why do I get a directory listing when I go to my site?

ammonkc
I'm setting up a LAMP server, with RedHat, Apache2.x, MySQL 5.0, and PHP 5. When I go to the site in my browser I get a directory listing. I have to type the address with the file name to get it to display properly (eg: www.mysite.com/index.php). I thought that I set up my httpd.conf file correctly, but maybe I missed something.
I have included the following inside of the httpd.conf file:
Code:

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.php index.htm
</IfModule>

......

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-source .phps

I thought that this would take care of this problem, but I still get the directory listing. what am I missing?
Thanks,
roeenoy
i think you need to tell it to your admin server
krazycapital
roeenoy, this is his OWN server, so they are the admin... Razz

Are you sure they are in the "root" of the web directory (for lots it's called public_html)?

I figured out what the problem was. I "short_open_tag" turned off in my php.ini. and I was using old style short tags in a few scripts (<? ?> and not <?php ?>). I just had to enable short tags or change them to <?php.
thanks
