PHPBB: Massive Spambot problem

LostOverThere
Hello,
My forum has currently been getting lots and lots of spambots, i've tried blocked IP's, Email domains, everything.
Does anyone know of anything to stop Spambots from registering on my forum.

Thanks in advance,
-LostOverThere.

Does you forum have a visual confirmation during registration?
If so get one.

Also, by using a certain mod(i forgot which) from phpbb.com you can also ensure that visual confirmation is needed for unregistered people to post
LostOverThere
Yes, aswell as email activation. Smile
But, one thing they dont do is reply to PM's.

Maybe switch to admin activation then? Where you have to accept each and every user?

Hmmmmm, okay, thanks Bondings.

Is there any Modification that will make the forum more secure, anyone?

Well just keep it up to date.

Also, spam bots are not really hacking/exploiting the forums most of the time, just spamming.

But if the bot is able to read the visual confirmation, then you have a serious problem. Maybe you can try to make your own confirmation, like with an easy question, changing it every few days.

Or block their ips, if they always use the same.

Okay, thanks Bondings, i'll try that. Very Happy

You may want to think about Auto Delete Users from nivisec.com which allowed you delete membes who haven't posted in a while, this should get rid of spam bots in the long run.
Also, the Anti-bot Guest Post Mod http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=263469 by otseng which makes guest posts have to confim the post via dropdown menu.
CrackerTracker at http://www.cback.de - stops worms, has flooding protection, etc

there are a lot of mods there that can help

I would rather say, don't allow guests to post, or only in 1 forum.

I have the same problem, but only on Joomla-portal's comments and guestbook.

Guestbook component has "picture_word" protection, but spam-bots still flood it with spam (how can they read it?!).

Any ideas which can help?

(i was thinking about counting time between posting, or some other stuff, but currently dont have time to implement Sad )
