Windows install from DOS network

steveadams617
Problem: old Sony Vaio with Windows ME and forgotten password and no external floppy or CD.

The unit has a network port. I remember somewhere that you can go into safemode and choose a dos prompt and then somehow get to a network with dos and use files on a network drive to re-install windows.

Anyone know how to do this?

Thanks
Donutey
an external floppy costs about $10 shipped on ebay, might be easier just to boot off of that...

You are right. I didn't need the password for ME.

lol, doh Razz and if you wanted to install them you could just connect it to another pc using LPT and copy the windoze files over it....

Connect using LPT? What is that?

Thanks
