One though question. I'm not sure yet, but I think there's more than just one meaning. It's an entire quest of knowledge that ends up in realizing how one should live, IMO.
I think the most important thing is to see what's good and what's evil. To see how well the good things feel and how bad the evil feels. That's how I justify God allowing wars and everything: We have to learn, if war makes us feel bad, then stop it. If we just search revenge after being hurt, then we've learnt nothing and we are not doing what we should.
The purpose of life is a life of purpose.

that has some meaning right there!!
now according to the movie The HitchHiker's Guide To The Galaxy,
the answer to the ultimate questioin (the meaning of life, the purpose of existance, everything) = 42
but that's just a movie
[while on movies, another example is monty python's the meaning of life]
But more personally, I think the meaning of life is more along the lines of what S3nd K3ys said, life's purpose is LIVING, and living to the FULLEST!!
and by fullest, i don't mean stuff u can buy i mean friends and family and good times with them.
I was taught that the pourpose of life is to leave the world a little bit better than how you found it when you arrived. That is, putting your small grain of sand to the well-being of mankind. Weather you are a politician, a scientist or even an enterteiner, make sure you and your work improve the world at least a little bit. With that done...you may rest in peace.
i h ave come ot the comclusion:
The Meaning of Life:
be born, go through school and work to get a job, work you radult life ot get money, then die. Somewhere in there oyu have ot have sex so your kids can go through the same living hell that we did.
Perhaps it is a gift given to us. It is not something that has a specific meaning attached or with a specific requirement. Perhaps life is just a pure gift. Given without expectation.
If that is the case, perhaps then the meaning of life is just the living of it. Living life.

That would be my opinion, though with a different flair to it. I would not say life is gift. I can thank my parents for loving me, but not for conceiving me, for my concept is that life is simply a product of chance.
The universe was formed somehow, it is infinite, though not filled throughout with matter. It has always existed, and will always exist. Earth was formed by chance, and life appeared by chance. Humans, and our brains, came later, again a product of chance.
It is unfortunately an answer that suffers the same flaws as theological ones - it is very easy to make chance responsible for everything, just like it is to say God - one or many - gave us form and purpose.
As a side note, I'd like to add that I positively abhorred philosophy classes in highschool. At that time, if I were told I would indeed delve in this field, I would not have believed it.. well, some changes are for the best.

In my opinion, the meaning is the pursuit. The pursuit of what? What ever, it could be many things or one thing. It is peoples pursuits that gives there lives meaning and purpose.

Heh, you're such a pesimist... What the hell are you still doing here. In my opinion the aim of the life is to love. Or rather to learn to love. Not only your partner, but all the people you meet in your life (of course in different ways
). Only by giving yourself away you could become a better and a happier person. And create here on the Earth a little piece of Heaven.
If Life would have one purpose we wouldn't be talkng about all this right now. One's life will have various purposes and a lot of things to do, but finally being completely aware of one's self and hence knowing the real self would be what will quench one's thirst for life I think! Maybe I'm wrong, but this works for me.
There is no meaning to anything, only how it became to be
Life for me has the important meaning. I believe that I'm here at the moment because of some reason that I must have done before, that's why I am born and placed in this world. So now I need to realize myself as a whole, fix my mistakes on the past. I believe that when I am already wise enough, that's when the purpose of my life has been done.

I guess the human race gets an F- then...
I think the meaning of life is to live, yes.
but not necessarily with a purpose, unless thats what drives you.
I think the secret to happiness is to simply not let anything stop you from doing what makes you happy. all the semantics of money, politics, etc. just get in the way. do what you feel is right to do, and you will be happy.
If everyone would do whatever makes them "happy" we would live in a utilitarian society and have to deal with morals based on the most base.
This would be difficult for any society to accept.
Can we really equate meaning with happiness?
