I s'pose I'll go along and post a new thread to introduce myself. I doubt anyone will really read this, I know I haven't read any of the ones posted here, but somehow I have the feeling that I'll be getting to know some of you very shortly as I begin to explore. Long winded, yeah? Sorry.

Um, *clears throat*, this kind of feels like I'm up on stage with a bunch of face-less people sitting in the audience. What am I to say about myself?

Well... I write. Fantasy. I've my own stuff, but my current long-term project has been a Harry Potter fan work. In other words: I'm writing my own version of the 6th book. Yeah, I know, sounds dorky. I'll prolly explain better in another post.

Um... if you're are interested in knowing more, I'm on MySpace. Me

Hello Weslyn, I suppose you will like our Literature section. I never read the Harry Potter books, as I didn't like the hype. However, I did enjoy some of Terry Brooks books. Although I have to say that I'm rather a fan of Tad Williams (Otherland and Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn), Weiss and Hickman(The Death Gate) and Frank Herbert (Dune).

Anyway, welcome to Frihost. Very Happy

Whoa. *jumped at the name Terry Brooks*

Either you've visted my account on MySpace or you just like good writers. Yeah, I ♥ Terry Brooks -namely the Shannara series. I've also read the Word & Void trilogy. I've actually had the honor of meeting him and speaking with him a bit... he gave a lecture at a convention I went to.

I never liked reading until I picked up one of his books -Sword of Shannara, actually. Since then I've kept reading, and then I started writing on my own. I think I've always liked writing actually... when I was nine I started writing my own novel, lol. Needless to say it wasn't very good.

I kind if swore I'd never read Harry Potter either... but then when I was in high school, during one of my art classes, the teacher had put on the books on tape. So really, I heard the first two books, and by then I was interested enough to read the 3rd and so on and so forth.

Anyway, that's partly why I'm here... I've got a website through Angelfire, (which I don't like), and I was hoping to make a new site that was a bit more ... better.[/list]

I did visit your account on MySpace (you linked to it).

About Terry Brooks, I read quite a few of the Shannara books (if not all), I did like them a lot. However, I missed a deeper meaning behind the (pretty nice) stories, I mean some philosophical questions/considerations.

That's also the reason why I never started with Harry Potter, it seems like yet another "the good vs. the bad" story. I like it when things get a bit more complicated.

I started writing a novel when i was like 12. Yea mine wasn't that good either. Still fun to write them. I don't really like reading them though. I just am not into reading that much. I read the first book of Harry potter. I was too young at the time so it was to hard to read. So i never did really keep reading them. I did watch the movies though. They are interesting.

Bondings if you like a bad vs. the good then you would like harry potter. They are really like that though.

The Potter books get better as Harry gets older, and no, I don't think it's a simple matter of bad vs. good -because as the characters grow older there's this whole aspect of humanity that comes into play. It starts around the 3rd book and get's right dark pretty quick by the 5th. I've had a slow start to reading the 6th book, so I can't really say anything about that one.

Anyway, you should give it a read... I'd personally start out with the first and second on tape or CD -I find them more entertaining that way -the narrator is fabulous. Tho' if you're just going to read the books, start out with the 3rd... see if you like the style, (the first and second are admittedly more childish).

Okay, okay... done with my persuasions. Ha ha.

I guess. I would rather just watch the movies though. Right now at least with school and everything it is just hetic. Got finals coming up and all. Then the summer i should have a job and won't have time then because when not doing that i am in my pool and stuff. So really i dont' have much time to read. If you can tell my posting has slowed down a lot. And next year i have these big books i have to read so i dont' know. Maybe some time in life. But most likely not now.

So I see I'm not the only one. I used to be very against all these fantasy books, and besides, "if the whole materialistic, celebrity-based, stupid United States loves these books, why should I?"
Then I decided to read it for one of my personal projects, and actually liked it. Well, I liked the translated one. I couldn't finish the first chapter in the English one.
