Rebuilt site using php, google seems confused

I recently rebuilt my site using all php (ie. my index is index.php) Google has continued to visit my site on a daily basis using anywhere from >0 to 1MB, yet when I do a site:http://www.donutey.frihost.net search on google the number of pages has decreased and none of the new php pages show up.

I guess the thing that strikes me as odd is that most of these old .htm pages that used to show up in the site search still exist, and are still linked to, yet have disappeared from google.

Use mod_rewrite so that you can forward the users to your new pages form the old pages that are still in search engines.

i think i figured it out, I use google sitemaps, and evidently you have to add to the sitemap and go to google sitemaps and tell them that you've resubmitted it for them to look at again.

Sorry for naive question, but what is the Google site map? And how to use it?

SOFTplus GSiteCrawler is one among many, but seems to work very well.

google has been having problems, or at least redesigning how they index sites, and many pages that have been indexed don't show up with a site: search.

personally google has indexed 217 pages of my site, though some days only 23 show up with a site search. Most of those 217 pages no longer exist, on my site, despite daily indexing... and most of those are from an old phpnuke installation.
