Hello there,
i'm in the process of buying my first climbing rope. And well, I thought, why not ask the chaps at FriHost?
Well, since climbing is becoming a people's sport, there are bound to be a few geckos around. Hopefully this thread won't turn into a heated discussion - just like the ones you get after someone says 'my linux distro is the best'..
So, since I hate going to the hall, and the Alps are 1 hour away, so the thing here is alpine sport climbing. Nothing extreme, though - I won't be going for half or double ropes yet. But the choice is still a problem - too much offer is a problem at times.
Here's my wish list:
Edelrid skyline 10.5 mm, 72 g/m, 38% mantle, 11 falls, 70 m - 130 euro
Edelrid discovery 10.3, 66 g/m, 40% mantle, 8 falls, 70 m - 90 euro
Then there's the Mammut ropes - but they tend to be expensive to the point I could buy the Edelrid top-range rope for less. As an example, take this:
Mammut galaxy 10 mm, 65 g/m, 37% mantle, 7 falls, 70 m, std impreg - 180 euro
Edelrid livewire 9.8 mm, 62 g/m, 34% mantle, 7 falls, 70 m, high impregnated - 160 euro
Well, the livewire is as good as it gets with edelrid - and using it for grade 6-7 climbs is a bit overkill..
Any comments?
