As you mentioned Dual Core Technology, i guess this thread is about Dual Core CPUs!? AMD is leader in this technology at the moment....but I was recently told there is no operating system out now which can use the full advantages of dual core technology.

For your purposes any CPU > 1,8 GHz will do a good job Wink

I strongly reccomend AMD Athlon 64. I have Ath 64 3000+. It`s v. good choicve for gaming and work and didn`t cost too much. In addition U can overclock it to 2,5 GHz Smile

get an Intel 820 Dual core, then overclock like crazy, that is, if you don't care about your electric bill that much. If you do, then go with a AMD X2 3800+.

AMD for a heavier-load balance (CPU intense programs)

Intel for general desktop applications

I generally prefer AMD over Intel when I am choosing a Linux or BSD system to place a server on.

and I generally place Intel in systems that will need smooth running applications that do not take much CPU-time.

The great AMD / Intel debate is available in full in this thread. Please look there for some more opinions.
