Google Downplays Microsoft Battle

At its annual Press Day Wednesday, Google introduced three new services while attempting to kill the popular story in the media that it is involved in a fierce winner-take-all battle with Microsoft. Instead, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that there would never be a single victor.

Schmidt said that having a single search engine would stagnate innovation. Competition, on the other hand, would support growth as well as advertising prices, and he added that there was room in the industry for more than one strategy.

One thing that I'm concerned about Google, though, is that it's expanding into everything and they may not be able to keep the same level of quality as they have now. There doesn't seem to be any coherent connection between the variety of services they're offering. I just hope they can keep of the level of quality, though.

There will always be competition with microsoft. When a company dominates a sector to the extent that microsoft dominates the technology sector then any new product released will be in direct or indirect cometition with a microsoft product or one of its subsiduarys.
This has been evident for a number fo years without any significant media attention, however now that a significant competetor has emerged there, all of a sudden, is a fierce battle. As the CEO of google said, there will never be an outright winner, however i belive it is because the two companys are at different ends of the market. Google's products are for the end user. Whereas microsoft products are for the advanced user and bussiness sector.

P.S. I, too, agree with euxapi, i belive that Google should consentrate on its strengths. Bear in mind it is still a relativly new company. And whilst its search engine may seem untouchable, there are always numerous companys continually striving to become the next Google inc.

google has a good thing going, but at the same time, having all of your revenue in one area (ie click through add kinda stuff) you're kinda gonna be screwed if that goes under for some reason.. their thinking is that they need to brace, cause the market is always fickle. Thats why google is branching off... its just trying to stay alive... I'm sure they will maintain their standard of quality they just have to evolve... its like Apple... they have always had quality but they were still falling behind untill they branced into the Ipod right?

The battle between google and microsoft is getting pretty big now,but microsoft is welcomeing the competetion because it shows that they dont have a monoply on everything like they once had.

That's true but if you have a look at the services brought by microsoft, google or Yahoo, the one who will distinguish from the other is the one who will always bring services that fulfil customer's requirements in the best way.

It's all good for competition. Very Happy
