there is alink to the hardrive i want to buy and
i am using WDC WD600BB-75CAA0 i believe a seagate hardrive its atandard disck drive and it came with my dell 4550
will i be able to replace my old one with this one i would be appreciative of a quick response because it is on sale today.

From Google, I think the WDC WD600BB-75CAA0 is IDE. The drive you chose is SATA II. Your motherboard needs a SATA II connector to use the drive you want.

well unfortunately i've already placed an order for it so i am wondering now is there an adapter or will i also need a new mother board?
photon
if your motherboard only has ide and no sata, then there is nothing you can do about it. there are no adapters for that. the only way will be to get a new motherboard which has sata2 ports
psycosquirrel
Uh, no. http://sewelldirect.com/IDE-to-SerialATA-Converter.asp

They are EXPENSIVE. You should RMA the drive you just ordered or get a new motherboard.

No, you can get some, very cheap!Their only"problem"(with the cheap ones) is that they only support 1-2 drives, while the other, are for proffessional servers, supporting 8+Devices...If you search, you will find...

You are talking about SATA controller cards. They are another option, but are by no means very cheap. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2010150410+1193218488+1193512552&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=410 has some PCI cards that would work. Using one of them will also allow you to hook up additional drives.

Just get a SATA II RAID card and hook it up that way, With newegg you can always just return the drive and get most of you money back....

RAID card do take a little computer knowhow, so if you are a beginner, which you sound like, just return(RMA) your new drive and get an IDE drive..

Cheap fix(PCI):$15
