Hi everyone,
We can use this topic as your questions for mambo, joomla. I can do my best
to help you with basic stuff like installation, adding removing components and so..
Tolga
Well yeah, i am new to joomla and mambo, i have installed mambo. And now i want to install joomla, but what pack do i need to install ?
And is it hard to design your own templates for joomla ?
tx already
Why do you want to install two cms for the same hosting?
Hi Bengt,
After Miro commercialized Mambo, developers stop coding applications for mambo. Now Joomla is much more effective and common wide. I do recommend you to choose Joomy from now on..
The installation process is much similar with mambo. Just download latest package from www.joomla.org (official site) and follow the same way as mambo.
Design? I will give you some free templates site so you can download and try yourself.

One other thing: you can work in Joomla Templates without internet. To use your computer as Joomla server just download this standalone server:

Tolga
Hi, I have installed joomla, but I am unable to add these components with 1 login: Forum, Articles, Image Gallery, Polls, Picture Rating and Blog.
Will u help
Forum.. www.simplemachines.org
Forum integration: www.joomlahacks.com
for image gallery you can use both pony gallery and zoom gallery.. here are the links www.mamboy.com (pony) well I couldn't remember zoom's site so ask google about it:)
Joomla has a standart polls section which is included with installation( Are you sure you have installed Joomla?? or Are you trying to catch my mistake or knowledge??
For picture rating : after installing pony gallery you can use settings to Picture Rating System,
For blogs: Try e-writing module for your blogs..
For articles: Use joomla's category system. Add a category and add content under that category. Don't forget to publish it!!

Joomla rocks...
I think joomla is a bit heavy to be used on frihost. My site which has joomla installed runs very slow on frihost. Although it is an empty site with no data and only Joomla.
Yoiu can compare Joomla's performance with that of PhpWebsite CMS on my site:
http://desipeople.frih.net/ contains joomla.
http://desipeople.frih.net/desiportal1/ has PhpWebsite.
I can see slight difference in loading times of joomla and PhpWebsite in favor of PhpWebsite.
I have installed both for testing only, soon I will remove one of the CMS.

So what should i try??Phpwebsite, or phpnuke??Or they are the same
I think, PHP-NUke and Joomla are at the same level. PHPwebsite is a lighter CMS and so is mkPortal and other low-profile CMSs.
If u want to host on a free server then I would recommend u PhpWebsite and
mkPortal, there is another one like them i.e. PHPwebthings.
and if u are hosting on a good paid server, then Joomla and PHP-Nuke have no effect on performance.
Please tell me what difference did u see between Joomla and PhpWebsite hosted on my site. Their links are posted above. Thanks.

I saw that phpwebsite was faster than joomla as u said.
Maybe i like a little more the design of joomla, but i will use another theme. Do u know any page with themes for joomla??
Im talking about hosting my website here, on frihost, cause its free and enough for me.
So i will need then joomla, a good theme,(i can later edit that theme the way i want???), a forum(which forum download for joomla), and thats it i think.
Thanks
Hi all,
I know that joomla may differ about performance, but with joomla you can do much more than php , and it is much more versatile than php portal systems. After Loading glory of data into your website all systems may slow down a bit - thats what we should not forget when deciding between portals.
You can see list of themes in my second message up this page. Personally I do recommend Joomlaos.de which is up to date more than other.
By the way , I am satisfied with the speed of joomla. As you can see in my page(which is under construction=) www.tolgaozbek.frih.net
For forums use Smf forum which has integration module with joomla 1.0.8 and works great on many sites.
you can find www.simplemachines.org(main site)
and joomla integration : www.joomlahacks.com (integration module site)
Have a nice day,
Tolga
Thanks man, when i have my account of frihost, i will try to install joomla and smf forum too, and i have problems, i will ask u here
I think this post should be a post-it, with answers enabled
No problem oskuro;) I will be here for your possible problems:)
As they say: Joomla Rocks..

I just want to get my frihost host, and then install joomla!
Im still waiting, hasnt been handlet yet
Also i found here a installation tutorial for joomla!:
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-32343.html
Well, finally have my hosting , so i downloaded last joomla version, which i saw it´s ALPHA(hope it doesnt have many bugs¿?¿).
well, i will upload everything to my ftp when i read instructions, i will post later if everything goes ok
EDIT: Im going to install better last stable version, dont wanna risk with the alpha new one
EDIT2:
But where do i have to uplod those files??
I enter my ftp in frihost, and i find just entering these folders:
domains
imap
mail
public_html
.bash_logout
.bash_profile
.bashrc
.shadow
Do i have to upload it to...:
/domains/MYSITE/public_html/
folder???Thx
EDIT3:
Well, i will try tomorrow...i cant install joomla.
I tried, but i cant, i cant either execute the install.php so... dont know and i gave everything permissions but nothing

Tolga | Hello everyone,
I am hosting a website with Joomla! installed on it, ever since I got my new custom template nobody's been able to register, I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do to fix this. My site is http://www.the-yeah-gang.com.
How can i install modules or componentS??I want to add a module calendar, upload module by ftp to module folder in my joomla web.... but dont know how to activate it...
I install fine components, but modules dont know how and need both parts to install that calendar
EDIT: Ok, now it´s installed, got it
Hi there,
I have tried to register an acccount and I couldn't see any activation mail in my mailbox. Have a checked general settings? From members' settings you should find which registration module to use such as "use activation or not" . I think you should not use activation module which sometimes acts as a deterrant factor for a new user. After 5000 users you could consider using it;)
IF you still want to register people by activating their accounts, try to use other login modules for registration. U could try xlogin (for hidden login form for example) or smf forum's login form itself.. just look up for the word "LOGIN MODULE" in search button in extensions.joomla.org
Have a nice day..

How to edit all MAIN MENU items and USER MENU items???To order them, rename then and so on??Dont know how to do it
If you want to copy menu item just copy the main menu module from module list.
to be continued in more convinient time..
If you want to change the order just use the numbers to the left of the module to your heart's content and make sure to save them using the floppy disk shaped icon;)
I have a joomla's based site hosted here at frihost, and I don't know what could be the reason but it seems to "weight" almost 200 Mb.
I have the same installed locally on my computer, and it's only 60Mb.
Do you have the same problem?
hi zorindart,
how did you manage to fill up 200mb? no matter what you do just follow these steps
first of all make sure that your database is the most efficient and least size that it could be..
So use phpmyadmin to check it.. Sometimes some add on modules and comp.s like galleries and calendars make it unstable and useless after a time.
in frihost there other directories other then public_html.. if you use mail function of the hosting service, make sure you don't keep big files in it because they will user your space also.
by the way even 60 mb is big for a web site. joomla is max 10 mb if installed crude(first installation)..
any other questions;)
I think php-nuke still more useful to use
I do respect to your opinion but you have to admit that Joomla is much more flexible and has a wider range of use. For example look at this site:
www.clexus.com
What differs between Phpnuke and joomla is most of phpnuke sites looks similar. left and right block and main area for main block. Well, yes.. Joomla is installed just like that but it depends on your ability and knowledge to integrate with other things..
Joomla Rocks..
how do install joomla? i downloaded a zip-file and it is full of all sorts of stuff (ie dll's etc) but i cant find an exe file. help me please!!!
Don't you worry pal. It's not so complicated;)
http://www.joomlaportal.fi/tutorial/eng/joomla10/installationguide/
Just check out this link and follow all the steps. Then you should be able to use joomla.
Cheers
Tolga
it says i need
php 4.2x +
MySql 3.23 +
Apache 3.13.19 +
does frihost have that
EDIT: Even if frihost has it, i have to get the webspace b4 installing it. it seems like an awful lot of trouble for something that might not be worth it!
Frihost certainly supports joomla prerequisets..
My site with joomla is not ready yet. but I don't have much time to correct flash or other things. But for your information you can see the results.
www.tolgaozbek.frih.net
It's working great on frihost's hosts:)
I know that it seems rather complicated to install sth but once you have done that you will that worths it! Trust me..

Hi,
I was wondering if Joomla could be used for something like a PS3 site? I was planning on using a CMS but customizing it to my liking and so I was wondering would it be a good idea to use joomla for something like that?
I plan to post news and games reviews and some other stuff like acesories and so on! I have so far tried e107 CMS and Nuke-evo CMS!
Hi there.
With Joomla there is much oppurtunity to built a well developt(have I spelled it correctly:) site.
Take a look at these site:
www.zuperoyun.com
this site is about online flash games and so. and take a look at this too
www.emu-tr.com
And you could add review module which is named akobook review. if you can't find it I will post in here;)
