Apparently they also took a number of servers belongin to other companies, and they acted on request from US lobbyist groups. It smells like a big juridical scandal....I think some heads may roll after this..

According to Slyck.com, two personnel were arrested and all servers confiscated. A notice placed on the front page of ThePirateBay.org informs that a warrant was issued for all datacenters of Rix|Port 80, a Swedish IP transit operator, which hosted the site. Breach of copyright law is the alleged crime brought up against the virtual haven for those flying the Jolly Roger. According to a gloating MPAA, ThePirateBay.com "directs people to pirated moviesand music, making available over 157,000 illegal files including the latest blockbuster releases such as Da Vinci Code, Mission Impossible: III, and The Poseidon Adventure and many others." It reckons the "takedown" shows "a growing culture of respect for intellectual property in Sweden, which in July 2005 reformed its copyright law to address digital piracy." It says The Pirate Bay was the 479th most visited website in the world. A later story on Slyck claimed the shenaginans were a hoax. The original message is still on the site here, however. Traffic figures from Sweden show a big dip following the time of the alleged raids. |
