Lying

The Conspirator
Throughout history lying has been considered bad but at the same time, people lie all the time, they lie to them selves, there friend and especially too there children. Parents tell there children not to lie and punish them when they do but at the same time they lie to there children about Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. I understand lying to protect them but about fictional people and creators. Isn't that hypocritical?
And people put other in positions where they would rather lie. For instance a woman asks her husband "Dose this make me look fat?" Ho is he going to answer? The Truth "No, you fat make you look fat.", half truth "Yes" or a lie "No" or a balding man trying to hide it with a comb over asks his wife "dose this look good". Hos is she going to answer? A lie :Yes", a half truth "no" or the truth "You bald and combing remaining hairs over only makes you look ridiculous." She is going to say yes.
Is lying wrong? if so why do people lie so much? If not, why is it considered wrong?

Wanna censor that mate, just to be on the safe side?

But you have to understand that by nature (also called Original Sin) humans are essentially made to lie, cheat, etc. It's natural tendency, but I don't approve of it. I try my best not to lie - but it happens, and like you said, it happens to everyone.

But I have to ask you this: Since when does something "bad stop anyone from doing it?

Killing is "bad" - People Kill
Stealing is "bad" - People Steal
Drugs are "bad" - People use drugs
Cheating is "bad" - People cheat

Regardless of the number of people that do any of the above, the fact is, they do it. Just because it's bad won't stop anyone, myself included, from doing it.

But if you are truly sorry (and I'm not talking a fake sorry) for your lie, you can repent it to God (going for the religious side of this now).

Firstly: drugs are not bad, there inanimate objects. Excess is bad.

Secondly: The thing is, people don't kill, still or cheat casually, yet people lie casual and allot of time about trivial things. And most people feel guilty when they cheat , steel and especially kill, yet no one feels guilty when they lie unless its about something big, or big to them.

Most people consider p2p as trivial, and almost completely force themselves to forget that most of popular forms of it is "stealing".

When something has been reasoned very small, it's easier to negate with convienant reasoning.

You should have met my boyfriend. He is so honest that sometimes quite rude, and would never answer anyone like this. Once he said to me "You know, you look quite fat, but that's very good as I hate skinny girls". (I don't consider myself as a fat nor even well-built person, as my weight fits in the 'perfect' interval, and I never ask him questions like that, so I don't know how did he come up with such a idea. I tried to interpret this as a compliment Laughing ). But that is why, among other things, I love him Wink

Lying is wrong because it makes you unreliable for the other people. I remember my friend asked me for the millionth time this famous question "Do I look fat?" (she is 5 kilos underweight), and after my millionth reply that no way, she said "I know you say so only to make me feel better, and that you think I am horribly fat." (I don't know how is it possible that she still wants to be my friend Razz) If we keep lying to a person all the time, this may destroy our relationship with this person, as he/she would not believe us and rely on us anymore.

Not mentioning this kind of lies that will make harm to other people (ahh, these lovely gossips.. Evil or Very Mad ). I guess that every woman gossips from time to time, I try to fight with this habit as much as I can, but it's very hard to eliminate. I also catch myself on doing little changes in the stories I tell, to make them more interesting (the changes aren't harmful, they just are interesting. You would tell it is nothing wrong, but I know how weird and horrible could be the final version if a few people done only a little change).

The fact that most people lie does not change anything. We should fight this habit as well as laziness, nervousness and addictions. Gotta fight, men Laughing Twisted Evil

I think that there is no excuse to lie, for me there are no small or big lies a lie is a lie and that's it. As a parent I tried really hard to teach my daughter not to lie, but not liying doesn't mean necessarily that you have to be rude, there are diferent ways to say the things, you can tell the true and still say the things in a way that it doesn't offend the other person. At least that is what I try to do and so I teach my daughter.
