PacMan Tutorial

ccmolik
Hello all.
Pacman is ArchLinux (and some other distros?)'s package manager. Not the game.
This is a tutorial as to how to use pacman, assuming you've installed Arch.

To invoke pacman , you must become root. So

Code:
su -

OK. Now we are at a root prompt. First we must sync the package database from the Servers. This is similar, in apt-get for debian, as running apt-get update.
So, run
Code:
pacman -Sy

You may be wondering why we use the -S . We use this because we need to sync from the Server. Caught on to my bolding madness yet?

NOTE: Please make sure you are connected to the Internet before running any of these commands, other than su.

Now that we've synced our package database, we install packages.
To install a package (from theServers) type
Code:
pacman -S baz

where baz is your package name.

To update all packages (similar to apt-get dist-upgrade, and from the Server) type
Code:
pacman -Su

That's about it, folks. If you ever need help, reply to this thread, or type
Code:
man pacman

at a command line

Thanks,
Chris
