Looking for a free Email List Server/Service

I am looking for a way to support a group of volunteers.
We have 3 teams, 3 pairs of team leaders and weekend and midweek divisions.

I want to setup a set of recursive email lists, such that

We have a Master group "VOLUNTEERS"
which is composed of 2 groups
"WEEKEND" and "MIDWEEK",
both of these two groups are composed of 3 groups,
"RED", "GREEN", and "BLUE",
these being composed of people AND another group
"LEADERS",
which is composed of people.

In addition there are separate groups which are differenct groupings of some of the above groups:

VOLUNTEER LEADERS which is composed of the 2 groups
VOLUNTEER [WEEKEND|MIDWEEK] LEADERS

VOLUNTEER WEEKEND LEADERS
which is composed of 3 groups each
VOLUNTEER WEEKEND [RED|GREEN|BLUE] LEADERS (these exist above in the main structure)

VOLUNTEER MIDWEEK LEADERS
which is composed of 3 groups each
VOLUNTEER WEEKEND [RED|GREEN|BLUE] LEADERS (these exist above in the main structure)

The idea here is that people sign up to the deepest list for them, and then anyone mailing to
a superior list automatically get everyone below.....so

I can mail to
VOLUNTEERS and get everyone
VOLUNTEERS WEEKEND and get any weekend volunteer on the RED/GREEN/BLUE teams including their LEADERS
VOLUNTEERS WEEKEND RED and get every weekend volunteer on the RED team including the RED LEADERS
VOLUNTEERS WEEKEND RED LEADERS and get only the WEEKEND RED team LEADERS

Anyone know how I can get this done, free would be nice.

Or where can I get FREE MAJORDOMO2 or LISTSERV support.
Majordomo1 does not have the "set LIST nomail" command, so it isof no use.

I was thinking that.......

V would have 2 subscribers, VM and VW
VM would have 3 subscribers, VMR VMG and VMB
VW would have 3 subscribers, VWR VWG and VWB
VMR would have x subscribers, people and the subgroup VMRL
VMG would have x subscribers, people and the subgroup VMGL
VMB would have x subscribers, people and the subgroup VMBL
VMRL would have 2 subcribers, people
VMGL would have 2 subcribers, people
VMBL would have 2 subcribers, people
etc,etc

This type of setup would also be nice for org charts, etc.

Can this be done now somehow, or is this an improvement idea?

It seems that MAILMAN may do what I want with email lists. It has something called umbrella lists.

Does anyone know of a free webhost with mailman available?

I just found about list serv and I have no idea on how to use it or how to access it. Can someone give me some short summary or a link to a place that talks about list serv.

I know this post has gone far from its original form now, but I thought I'd chime in anyway. The kind of service you're looking for is called email listing. or listbuilding. A free one I've had some experience with is called SendFree. It works pretty much like you'd think: You enter people's email address (or even use a form to capture them) and then you specifiy what to send out and when.
