Do you believe in Angels?

foodman
You know some people say God comes in unusual ways. I was skeptical of people claiming to meet "Angels in Disguise."

I now official believe. In fact, my life has honestly been changed by the past 10 minutes. Here's the story:

I was teaching the first graders at religion school as usual. They were awfully hyper today, but being in good spirits, and since they did get their work done, I decided to let them go ahead. In fact, I even let one kid who I always yell at play "security guard" for some reason. Anyhow, afterwards I had to go the store.

On my way in I was complaining about how grouchy people always are in there. When I was walking I noticed a lady staring fixated at me. Anyhow, after picking up what I needed, I was on my way out.

I got to the register and the one lady appeared to have parkinsons, or be slighty retarded. The other lady looked kinda retarded too. Anyhow, she was the nicest lady I've ever met in that store. So she saw swimming on my hoody and asked what I swim. I told her, and she went on to say her son swam the 1500, 13 whole laps, in under 6 minutes. Now, I think she meant the 500, which is 20 laps, but its ok.

Anyhow, as I walking out she said goodbye to me, by my name. Not just my last name, on my hoodie, but my full name. Even the long version of my first name that appears nowhere. Most of my friends dont even know it. Keep in mind I payed cash so I never showed any ID or credit card or anything.

How odd is that?
RiCtee
This sure is odd. But how do you know it was an angel?? It could be anything else.
Shike
Agreed, it could be a lot of things, though she, and probably so, had been "divinely inspired". She herself may not have been an angel but could have been inspired by one.

(disclaimer: I am not a christian and what you would believe as one god and angels, I believe as panthionic and your divinely inspired person, was inspired by a god/goddess)

I am no christian, but I do believe in angels. But there is a slight difference in my belief. For me, an angel is anything that helps others wihout seeking anything in return.
If the person you have encountered is an angel, then the angel will behave like it. A person who performs magic which doesnt provide anykind of goodness to others is not an angel.

While I am a Christian, your post made a lot of sense.

I do believe in angels, the heavenly kind that God sends down here to help us, and also the human kind that help others without wanting anything in return for their kindness.

“All God’s angels come to us disguised,—
Sorrow and sickness, poverty and death,
One after other lift their frowning masks,
And we behold the seraph’s face beneath,
All radiant with the glory and the calm
Of having looked upon the face of God...

your story reminds me of the people who GOD Almighty gives knowledge to. Those are the chosen people.

It was not an angel, because angels have wings, they are made from light not flesh, and are pure in soul.

May GOD bless you.

Yes, I believe in angels. Smile

They are always around, protecting us and looking out for us. Yes, they have wings.

Perhaps the lady at the store isn't an angel, but a person placed there by God to warm your heart. I always believe everything happens for a reason and we're all here on earth for a reason.

I'm glad you had that great experience. It's not everyday you get this sort of thing. Heh.

Yah, I believe in Angels. I think they help us out, and keep us out of trouble... That lady, anyway, in sceptic kind of way, could have just guesed. And after you hear her say your full name, you got very excited, so you got very creative and inspired. So you started thinking that she was an angel.
Well I don't think I'm a sceptic, but I don't think that the woman had to be an angel. The person could have been psychic or had known you from before. As said before, it could have been many things...

I'm not a Christian so I don't believe in angelsb but I do believe in spirit guides.
Can anyone tell me what an angel is?

You do not have to be Christian to believe in angels. Several religions, like Judiaism, Islam, Christianity, and i think also Sikhism, Zoastraism.

They are intangible, sentient entities, who, while being intelligent, have no free will of their own. Their purpose is to serve God and worship Him. Being made of light, they can assume almost any form, completely real to the human eye, and traverse a distance just as fast as light or faster.

(Humans are made from earth).

The Qur’an, the Muslim Holy Book, also speaks of angels as playing a crucial role in processes like creation, prophecy, spiritual life, death, resurrection, and the workings of natural elements. For instance, there is an angel who brings the thunder, and he, too, serves God and obeys His command. Other angels are in charge of embryos in wombs, or responsible for protecting human beings.

Angels are creatures made from life, that do many things that God orders, and worship Him.

So angels are beings created by God to serve and worship him? I find that really strange, but if it's part of someones religion, then it would make total sense to them.

I answer to the question is still the same. I don't believe in angels. I do however believe in beings who are higher up the evolutionary ladder than we are and who have chosen to help us.

Could there be angels? In some folks eyes there is, as many have stated, I like most in this thread beleave in a higher beinging, guess my problem with it all is I keep seeing words like serve, ordered by, and the like. To me it seems that to serve is like being enslaved too, I have my beleaves but being a slave to God or angels or any higher spirit is not very appealing to me.

woundedhealer had a good statement, which I am more inclined to agree with.

We were also created to worship God. Besides serving God, they do not really have any purpose except to guide the believers.

It all depends on how much you believe in evoultion. Evolution has been proven to be severly flawed in some errors and correct in others. Darwin made up his own skull with an orangutan jaw to trick lots of people.

You misunderstand. To be a slave is very honourable for Muslims. I can't explain it very well. You assume it to be connected to all the stuff and concepts from when america and england started the slave trade. Actually in religious terms to be a slave, is to surrender to someone and submit for good , and for higher purpose.

That's your religious belief. It's not something I could believe in.

When I speak of evolution here, I'm talking about beings in other realms, like my spirit guides or your angels.

I respect your opinion regarding enslavement, but it is not something I could agree with. My religious beliefs are very different to yours. I always thought that angels and spirit guides were similar, now I see they are very different, although they both guide people.

Yes, of course!

The universe is an incredible area of experience. When and How the Universe was created is not of concern here just that life happened. God or the Tao or the Great Creator whatever we want to refer to the life force that seems to know all the secrets and mysteries that the universe has to offer, is the One and All that Knows All Things. Amongst all the other life forms in the universe they all are trying to achieve a balance within thier environment that allows that life force to be master of its environment.
By tradition Humans are masters of the realm of the earthly plane, and angels are masters of the realm of the heavenly plane. again most traditions place the earthly plane on a lower existence than that of the heavenly plane. this placement in effect places angels in a higher plane of existence than humans and is why they are generally regarded as helping or guarding us; because they would like to see our progression into the heavenly plane.

Well i am a staunch atheist but i have reason to believe in "angels" too.

similar kind of situation as the first post.

i had just split up with my girlfriend to be with someone else, then decided i loved my (ex)girlfriend. We had just been to a gig together and were waiting in Waterloo station when this random gentleman came up to us.

He was black, about 6'3", dressed in the most absurd manner, a cowboy hat, wranglers and a dirty shirt. he comes up to us making small talk, talking about this and that, then suddenly turns to me, puts his hand on my shoulder and looks into my eyes

"You Hurt her" he says motioning to my girlfriend

Im like wtf , hoe does he know?

"look after her properly this time, ok?" he says to me, then stumbles off!

Then on the bus on the way from the station in bristol me a my (ex)girlfriend are cuddling and this old man tuns to us and says

"it must be nice to be in love, i cant remember how that feels, it was so long ago" in the wierdest manner possible, and i looked into his eyes and he seemed older than the world itself

"love is a gift, don't forget it" then got off the bus

Well sure, this is interesting. I'm not sure though. Maybe possible, I don't know. Can't really say. I'll have to investigate.

It is possible to mistake people who have special abilities for Angels. This could be the case with you, mgumn.

Right I did some good, very long research about these so called angels.
It appears that they do exist. Yes I know. Obviously where did I get the evidence you might ask. I could say I spoke to Jesus and He told me. But no unfortunately I did not speak to Him.
But I read some books where it clearly says that we all have guardian angels. They kind of help us finding our destiny. Not stop us from hurting ourselves or having accidents but simply finding our destiny even if it is breaking our arm.
Interesting.

i do believe in angels, however i am not sure if i have ever been in contact with one or not. so i am not completely sure there are but i do believe that people do and have come into contact wtih angels here on earth.
Soulfire
Of course I believe in angels, as a Christian, the concept of angels is quite prevalent throughout the faith.

The Bible has 280+ (I believe) verses that somehow mention an angel, which is pretty clear to say that they exist.
crimson_aria
Yes, I do believe in angels. I haven't seen one but there's something inside me that tells me that they are real.
atiwary
Yes!

I believe they are there in the astral realm (heavens)
This physical plane is surrounded by the astral realm
Angels are there coming into the physical realm...and influencing us.
How often they are influencing us...i have no idea but i believe they are there.

Just because people have wrtten books stating angels are real, doesn't make them so. They are writing about their personal beliefs.

I believe in other realms besides this one, so I believe that angels are a possibility. I personally have a spirit guide and an animal guide, ao i don't see why others can't have a guardian angel. It all comes down to personal belief.
dance4rain
What do you mean by angels?

If it means another human that serves others unreservedly like Mother Theressa and Mahatma Gandhi. Then they are true angels in the human form. In that case we can all strive to be an occassional angel - by caring and extending a helping hand when needed.

However if it has to be a divine being unperceivable to our physical faculties as humans, then it really depends on each individual. I personally believe that they do exist. I could claim that I have seen them, spoken to them, heard them - but then to others it would only be my truth (or bullshit). We should not only believe base on others' account of things but have an open mind to possibilities.

It is difficult to differentiate what is true or untrue. A delusional person believes to the core of his/her soul that he/she may be speaking to God. Who are we to say what is true and untrue. The person definitely believes it - if it is good for his/her soul then why not continue to believe it. If it is detrimental to his/her well being then better not believe even though it may be true.

I am a Catholic and part of my creed is the belief in angels. And although there have been times in my life -- especially when I was a teenager -- when I didn't think it mattered whether I believed or not, subsequent events in my life and in those I know have taught me that there are such things!

I found myself once in an unfamiliar place at night. I had just alighted from the bus and realized that I had done so in the wrong place. I was lost, hungry and I didn't have enough money for another bus ride. So I started walking all the while praying to my guardian angel as my teachers taught me years before. Then I heard this voice telling me to follow a certain car that was passing me by. So I did. The car was moving slow because of the traffic and so I followed it as it made a turn. Then I realized that the car has led me to a thoroughfare that I was familiar with! I finally found another bus to take me where I was going. Man, if not for that voice, I wouldn't have found my way out of that unfamiliar place.

This happened when I was about 16 or 17. There have been other cases like this, but to me that was enough to confirm in my mind the existence of angels.
