having text placed in a text field

Saber
How are you able to input text to a field, as such like,[code] Name:<br /> <input type="text" name="loginname" value="$loginname"><br />[code][/code] I know that doesnt work, and I have tried putting <?php "blah" ?> in there, and such.. no idea.... any help?
kv
Code:

<input type="text" name="loginname" value="<? echo $loginname ?>">

Hope that helps
Saber
thanks kv, that was it.
Rhysige
To be properly coded you should put
Code:
<? echo $loginname; ?>

but thats more of choice rather than need.

Rhysige, <? is not a proper PHP tag.

You should always use <?php

Anyway, solved.
