That's why I do them BEFORE the race starts...

People like doing burnouts because they enjoy having to buy a new set of tires years in advance of their normal wear time. That's the answer I have.
sweet picture S3nd K3ys. And people enjoy it because it gets the audience cheering. I remember we did one before in my dads 1990 mustang 5.0 gt. and we got the whole crowd whiled up. We did the best burnout of all night. So really it is just to entertain people. A lot of people enjoy this stuff. And one of those people is me.

Thanks Blaster. But the burnouts I do racing are for traction. Notice the wheelie bar.
Theres a wheelie bar? I couldn't tell because of all the smoke.
And yes i know the burnout you did was for traction to get your tires warmed up. I have family members that race so i know.

it wreck tires and other bits, but it fun and people love them.
wow.. were they doing it on the public road? I mean, were they obstructing the traffic (I saw cars overtaking). I am not disagree but am just wondered why it lasted so long without interfering from the the police or traffic wardens. 
most people in a burn out context use cheap old tires on cheap rims since they are easy to smoke and burn.
It's just stupid fun. before i got new rims put on my car I went to a parking lot in the middle of the night with some friends and we did donuts and burnouts till the tires were almost bald. I could have blew them out, but I had to drive back home.

Nice burnout, but dont ever do em on public roads.

Just tonight I was watching the news, and there was a video of people doing burnouts in the street late one night, And they had poured some diesil(sp) on the road for lubrication, and a police car shot through it at about 80km/hr, slid and spun into a parked car.
