Who is responsible for the killings at Haditha?

diverden
The obvious answer is that the marines who acted on emotion and broke their standing orders did the actual killing but what about the ones who looked the other way, and did not voice concern until Time magazine broke the story. What about the officers and politicians who suspected and hoped it would go away. What about our illustrious president who took us there and the Congress that backed him. (Yeah I know it is not about oil, but funny that we aren't attacking dictatorships in Asia, Africa or Latin America.) What about the insurgents and the atmosphere of hate that seems to pervade Arab countries since we support Israel, promote Christianity, and seem to constantly poke them in the eye to see if they will bite. Axis of evil or the axis of ignorance, what a choice to make.

It must be dificult to moderate your thoughts in these situations, but, if you are are trained profesional you should be able to control yourself.

I think most people know that the news comming out of a war is almost never good. This being the case the time to avoid a war is before going into it.

Look at the sequence that brought us into the war.

Saddam has WMDS. We have the claim, but we have no evidence. Well, clearly, the action to take at this point is "no action". We have no evidence, therefore we cannot prove our claim.

The war dead, the Abu Grade disgrace, the billions spent, and now the Marines question ALL could have been completely avoided had we stayed on the American Road of being Innocent UNTIL proven guilty of ANY charge.

Who do I blame? I blame the people who turned the American Ship into a war that it had no legal right going to, that is who I blame?

Always? Isn't this just a blatant exaggeration of facts? This is the sort of hyperbole which people read and then just ignore any point you are trying to make (unless they already agree with you and then what's the point except to get validation of your own ideas?)

What do I call them? I call them people. People who got sucked into a situation I would imagine they would rather not be involved in. Most soldiers, in any country, don't join an army to go kill people. They are drafted, join for training, join to defend their country, etc. When the people in power decide to throw away these lives in whatever war THEY decide is appropriate, the soldiers are going. Maybe they agree, maybe not. But they go and lay their lives on the line.

If what I'm hearing is true, then this group of soldiers went way beyond orders and anything humanly acceptable. Considering the situation, though , I don't know if I would have behaved differently. I want to believe I would have, but I'm sitting in a comfortable chair with dinner cooking and nobody is trying to kill me.

I have never called any race or religious group animals , but I do see a difference between soldiers overreacting and killing innocents in the heat of battle and a freedom fighter cowardly placing bombs in such a way that innocents are killed. Placing a bomb is about as cold blooded as you can get and if you are unable to ensure that blast will not kill innocents, you
are no more than an animal.
