Page within a page...

Ok, I'm a very inexperienced web-designer, with very limited HTML experience...

I'm working on my site (link in my sig) and I have a couple of questions.

For the nav-bar, every time I add a page I don't want to have to go through all the other pages, adding it in. Is there a way to automatically update it? For instance, with Flash you just have to export a new .swf of the same name, and all pages displaying that file will automatically display the new one. Is there a way to do that with HTML?

Also, I'm planning on adding a Music page to the site. Ideally once the user has selected the song, it should begin streaming, and text should display explaining the story, and the methods behind it. Perhaps lyrics. That kind of thing. Ideally, I'm thinking of a drop-down menu or a list of links, but rather than opening a new page, they should load the track and the text within that page.

What would be the easiest/most effective way to do that?

(And before anyone points it out, the all copyright on the music is held by me, and I do have permission from Bondings. Smile )

OK...for your first question, you could do an IFRAME which points to a page with the navigation menu on it. That way, when you edit the page with the navigation menu, all the pages will change.

I'm do not know how to answer your second question because my javascript knowledge is very limited.

I've gotten round the second part in a simple but functional way... linking to the songs themselves all from one page, and in the same place linking to another page with all the descriptions and notes, etc.

Thusly. So far I've only written the notes for Phantasm, but still. Smile

Alright, the second problem's been beaten, but already the first is starting to get annoying. The site's only just begun, and I've got a lot more plans. But there are already eleven pages which display the Nav-bar, and if I add a section or something, I've got to update and re-upload every one. And the number pages is going to rise fast.

How can I get round this? How do you avoid this problem?

I suggest you use php includes. Refer to this topic started by me, I had the exact same question.

PHP includes are probably your best bet. And by the way, that's a nice font you're using for the title of your webpage!
