| Police in the Vancouver area have arrested three teens under age 15 who are suspected of a string of bank robberies in the Lower Mainland.
The teens, two 13 and the other 14, were arrested on Saturday. They are suspected of involvement in the robbery of two Vancouver banks, as well as a string of other bank robberies. "Within the last month and a half we're looking at seven robberies all over the Lower Mainland," said RCMP Cpl. Roger Morrow, "two in Surrey, three in Vancouver and two in Burnaby." Morrow says he has never seen such young boys involved in such brazen robberies. Usually, teens that age get into petty theft and minor assault, he says, while holding up a bank is a much more sophisticated - and gutsy - operation. "At our meeting this morning where this series of events came up, we [the RCMP] sat around the table and were speechless at having kids of this age involved in this type of crime." Morrow says the teens weren't previously known to police. All the youths are from Surrey. Only one is in custody, and the others are at home with their parents. The teens cannot be identified under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Police say no weapons were used in any of the robberies. |
