Please search the forums. This has been brought up again and again.

This is a pretty well-known problem that a lot of people solve by using Firefox. Others, who don't mind drinking the Kool-Aid, and are willing to go through the trouble, use a work-around called the Microsoft AlphaImageLoader filter that simulates the proper transparency using DirectX. PC Magazine has a good article on the subject.

As an alternative, use transparent .gifs instead of .pngs.

At least that's what most webmasters do (like on the Frihost website Wink).

IE7 will be out soon (hopefully) it adds support for displaying transparency in PNG's. Most people have automatic updates turned on for Windows XP so they will get it automatically.

As everyone else has said though you can't use them in IE6.

Yeah, it's a well-known bug in Internet Explorer. The solution is simple: Use a better browser, like Opera or Firefox Smile

This site explains how to do that quite well, it even has a Javascript file that you can attach to your HTML document that will solve the problem (I suppose it uses that filter thingy)

Anyway, it appears that even Microsoft's Knowledge Base has bugs:
