Peru's Elections

The current elections in Peru are intense to say the least. The 3 head runners are (Humala) a leftist militant backed by Hugo Chavez with a questionable human rights recored who vows to empower the poor, (Flores) a conservitive who favors the rich and the united states, and (Garcia) an ex peruvian prez who ruined the econmy when he was last in office.
The first round of votes are 99% counted with Humala holding 30% of the vote, Garcia with 24%, and Flores with 23%. Sense no one won by 50% there will be a runoff vote between the top 2 held on May 28th. We'll see what happens. The development in South Americas is interesting to say the least. Chavez and the bolivarian model is gaining in popularity, ironically maybe mostly because of the agressiveness of US neo imperialism. Threats to the independence of countries in SA makes people gather around strong leaders that provides an alternative - even if their track record is not exactly spotless.

I predict that with the recent PR and good will achieved by Bolivia and Cuba, we will see communism/socialism revived in this region.

Despite the dubious human-rights aspect, Boivia is making progress in leaps and bound in health care, education and empowerment of the poorest. Which can not be said of the previous pentagon backed regimes.

Yeah, not to many people took hugo seoriously when they said they were going to create an "axis of good". But with cuba strongly anti-us, and bolivia nationalizing there natural resorces and now this race in peru, if Humala wins, would be antoher country with alot of US privitized natural resorces that takes steaps tworad nationalization. Not only is it another strong blow to the US but it might push other contries to do the same.

Here is something i just read today. http://www.guerrillanews.com/articles/2244/In_Filiberto_s_Wake_a_Free_Puerto_Rico. It seams as though ever sense the FBI killed Puerto Rican independence activist Filiberto Ojeda Rios, the movement has been gaining motion. Puerto Rico could try to go the way of Venezuela, and that would be a huge blow to the US because Puerto Rico is a US territory and not just a place where they own all the resource rights.
