BC - AD

Mr Smith
Howdy there,

Okay, picture this:

1000BC = One Thousand years before the birth of christ.
-
1000AD = One Thousand years after death of christ.

Between these years, is a place called "0", where it was the middle.

Now:

1BC = One year before christ was born
-
1AD = One year after christ dies

The difference between the two, is two years... From the pictures of jesus... christ whatever, he looks a bit older than two years. How is this explained?

AD does not mean after the death of Christ. AD is an abbreviation from Anno Domini.

In either case, in archeology they are using a terrible notation of time - so and so years before today. So then, the Roman Empire ceased existing in 476 AD, or, to be politically correct, 1530 years before today, or 1529 years before today in a book published last year, or in year 1528 before today in a paper printed two years ago, et cetera. Perhaps BC stands for "Before death of Christ"
Mr Smith
I am pretty sure that BC means before christ...

AD does indeed stand for Anno Domini, which I understand is year of our lord, which I think was suppose to be the year he started ministry. I remember people talking about how our count is actually a few years off back in '99 and all the hubabulo about the new millenium.

Jesus was born in 0BC, and died in about 32AD, off the top of my head.

Where's the mystery?

BC = Before Christ
AD = Anno Domini (Year of our Lord)

1000BC = One Thousand years before the birth of christ.
-
1000AD = One Thousand years after the birth of christ.

The only real question I can see is whether it's right to say 0BC or 0AD... or whether they're both as correct as each other.

oh yeah subsonic, year he was born, not started ministry. My bad. The 0 question is excellent.
