that it is one of if not the best free font site I have ever encountered... and to think I was going to simply suggest doing a google search for free fonts... silly me... thanks again for the info on www.dafont.com it is an awesome site...
http://free-fonts.biz also has loads of fonts.
Having the right font for the occasion can greatly improve any graphics work; that's why I've accumulated a collection of over 1500 fonts.
If you want to get mine, just tell me by pm and I'll upload them to the internet so they can be downloaded.

Think the rule generally is non serif for headings and serif for text but people do not really stick to that any longer, except maybe the newspapers.
I like Verdana for spreadsheets and Websites. Size 10.
If you need very heavy headings such as for banners, perhaps Arial Black would work well, especially if you reverse it out and make it sharp. All of the Arials work well for Photoshop projects. In fact the more simple fonts with non serifs work better for me in Photoshop.
Recently I have got into Californian FB for writing of letters. Looks classy and stylish.
Calibri is so pretty. Size 8 or 9 though. It comes with Microsoft 2007 and I use it for text documents etc. more than on images but I love love it!
Rage Italic is great too. Vice City in GTA: Vice City is written in that font.
I use dafont!
A few personal favourites include:
Context Reprise - a full free family of fonts
SerpentineDBol - A good alternative to Square
Morpheus - An excellent old Gothic style font, but subsequently very overused.
Futura - Can't go wrong with it, really.
Digital Strip 2 - A fantastic alternative to the awful Comic Sans MS.
Trojan Pro - For that Roman style look.

As I do use Microsoft products, MS Office 2007 has a bunch of cool fonts including Calibri, which is my favorite font, at the moment! If you have Office 2007, you'll love that font.
I'm a Century Gothic man. Fits your postmodern typesetting needs well, it does...
I used the following fonts on my linux box:
ttf-dejavu
ttf-msfonts
ttf-mono

I'm just going to put another vote in for checking out dafont.com
