Condensed Books

Is there anybody else here who passionately hates 'condensed' novels?
You know, the books that, in order to make a classic book more readable, have chopped out all the good parts and left naught but an empty shell of a novel. It's my opinion that these books give a bad reputation to all books, and that they should cease being published.

I don't really see what the problem is. No-one's forcing you to read them instead of the originals. I have a friend who's not into reading much, but he's read some condensed stuff. I suppose that is so he'll get a basic knowledge of what the book's about -- always useful, even though he's not particularly interested. Why does that make you so mad? Sure, people who read those are missing out on a lot, but they know that and it's not one of their top priorities I suppose.

Now that I think about it.. If there was a condensed Harry Potter, I might read that. I'm not a big fan of HP, but everyone's always bugging me to read it, even though I've already read thousands of pages and decided that it was a waste of time..
